Disciple of Prayer
Hi everyone.
For those that have been praying for me in my last two posts, I wanted to write thank you. I’ve been feeling the power of an army of people praying for me, the Lord has been with me and I’ve been feeling His comfort. I apologize to ask again, but I’m finding myself in another situation that I’m feeling a lot of emotion and confusion around.
For context, I have been struggling to find a permanent job in my field in the last ### years. Writing it feels probably as unbelievable as it does reading it. I used to laugh because my entire childhood I was in and out of the hospital struggling with the one thing most people can do - breath. And in my ###s and ###s, I have my health, but I’m struggling to find the one thing most find after two degrees - a career. Despite my struggles and this prayer request, the amount of pruning God has done in my life has taught me to be thankful for them.
The reason for my prayer request: a month ago, I received a job interview that I was sure was the end of this chapter in my life. Long story short, I was not the selected candidate (for the hundredth time). I found myself burnt out mentally and spiritually. A couple days ago… I felt the Lord speak to me. I was in a moment of panic, dread, and fear, and I heard the Lord tell me to email ### managers who are part of departments I’ve applied to for the last ### years. In a moment of desperation, I wrote these managers simply asking for career advice on what skills I could work on to become a stronger candidate. I wrote expecting what I’ve received in the past when I’ve emailed managers: no response. Well, did the Lord have another plan. That evening, I get an email back from one of the managers. It said: “Hi. Thank you for your email. Would you be interested in an interview to see if your skills are a fit for our team?” I’m thinking to myself - how blessed I am! An exploratory interview where someone might be willing to hear about my background and recommend some things I could do. But the Lord surprised me again. The next day, I get a call from the managers assistant asking to schedule me in for an interview for an actual position… and not just any job… it’s THE job I’ve dreamt of for the last ### years. Wow, right?
Prayer Request: I feel grateful… but overwhelmed. My mind is stuck between thinking faithfully and painting a picture of the “for sure” not so good outcome. I’m fearful of excitement after this much disappointment. I have been asking God to keep me grounded, that this does not mean I will get this job. I fear if I let the hope sink in, when I get a call that tells me I’m not the selected candidate, I won’t get back up again. In some ways, I’ve convinced myself that’s what this is… the Lord is allowing this situation to let the enemy test me again. You know the saying, “it’s too good to be true”? I am desperate for prayers for a quiet mind. One that isn’t concerned with what might happen, but rather focused on what is. I know my identity is not in my struggles and what the outcome is, and I don’t want to find myself attaching significance to this job interview. I want to be thankful for the opportunity without expecting anything in return. So, I please ask for prayers for courage to keep going, for protection from the enemy, for peace and confidence in who I am in God, and for strength to withstand the outcome… whatever it might be.
Thank you for reading my message and for taking the time out of your day to pray for me.
