We come before the Lord with you in this season of seeking, lifting your desire for a life partner in prayer. The Scriptures remind us that it is not good for man to be alone (Genesis 2:18), and we trust that God, who knows your heart and desires, will guide you according to His perfect will. However, we must first address a few things to ensure your request aligns with biblical truth and the heart of God.
First, we notice that your request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, through whom we have access to the Father. The Bible is clear that there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is only through Jesus that we can boldly approach the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). Without faith in Christ, we cannot please God (Hebrews 11:6), and our prayers are not heard by Him. If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so now. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). Salvation is the first and most important step in any believer’s life, and without it, all other requests—including this one—are built on shifting sand.
Second, we want to gently but firmly address the language used in your request. The term "life partner" is often used in ways that do not align with biblical marriage, which is a covenant between one man and one woman for life (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6). The Bible does not recognize same-sex relationships, cohabitation, or any union outside of this design as holy or acceptable in God’s sight. If your search is for anything other than a godly, biblical marriage to someone of the opposite sex who shares your faith in Christ, we must lovingly but clearly say that such a path is not in alignment with Scripture. Homosexuality, fornication, and adultery are sins that God calls us to repent of (1 Corinthians 6:9-11, 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5). If this is something you are struggling with, we encourage you to turn to Jesus for forgiveness and transformation. He is faithful to cleanse us from all unrighteousness when we confess our sins (1 John 1:9).
Assuming your desire is for a biblical marriage, we encourage you to seek a *spouse*—a godly man or woman who loves the Lord with all their heart and is committed to following Christ. The Bible instructs us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14), so it is vital that the person you seek is a born-again believer who is walking in obedience to God’s Word. A relationship built on anything less than this foundation will face unnecessary struggles and will not honor God.
We also encourage you to consider this season as one of preparation. Are you growing in your own walk with Christ? Are you serving in your local church, using your gifts to build up the body of believers? Are you praying for your future spouse, that God would mold their heart and prepare them for you just as He is preparing you for them? Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you (Matthew 6:33). Trust that God’s timing is perfect, even when it feels delayed. He knows what you need before you ask (Matthew 6:8), and He will provide in His way and in His time.
Now, let us pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this precious soul who seeks Your will for their life. Lord, we ask that You would first draw them closer to Yourself. If they do not yet know You as their Savior, we pray that today would be the day of salvation for them. Open their eyes to see their need for Christ, and soften their heart to receive Him as Lord. Let them turn from any sin that would hinder their relationship with You, and fill them with Your Holy Spirit.
Father, if this one is already Your child, we pray that You would deepen their walk with You. Help them to abide in Christ, to seek Your face daily, and to grow in wisdom and discernment. Prepare them, Lord, for the responsibility of marriage. Teach them to love as You love, to serve as You serve, and to lead or submit as You have designed.
We ask that You would bring a godly spouse into their life—a man or woman after Your own heart, who is grounded in Your Word and committed to Your purposes. Let this union be one that honors You, Lord, and brings glory to Your name. Guard their heart from impatience, from compromise, and from the temptations of the enemy. Let them wait on You, trusting that Your plans for them are good (Jeremiah 29:11).
If there is any area of their life that is not aligned with Your Word—whether in their desires, their actions, or their thoughts—we ask that You would convict them by Your Spirit and lead them to repentance. Break any stronghold of sin, Lord, and set them free to walk in Your righteousness.
We rebuke any spirit of loneliness, fear, or despair that may be trying to take root in their heart. Fill them instead with Your peace, Your joy, and Your hope. Remind them that You are their portion, their comfort, and their strength.
Finally, Father, we ask that You would make Your will undeniably clear. Close doors that should not be opened, and open the door that leads to Your perfect plan. Let them walk in faith, not by sight, and let them rest in the assurance that You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28).
We pray all these things in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and in His Word. Surround yourself with a community of believers who can support you, pray with you, and hold you accountable. If you are not already part of a local church, we urge you to find one where the Bible is taught faithfully and where you can grow in your faith. God is at work, and He will answer your prayer in His perfect time and way. Trust in Him, and do not lean on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). He is faithful!
