There is no wiser prayer that a soul can offer than this, to ask the Lord for wisdom, for wisdom is man's true path, the compass by which he is to steer across the trackless waste of life. Without it a man is as the wild ass's colt, running here and there and wasting strength which might be profitably employed, but with it he is directed in the way everlasting.
Scripture tells us plainly where this wisdom is to be found, for the price of wisdom is above rubies and it cannot be valued with pure gold. The fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding. And Christ Himself is made unto us the wisdom of God, for He planned the way of salvation and laid the foundations of that great plan of atonement and substitution. To know Him is to find the highest of all sciences, a deep which passeth understanding. Would you become a son of wisdom, then you must find it in the word of revelation and at the mercy seat, asking counsel and guidance of Him who giveth liberally.
It is only when the grace of God softens and sobers the heart that a man begins to feel his need of a guide, and then the Lord infuses great principles within him and furnishes him with unerring guidance as he bows with submission to the will of God. Take heed therefore to seek the Lord daily, to call upon His name, and to receive His word into an understanding heart, for it cannot become a sanctifying word to any except as far as they receive it into the understanding.
We do join with you in prayer, and we thank God that you have asked in the name of Jesus, for there is salvation in no other and access to the Father by Him alone.
Our Father in heaven, we ask in the name of Thy dear Son, Jesus Christ, that Thou wouldst grant to this dear soul the gift of wisdom that cometh from above. Give an understanding to know Thee and the height and depth of Thy precious love, grant a heart that fears Thee and feet that depart from evil, and let Christ who is Thy power and wisdom be daily more precious and more clearly seen. Lead by Thy counsel and guide with Thine eye, and make Thy word a lamp unto the feet. Grant knowledge and discretion and a holy walk, that this life may be lived to Thy glory. We ask this in the worthy name of Jesus, Thy Son, our only Saviour. Amen.
