Prayer of surrender

Still praying for my wife. I just wish the Holy Spirit comes into her heart and heals her. I love her so much, and this separation is hurting me

We hear the deep ache in your heart as you pray for your wife, and we join you in lifting her before the throne of grace. The pain of separation is heavy, but your love for her, rooted in Christ, is a powerful testimony of God’s faithfulness even in the midst of trial.

First, we must address the foundation of our prayers: salvation and surrender come only through the name of Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). The Holy Spirit moves where He wills, but He always points to Jesus. If your wife has not confessed Jesus as Lord, we pray that God would open her eyes to the truth of the Gospel, that Christ died for her sins, rose again, and offers eternal life to all who believe (Romans 10:9-10). Without this, no true healing or transformation can take place.

We also rebuke any spirit of hardness or rebellion that may be keeping her from receiving the Lord. Scripture warns that the heart can grow calloused, resisting the conviction of the Holy Spirit (Hebrews 3:13). But God is able to soften even the most stubborn heart (Ezekiel 36:26). We declare that no weapon formed against His work in her life shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we stand in agreement that she will come to know Jesus personally, not just as a concept but as her Savior and Redeemer.

Your longing for her healing is understandable, but we must also examine what "healing" looks like in God’s economy. True healing begins with repentance and restoration to Christ. If there are sins, unforgiveness, bitterness, idolatry, or even adultery, that have contributed to this separation, we pray she would be convicted and turn from them. Marriage is a covenant before God (Malachi 2:14), and He hates divorce (Malachi 2:16). Yet even in brokenness, His grace is sufficient to restore what has been torn apart (Joel 2:25).

We also encourage you to examine your own heart. Are you holding onto resentment or fear? Are you trusting God’s timing, or have you allowed anxiety to take root? The Bible calls us to love our wives as Christ loved the Church (Ephesians 5:25), which means praying for her with a heart of forgiveness and hope, even when the outcome is uncertain. Surrender does not mean passivity, it means actively trusting God while walking in obedience.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage before Your throne. Lord, we ask that You would draw this wife to Yourself. Soften her heart, remove any scales from her eyes, and let her see the beauty of the Gospel. Convict her of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and lead her to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone. We rebuke every spirit of deception, hardness, and rebellion that seeks to keep her from You, and we declare that she is not beyond Your reach.

Father, we pray for restoration, not just of this marriage, but of each spouse’s relationship with You. Heal the wounds that have caused separation, and let Your love be the foundation upon which they rebuild. Give this husband the strength to love his wife as Christ loves the Church, with patience, grace, and unwavering hope. Guard his heart from bitterness and fear, and fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding.

Lord, if there has been sin in this marriage, whether unfaithfulness, unforgiveness, or idolatry, we ask that You would bring it to light and grant true repentance. Restore what has been broken, and let this couple reflect Your covenant love to the world. We declare that what You have joined together, no man, or spiritual force, can separate.

We trust You, God, to work all things together for good (Romans 8:28), even in this painful season. May Your will be done, and may Your name be glorified. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to continue standing in faith, even when the circumstances seem impossible. God is not limited by human brokenness, and His plans for your marriage are for good, not for harm (Jeremiah 29:11). Keep praying, keep loving, and keep trusting, He is faithful.

We hear how much this separation is weighing on you, the ache of loving your wife and longing for the Spirit to touch her heart. That kind of love and persistence in prayer is not small in God’s eyes. The surrender you’re offering, releasing outcomes back to him, is itself a quiet, powerful act of faith. It’s the same posture Jesus modeled in the garden: not my will, but yours. And in that yielding, he gives us strength for the waiting.

So as you continue praying, be kind to your own heart as well. It’s easy to pour every petition toward her and forget that the Holy Spirit is also with you now, holding you in this loneliness. Sometimes the most fruitful thing we can do is keep bringing our own sadness to God, letting him cradle it, rather than letting it make us desperate or controlling. Maybe that’s a place you could invite a trusted friend or two into, not to strategize, but simply to pray with you, bear the weight alongside you, and remind you that you’re not carrying this alone.

We’re praying with you in this: Lord Jesus, you see the depth of love in this husband’s heart and the pain of a fractured home. We ask you to move in his wife’s life, to break down whatever keeps her distant, and to draw her gently to yourself. In the meantime, steady him with your presence. Give him courage to keep trusting, even when answers seem far off. Let your peace guard his mind and your hope anchor his soul. We rest this marriage, and his own weary spirit, in your strong and merciful hands. Amen.

Your heart is heavy, and I do not wonder at it. The separation from one you love is a wound that bleeds inwardly, and only the Divine Physician can bind it up. Yet in this sorrow, turn your eyes away from the pain itself to the Comforter who alone can heal. You wish the Holy Spirit to enter your wife’s heart and heal her; but remember, no heart ever opens its door to the Spirit except the Spirit himself first draw near. He is the Author of all spiritual life, and until he visits a soul, it lies dead in trespasses and sins. Cry mightily unto God, then, for her, but with this full persuasion: that nothing short of a new creation will suffice, and that the Holy Spirit must work, or all is vain.

Pray, yes, but pray in the Holy Spirit. The carnal mind knows nothing of this, but the Spirit helps our infirmities. He is willing to teach you how to pray, to give you words when you have none, to make your sighs articulate before the throne. Do not cease your intercession, but let it be with a full dependence on his power, never trusting in the mere act of prayer itself. The Holy Spirit is grieved by unbelief; trust him to do his own work in his own time. He is not slack concerning his promise. If you find your own heart often ready to break, remember how many times the Spirit has bound it up before. He who has made your heart his dwelling will not forsake you now.

Consider the seal of the Spirit. It is the broad seal of heaven, set upon those who believe. It is not a fleeting feeling but the Spirit himself, who witnesses with our spirits that we are the children of God. You long to see this seal upon your wife; then plead the blood of Jesus, who was anointed with the Holy Spirit without measure. The Spirit glorifies Christ, and he takes of the things of Christ and shows them to the soul. So, let your prayer be ever towards this: that she would see Jesus as altogether lovely, and that the Spirit would take away the veil from her heart. Only that which is born of the Spirit is spirit; pray for nothing less than a genuine, supernatural work of grace within her.

And as you pour out your soul, surrender everything to God. You speak of a prayer of surrender; let it be full and unreserved. Say in your inmost heart, “Not my will, but thine be done.” The Holy Spirit is holy, and he cannot dwell where self reigns. So yield your own spirit entirely to his leading, and then, by his help, you will be able to wait patiently. The separation hurts, yes, but the chisel of the great Sculptor is at work, and he often uses sharp tools to shape his children. Trust that he loves your wife more than you ever could, and that he is well able to bring her to himself.

Go on praying with fervency and holy boldness. Have you received the Holy Spirit? Then you have his power within you to lay hold of the promises. The promises themselves are sure, for they are sealed with the blood of the covenant; and the Spirit within you is the earnest of the inheritance. Let that earnest make you confident. He will not break his pledge. Look not at the waves but at him who walked upon them. He who commanded the light to shine out of darkness can shine into your wife’s heart to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. Only be you faithful in prayer, and leave the issue in those pierced hands.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your inward groaning is heard. Do not suppose that because your voice is silent, your prayer is lost. Moses cried out in his heart and God said, "Why do you cry to me?" though he spoke no word. Hannah's lips moved without sound, and her heart's cry accomplished all she wished. The blood of Abel, though dead, cried out from the ground. So also your pain, this separation that wounds you, sends forth a cry clearer than any trumpet before the throne of God. He knows the mind of the Spirit. He searches the heart. What you pour out in silence is a hymn sung to Him, not to the air, but with heedfulness. Even in the marketplace, even in your lonely room, you can collect yourself and sing to God with a contrite heart, no one hearing but He who pierces to the dividing of soul and spirit.

But take care. Grief can become a root that dries up the soul. You love your wife, and this is good, yet do not let the enemy use that love to cast you down into a pit of despair. The devil sees the law of God written in a soul and flees, but a mind given over entirely to sorrow becomes a tablet he can write upon. Do not let the sun go down on this bitterness that gnaws. Come continually to this house of healing. Let the Word, sharper than any two-edged sword, be your physician. It pierces joints and marrow, yes, but to sever the disease from the healthy, to discern where a natural longing ends and a demanding, peaceless grief begins. You pray for the Holy Spirit to enter her heart. Pray rather that He would fill your own with such abundance of grace that the enemy cannot even look upon you. A soul hanging over the fountain of Divine matters cannot be puffed up by pride nor drowned in affliction. It enjoys calm in the storm.

Concerning your wife, hope against despair. Did not the Lord open Lydia's heart by the riverside? She was a seller of purple, a woman of trade and low condition, yet God called her, and her whole household was brought in. What seems impossible to you is a single act of His will. The tree of her heart may have received ten strokes of the Word and seemed insensible, yet the eleventh fells it. The many discourses, the years of prayer, the silent testimony of your own life even in this separation, these are not wasted. They are the many remedies that reduce the disorder, preparing for the moment of sudden healing. You say you love her and wish the Spirit would come. Do not merely wish. Stand fast. "A little while, and ye shall not see me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me." This was the Lord's way, testing and proving, making their hope strong by a temporary withdrawal. Let your hope be strong. Be not cast down by the seeming silence of God. The delay is not denial. It is the training by words and sorrows so that you may bear the full presence of the blessing when it comes.

Let your prayer, then, be not a ceaseless nursing of the wound, but a continual singing to God in your heart. Entreat. Weep, if you must, but let the tears water a seed of thanksgiving for what He is working unseen. For nothing so disarms the tempter as a mind careful about Divine matters. Persevere without fainting. We have often seen those who heard much and remained insensible, yet afterwards showed all at once abundant fruit. May you, having become worthy through patient grace, obtain the restoration your soul cries out for, and may it bring great joy not to your house only, but to this whole city of God.

The ache you feel right now is not a sign of weakness. It is a mark of love, and love that prays this way is already reaching toward something real. The Holy Spirit is the one who makes a genuine confession possible. No one can truly say that Jesus is Lord apart from that inner work. So when you pray for the Spirit to come into her heart and heal her, you are asking for the very thing that must happen for any of us to come alive to God. It is not a small request or a shot in the dark. It goes to the very root of what it means to be transformed.

That kind of prayer does not return empty because the Spirit is the agent who draws, convicts, and makes the truth of Christ ring true within a person. We cannot manufacture belief or force a change of heart by our own effort. But the Spirit can break through resistance and bring the internal witness that settles every doubt. When that witness comes, a person knows. It is the sort of knowing that surpasses argument or circumstance, born of the Spirit bearing witness with our spirit. Hold onto that hope, not as wishful thinking, but as confidence in how God actually works.

Your love for her is real, and the pain of separation cuts deep. Bring that pain honestly before the Father, but also let it drive you to seek the Spirit’s fullness in your own life right now. The promise of the Spirit’s power is for all whom the Lord calls, and you need that power working in you to mortify despair, to sow to the Spirit rather than to the pain, and to keep praying with a heart that is open and sensitive to his leading. The Spirit does not leave us alone in our waiting. He is the dynamic presence who fills and empowers those who ask.

And here is something vital to hold steady within you. The Spirit testifies to the truth of Jesus Christ. His witness is true. When your mind spins with questions about the outcome, let the internal witness of the Spirit anchor you. You can know by his anointing that Jesus is Lord, that he is the Savior, and that he is able to heal what is broken. That knowledge is not just head information. It is planted deep by the Spirit and keeps you from being lost in the darkness of uncertainty. Let that truth bear down on your fears. The Spirit who raised Christ from the dead is the same Spirit who can bring life to what seems dead.

So keep asking the Father to give the Holy Spirit to her. Jesus taught that the heavenly Father gives the Spirit to those who ask him. Keep that promise in front of you. Do not let the length of time or the silence discourage you. The same Spirit who fell upon listeners while a sermon was still being preached, who is poured out in unexpected moments, is not limited by what you can see. Entrust her heart to him, and ask that the Spirit would so work that she would declare from her own heart that Jesus is Lord. That confession is the doorway, and the Spirit alone can open it. May you be sustained by the Spirit’s own witness within you, the deep knowledge that he is at work, even now, conforming all things toward his good purpose.
