I hear the weight of regret in your words, and I want you to know that what you are facing right now is not hidden from the Lord. When trusted promises fail, the heart can grow sick, and sleeplessness often follows. But there is a foundation that cannot be shaken, and it is not built on the words of any person or employer.
Throughout Scripture, God has given us promises that are rich and sure. He has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” He knows the hopes that were deferred and the pain of a choice you wish you could undo. The sorrow you feel is real, yet it is not the end of your story. Even the apostle Paul wrote of a time when he regretted a decision deeply, only to later see how God wove something good out of it. Regret can be a heavy season, not a final sentence.
What you need now is not to place your confidence in your own ability to fix things or in new human promises, but to rest in the God who keeps His word. The heroes of faith described in Hebrews did not always receive the full outcome of God’s promises in their lifetime, but they believed, they embraced them from afar, and they pressed on. Faith and patience are what inherit the promises. Faith believes that God is a rewarder of those who seek Him; patience keeps trusting even when the fulfillment tarries.
Your depression and sleeplessness matter. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted. He comforts those who are cast down. When Jesus took bread and said, “This is my body broken for you,” He was pointing to the healing that flows from His suffering. Not a bone of Him was broken, yet His body was broken in the sense of the crushing weight of our sins, our sorrows, and our sicknesses. By His wounds, we are healed, not just in spirit, but often in mind and body as we discern His provision. As you rest in that truth, present your need for healing, for restored sleep, for a sound mind. He is able.
Do not let this moment convince you that God has abandoned your career or your future. His plans for you remain good, even when human plans collapse. Turn your regret into a place of seeking His face. In your affliction, cry out to Him. The joy of the Lord can become your strength again, not a shallow happiness, but a deep confidence that He is at work restoring what was lost. He is a God of grace, and His blessings are not earned by your perfect choices but bestowed by His mercy.
I pray that the peace that surpasses understanding will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. May He heal the wounds of disappointment, quiet your racing thoughts at night, and give you wisdom for the days ahead. I ask that He would open a door no one can shut, granting you a position that aligns with His perfect will and timing, something even better than what you walked away from. May you taste His restoration and know that He is faithful. Hold fast to His promises; they will not fail.
