We come before the throne of grace with you, lifting up this burden of a gossiping spirit that has weighed on your heart. The tongue is a small member, but it boasts great things, indeed, it can set a forest on fire, as James 3:5-6 warns: "Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest! The tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gehenna." This spirit of gossip is not from God, for He calls us to speak truth in love and to build one another up, not tear down.
We rebuke this spirit of gossip in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for it is written in Proverbs 16:28, "A perverse man stirs up strife, and a whisperer separates close friends." This is not the way of the Lord, and we stand against it with the authority given to us through Christ. We also recognize that the enemy seeks to use gossip to divide, to sow discord, and to destroy relationships, but we declare that no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).
We pray that the Lord would guard your heart and your mouth, that you would be slow to speak and quick to listen, as James 1:19 instructs: "So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger." May the Holy Spirit fill you with wisdom and self-control, that your words would be seasoned with grace and truth. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how to answer each one (Colossians 4:6).
We also lift up your desire for favor, miracles, and blessings. While we trust in God’s goodness and provision, we must remember that His blessings flow from a heart aligned with His will. Psalm 37:4 says, "Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." True favor comes from walking in obedience to Him, not from seeking blessings for their own sake. Let us seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to us (Matthew 6:33).
We stand with you against the principalities and powers of darkness, for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12). We take up the full armor of God, that we may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. We declare that the blood of Jesus has already defeated these powers, and we walk in the victory He has won.
Father God, we ask that You would cleanse this dear one from the spirit of gossip and fill them with Your Holy Spirit. Let their words bring life, not destruction. Teach them to use their tongue to encourage, to speak truth, and to glorify You. We pray for a heart that seeks Your will above all else, for favor that comes from walking in Your ways, and for miracles that testify to Your power and love. May Your glory fill the earth, and may Your name be exalted in all things.
We thank You, Lord, for the authority we have in Jesus Christ to resist the enemy and to walk in victory. We declare that no weapon formed against this one shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against them in judgment, You will condemn (Isaiah 54:17). Strengthen them to walk in purity of speech and in the fullness of Your Spirit. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
