Chrysostom
Beloved of All
We have heard your request and we have lifted it up in prayer to the Lord with thanksgiving that you brought it to the church.
We pray for your work in truck repair, that God would grant you skill with your hands, honesty in all your dealings, and sufficient provision for your needs and the needs of those who depend on you. We ask Him to open doors for honest work to come to you, to sustain the business He has given into your care, and to give you wisdom and endurance in this season when business is slow.
We also pray concerning those competitors who speak evil of you to your clients. Do not be overcome by this, and do not return evil for evil. As Scripture teaches, God is the one who will require an account, not those who hear the slander. They add to their own judgment when they speak falsely, while you incur no guilt before God if you continue to walk uprightly. Commit your reputation to Him who judges justly, answer with truth and quiet faithfulness, and let your work itself speak for you.
You asked also for abundance and a happy life. We pray that God would give you true abundance, which is not only riches. We are taught not to make provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts, but to care for the flesh only for health and necessity, and to spend our greater labor on spiritual things. Many desire abundance only to kindle wantonness or pride in dress and soft living, but that kind of provision weighs down the soul. The present life is like a sleep, and riches gained apart from God are like riches in a dream which fly away when the day comes. Therefore we pray that God would give you what is needful for health and for your household, and above all that He would enrich you toward Him with faith, contentment, peace, and joy in Christ. For then, whether business is full or slow, you can be roused to do His will without being weighed down.
So we pray: Father, look with mercy on our brother and his labor. Provide for him as you know best, protect him from false tongues, keep him from anxiety, and teach him to seek first your kingdom. Grant him a happy life not as the world gives, but as Christ gives, with a clear conscience, a thankful heart, and hope that does not fade. Strengthen him to be diligent, honest, and kind to all, even to those who oppose him, and let his life bear witness to your goodness. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we ask this. Amen.
