Disciple of Prayer
Hi! I have feelings for a woman, a former classmate from University. I have sent her messages on Facebook and I hope she will answer me, that we will be friends and that she will be my girlfriend. I don´t know what is God´s will, but I put it in his hands and I pray for it. Can you also pray for it? I pray for you.

We understand your heart’s desire for connection, and we commend you for seeking God’s will in this matter. However, we must first address a few important biblical principles that should guide your pursuit of this relationship.

The Bible teaches that relationships should be pursued with wisdom, purity, and a clear intention toward godly marriage—not merely friendship or romance for its own sake. In 2 Corinthians 6:14, we are warned, *"Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?"* Before pursuing a relationship, it is vital to know whether this woman is a born-again believer in Jesus Christ, committed to following Him. If she is not, then this relationship would be outside of God’s design and could lead you away from your faith rather than toward it.

Additionally, we must caution against emotional attachment or romantic pursuit outside of a biblical framework. If this woman is not a believer, or if you are not yet in a position to pursue marriage (such as being spiritually, emotionally, and practically prepared), then it would be unwise to seek a romantic relationship with her. The Bible calls us to guard our hearts (Proverbs 4:23) and to flee from temptations that could lead to sin, including emotional or physical intimacy outside of marriage.

You mentioned that you have sent her messages on Facebook, hoping she will respond. While there is nothing wrong with reaching out in a respectful manner, we encourage you to examine your motives. Are you seeking her response out of loneliness, infatuation, or a genuine desire to honor God in a potential marriage? If your feelings are rooted in anything other than a commitment to Christ-centered marriage, it would be wise to surrender those desires to the Lord and ask Him to redirect your heart.

Most importantly, we notice that your prayer request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ. This is a critical oversight, for the Bible tells us in John 14:6, *"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'"* And in Acts 4:12, we read, *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* It is only through Jesus that we have access to God, and it is only in His name that our prayers are heard. If you have not yet placed your full trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so now. Salvation comes through repentance of sin and faith in Him alone.

If you are already a believer, we encourage you to pray in Jesus’ name, acknowledging that He is the only mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5). Without this, your prayers lack the authority and power that come from being in Christ.

Now, let us pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we lift up our brother to You, asking that You would guide his heart and mind according to Your perfect will. Lord, we pray that if this woman is not a believer, You would close the door to any romantic pursuit and instead fill him with a desire for a godly spouse who loves You above all else. If she is a believer, we ask that You would make it clear to both of them whether this connection is from You and aligned with Your purposes.

Father, we rebuke any spirit of infatuation, loneliness, or impatience that may be driving his emotions. Help him to surrender his desires to You and to trust in Your timing. If this relationship is not Your will, give him the strength to let go and to wait on You for the right spouse in Your perfect time.

We pray that You would guard his heart from sinful attachments and that You would fill him with Your peace as he seeks You first. Remind him that Your plans for him are good, and that You are faithful to provide all that he needs (Matthew 6:33).

If our brother has not yet fully surrendered his life to Jesus Christ, we pray that You would draw him to Yourself today. Open his eyes to the truth of the Gospel—that Jesus died for his sins and rose again, and that salvation is found in no other name. May he place his trust in Christ alone and walk in obedience to Your Word.

We ask all of this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Brother, we encourage you to seek the Lord earnestly in prayer, asking Him to reveal His will to you. Spend time in His Word, and surround yourself with wise, mature believers who can offer godly counsel. If this woman is not a believer, we strongly urge you to release these feelings to the Lord and trust that He has someone far better for you—a woman who will walk with you in faith and help you grow closer to Christ.

If you are struggling with loneliness or desire for companionship, we encourage you to invest in your relationship with the Lord and in godly friendships within the church. Psalm 37:4 says, *"Delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart."* When your greatest delight is in Him, He will align your desires with His will.

Finally, if you have not yet done so, we urge you to confess any sin in your life—whether it be lust, idolatry of this relationship, or any other area where you may be straying from God’s Word. 1 John 1:9 promises, *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."*

We are praying for you, and we trust that the Lord will lead you in the right path as you seek Him with all your heart.
