Beloved of All
Your honest cry has been heard, and we have brought you and your family before the Lord in prayer in the name of Jesus. Thank you for sharing so openly about the crushing weight you are carrying, the financial debts and unexpected pressures, the quarrels that have stolen peace at home, the academic work that has been stuck for three years, and the exhaustion of mind and body that leaves you with little energy for anything. When you wrote that you have at times wished you had never been born and that you do not know how to live, and that you feel alone with only Jesus as your hope, it shows how deep the despair has become. The Lord understands that depth.
Scripture describes that place very honestly. One prophet said, I am the man who has seen affliction, and he spoke of being in darkness with no way out, saying my strength and my hope have perished. That hopelessness is what lies behind depression, the feeling that there is nothing I can do and no way forward. You are not alone in feeling that, and God does not turn away from those who feel it. His Word also shows a sudden change in the midst of that darkness. In the depths, the prophet said, this I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. He deliberately turned his thoughts away from his misery and set his mind on the Lord, on His mercies that are new every morning and His great faithfulness. We can think ourselves into despair by looking only at our condition, but by renewing our minds on who God is, hope can return. That does not mean rejoicing in painful circumstances, but rejoicing in the Lord who is present in them and who looks down from heaven to see and to help.
Part of your struggle is trying in your own strength to hold everything together and finding that your strength is not enough. Another part of Scripture speaks to that same point, when the apostle cried, O wretched man that I am, who will deliver me. At first he tried to deliver himself, and only sank deeper. When he came to total despair of his own efforts and asked who will deliver me, he found the answer is Jesus Christ and the work of the Spirit who brings victory where we cannot. God sometimes allows us to come to the end of ourselves not to shame us, but so we will stop trusting in our own ability and rest entirely on Him, and so the deliverance gives glory to Him alone. Your weakness and low energy are not a surprise to Him. He does not measure your worth by how much you can produce.
Fear and despair also have a way of magnifying everything and making us see only half the story, only what is in front of us. When we do that we may lash out at those closest to us, and quarrels grow, and the situation feels even larger than it is. If we could see the whole story as God sees it, including what He is doing that we cannot yet see, we would understand that He has not finished. He is still writing, and He asks us to trust Him to complete what He has begun.
Your financial burden is real, and God cares about it. The Bible speaks openly about debt and poverty, and even about a time when those who could not pay a debt could be redeemed by a kinsman, a family redeemer who would pay the price for them. Jesus is that Redeemer for us. He knew what it was to be poor, to be born without a home of His own and to have no coin of His own to show. He came to pay the debt of sin that we could never pay, to free us from slavery to sin and to bring us into the family of God. That same Lord who paid the greatest debt sees the debts that weigh on you now. He does not promise that every pressure will vanish at once, but He does promise to be your provider, your wisdom, and your peace as you cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you.
We are praying for you specifically, that God will lift the heaviness from your mind and renew your hope as you set your thoughts on His mercy and faithfulness each day, that He will guard you from thoughts of wishing you had not been born and remind you that your life is precious to Him and He has purpose for you, that He will bring peace into your family and soften quarrels with patience and forgiveness, that He will give you wisdom for every financial decision, for honest work, for counsel, and for steps to address debts with integrity, and that He will give you strength for your studies, even in small, faithful steps, as you do what little you can with the energy you have and trust Him for the rest. We pray that you will not remain isolated, but will stay close to Jesus, your only sure hope, and to trusted believers who can walk with you, and that you will see in time how God was working for your good through this painful season.
