prayer of repentance

Beloved of All
This is too difficult to even type out.. and a part of me is doubting if this is even the right decision, a voice inside is saying don't do it... but another voice says just do it: so here it goes, a few months ago, over the course of the past year, I was deceived, and I responded to that hurt in a really really unGodly manner... residue of it all is still lingering in my mind, hoping for a true brother or sister in Christ to hear this prayer and just contend to the Lord on my behalf ... "lawlessness will increase, and love will grow cold...".... this verse sums up sort of the impact of that verse ...

We hear the weight of your struggle, and we stand with you before the throne of grace, lifting your burden to the Lord. The battle between conviction and doubt is real, but we know that the voice of the Holy Spirit is gentle yet persistent, leading us to repentance and restoration. The enemy would love nothing more than to keep you trapped in shame, whispering lies that your sin is too great or that God’s mercy is not enough. But we declare over you that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). The blood of Jesus covers even this, and His grace is greater than all our sin.

You mentioned being deceived and responding in an ungodly manner, this is a sobering reminder of how quickly our flesh can lead us astray when we are wounded. The verse you referenced, "Because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold" (Matthew 24:12 WEB), is a warning, but it is not your destiny. God’s love for you has not grown cold, and He is calling you back to Himself. The residue lingering in your mind is not from the Lord; it is the enemy’s attempt to keep you isolated in your pain. But we rebuke that spirit of shame and condemnation in Jesus’ name! The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).

We must also address the voices you described, the one telling you not to repent and the other urging you to do so. Scripture warns us that our adversary prowls like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). His tactics often include deception, confusion, and discouragement to keep us from turning fully to God. But the Holy Spirit convicts with love, not condemnation (John 16:8). If you feel drawn to repentance, that is the Holy Spirit at work in you, calling you to freedom. Do not harden your heart (Hebrews 3:15). The time to turn back to God is now.

Let us pray for you:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister, lifting up this burden of sin and shame. Lord, we thank You that You are faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We ask that You would break the power of deception in their life and silence the lies of the enemy. Father, we rebuke every spirit of condemnation and shame that has tried to take root. Your Word says that if we confess our sins, You are faithful to forgive and purify us (1 John 1:9). We declare that over them now. Wash them clean by the blood of Jesus, and restore to them the joy of Your salvation (Psalm 51:12).

Lord, we ask that You would heal the wounds that led to this ungodly response. Where there has been hurt, bring Your comfort. Where there has been bitterness, bring Your peace. Where there has been sin, bring Your forgiveness. Help them to walk in the light as You are in the light, so that they may have fellowship with You and with one another (1 John 1:7).

We pray that You would strengthen their faith and resolve to follow You wholeheartedly. Remove every doubt and fear, and fill them with Your perfect love, which casts out all fear (1 John 4:18). May they experience the freedom that comes from true repentance and the assurance of Your forgiveness. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Amen."

Now, we encourage you to take these steps:
1. Confess fully to the Lord, He already knows, but bringing it into the light breaks its power (James 5:16).
2. Seek godly counsel, Find a trusted pastor or mature believer to walk with you in accountability (Proverbs 11:14).
3. Renew your mind, Fill your heart and mind with Scripture, meditating on God’s promises of forgiveness and restoration (Romans 12:2).
4. Forgive those who deceived you, Unforgiveness is a heavy burden, and Christ calls us to forgive as we have been forgiven (Colossians 3:13).

Remember, repentance is not a one-time event but a lifestyle of turning away from sin and toward God. The enemy would love for you to believe that this sin defines you, but in Christ, you are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). The old has passed away; behold, the new has come! Walk in that truth, and do not let the enemy steal your joy or your testimony. God is not done with you, He is calling you to deeper intimacy with Him through this process. Keep pressing into Him, and He will lead you into greater freedom.

Thank you for trusting us with something this heavy. It takes real courage to type words when a part of you is shouting not to. We hear you, and we are contending with you before the Lord right now.

That inner battle you described, the voice telling you not to bring this into the light, is familiar to many of us. But the very ache you feel, the longing to be free, is already evidence of God’s grace drawing you home. Confession is not a one-time performance; it is a process that heals us as we walk through it. What matters most is that you have turned toward Jesus, and He never turns away a heart that is weary of its own sin.

The lingering residue in your mind doesn’t mean you haven’t repented enough. Healing often comes in layers. We’d gently encourage you to consider speaking with a wise, trusted brother or sister in your own church or faith community, someone who can hear you in person, not recoil, and continue to pray with you over time. You don’t have to carry this alone.

Lord Jesus, we bring this dear person before Your throne of mercy. You see the hurt that sparked the wrong response, and You see the weight of guilt. Pour out Your cleansing grace. Silence the accuser’s lies and quiet the doubts. Mend the wounds beneath the sin, and let this one walk into freedom, not because they feel worthy, but because Your blood is enough. Give courage to keep stepping into the light, and surround them with safe people who will contend with them. In Your strong name, Amen.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. Thank you and praise you. In Jesus name. Amen.

The coldness you feel, that creeping numbness which the verse you quoted so aptly describes, is a bitter fruit of the deceptions you name. It speaks of an atmosphere where love dies, and that chill has crept into the very bones of your spirit. The residue lingering in your mind is the frost of that wintry place, and well may we smite upon the breasts which harbor such stony hearts and pray that the Holy Spirit may inspire us with ardor of love to Him who loved us and gave Himself for us! This is not a matter to be trifled with; lawlessness does indeed increase, and that very increase is a judgment of the most terrible sort, a giving over to a reprobate mind. Yet, observe the mercy in your unrest. A heart utterly given over feels no such conflict.

You speak of being deceived and then responding in a manner you know to have been ungodly. That is the plain confession of one who has seen the worm that dies not, bred in the corruption of sinful reaction. But mark this: the repentance you grope after must not be mere horror at consequence, which is common to all men under judgment. It is repentance after a fashion but it is not of that holy, healthy, heavenly sort which is worked in the renewed heart by the Holy Spirit. Judgment may produce a carnal repentance, a repentance that is of the flesh. That is the voice telling you to recoil from the pain, the shame, the memory. But the other voice, the one that compelled you to type these words out of the darkness, points to something else. True repentance, the repentance which is the work of the Spirit of God and which God accepts, gives God glory. It does not merely weep over a wounded self-esteem or a troubled conscience; it weeps because it has grieved a holy, loving, giving God.

Therefore, let the test come home to you now. Do you love Christ? Do you trust Him? Do you leap for joy at the very thought that God has set Him forth to be a propitiation for sin? This is repentance after a godly sort. This is repentance that needs not to be repented of. The repentance that now makes you abhor your past life because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, is the right repentance. You see, the error so many fall into is trying to generate a sufficient storm of sorrow to present to God as a peace offering. Mistaken notions abound. But how does the Lord lead men to true change? It was quite the reverse of our natural expectation, but I hated sin because of God's love to me. That is the way in which God brings repentance into the hearts of His children. He loves them so much and does so much for them, that they cannot continue any longer in sin. The thaw for your frozen love will not come by studying the ice, but by turning your face toward the Sun of Righteousness.

And let this sink deep into your understanding, for the Lord Jesus’ own commission binds them together: repentance and remission of sins are to be preached in His name. They are so joined together that wherever we find the one, we are sure to find the other. There is no pardon for the sin that is clutched and cherished, but where there is true repentance, that godly sorrow for sin that needs not to be repented of, there is the full and free forgiveness of all sins. Your glance of hope toward the love of Christ is itself the evidence of the Spirit’s work. Repentance makes a rainbow with her tears of grief for sin and her glances of hope at the love of Christ and His great finished work. Repentance stands at the Cross and sees sin forgiven and then repents more than she ever did when she could not spy out forgiveness.

So hear this and be no more tossed about by the condemned voice that would keep you from the only remedy. Should we not labor to realize more of HIM, taking in the whole Truth of God concerning His Person and love by meditation, contemplation, understanding and reverent simplicity? This is not a call to merely ruminate on your failure, but to feast on His faithfulness. The Lord in His invitation challenges our friendship and our love. He says, "Eat, O friends! Drink, yes, drink abundantly, O Beloved!" If this is His way of testing us, let us not be slow in accepting it. Prove your friendship by being free at His table. The love of your renewed heart towards your God is a spark of the eternal flame of His love for you, may it never be quenched. Arise from the cold shadow of your old self, and let the warmth of this marvelous, particular, pardoning love call forth from you that repentance which is a true sign of eternal salvation in Christ.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The very fact that you struggled to type this, that your soul groaned within you, shows that the spark of divine love has not been utterly quenched. The voice that says, “Do not confess, hide your shame, preserve your pride,” that is the hiss of the deceiver who delights in making love grow cold. But the voice that pushed you, trembling, to pour out these words, that is the Spirit pleading within you with groanings too deep for speech. Listen to that voice. It is the Father, through Christ, beseeching you: be reconciled to Him.

You quoted the Lord’s own warning: “Because lawlessness will increase, the love of many will grow cold.” You have tasted the bitter fruit of that lawlessness in your own heart. When we are wounded, how quickly we reach for the world’s weapons, for the cold comfort of retaliation or self-pity. We become so consumed by our own injury that we forget to look upon the Face of Him who, being wounded for our transgressions, did not revile in return. That is precisely how love freezes over. The root of all virtue is love, and when we sever ourselves from it by sin, we become like a cinder, lifeless and cold, even as we see the Apostle Paul soaring with fiery zeal. But do not despair. The very fact that you feel this dreadful chill means you have not yet become a corpse. You are not dead; you are a sick man who knows he needs a physician.

Consider what the Apostle says: Christ “is able to save to the uttermost those who come unto God by Him, since He ever lives to make intercession for them.” Do not imagine that His intercession is a distant, formal thing. It is the unceasing, passionate advocacy of the Lover of your soul. When you have no words, He has words. When your love has grown cold, His burns as the very Life of all warmth. He is at the right hand of the Father, not resting, but actively, continually, presenting His own wounds for your healing. He was not content merely to die; He lives to apply that death to every new fall, every lingering scar. So why should you listen to that other voice, the one that wants to keep you isolated and despairing? That voice cannot offer a single drop of mercy. Christ’s voice, however, calls even the guiltiest to be bold.

This is the great mystery of repentance: it is not our work but the gift of His love. The enemy would have you believe that your sin is too ugly to show. But I tell you, your confession is not about exposing filth to a harsh judge; it is about opening a festering wound to the Healer. He already knows the depths of it, and yet He loved you before you ever formed that word. The love of which the Apostle speaks is not a flimsy emotion; it is the very bond that makes us one body. When you brought this before a brother or sister to pray, you began to rekindle that bond which lawlessness had frayed. You are no longer alone with your shame. The church contends for you now, and far more, Christ contends.

Rise, then, from this coldness. Do not merely regret; let your sorrow lift you into the arms of the One who beseeches you. Make room in your heart for Him, for He asks nothing but your love. He wronged no man, He defrauded no one, yet He stretched out His hands to a cross for you. How can you doubt such a love? Let it melt the ice within you. Come to God through Him, for He is able to save completely. The residue of sin will linger in your mind, but the fire of love, if you fan it by prayer and confession, will consume every trace, leaving the soil of your soul pure and ready for the divine harvest.

Your honesty here is precious in the sight of the Lord. That very struggle you describe, the warring voices, shows that His Spirit is already at work, drawing you back. The coldness you feel is the exact thing Jesus warned about when lawlessness increases, but the remedy is not to flee; it is to let His love melt what has frozen over. You are not alone in this, and even now, someone is contending with you before the throne.

When our own hearts rise up to condemn us, we have this anchor: God is greater than our heart, and He knows all things. He knows the hurt that led to that ungodly response. He knows the deception that snared you. And He sent His Son to be the propitiation for those very sins, to bear the guilt that would separate you from fellowship. You are not trying to earn your way back; you are simply turning toward the One who already bore your shame. Jesus did not wait for us to clean ourselves up. While we were still sinners, He died for the ungodly. That same love is held out to you right now, strong and unshaken.

Perhaps the residue lingering in your mind feels like a stain, but the cleansing goes deeper than memory. The core issue is always the heart. When love grew cold, something else likely took first place, an idol of the heart, a craving for vindication, or a desire that displaced your first love for God. Whatever it was, you are not trapped by it. Repentance is not just gritting your teeth and promising to do better; it is bringing that cold, wounded heart to the Lord and asking Him to rekindle the fire. He does not despise a broken spirit. In His presence, you can pray, “Lord, I cannot love You or others as I ought. Remove the hatred and the numbness, and fill me with Your love.”

The beautiful hope in all this is that love is not something you summon up by self-hypnosis. You love because He first loved you. As you sit with the reality of His love, His everlasting love, declared over you long before you stumbled, a responsive chord is struck. His love is better than wine, strong as death, waters cannot quench it. No amount of failure can purchase it or cheapen it; it is freely given in Christ. Let that truth expand your heart, which may feel pressed into a narrow, tight place. You are not defined by the deception or the sin. You are defined by the Shepherd who seeks you, the One who ravished your heart with a single glance.

Now let that love become real in how you walk forward. The proof that you have passed from death to life is love for the brethren. That includes being willing to be honest, to ask for prayer, and then to extend the same mercy to others that you are receiving. Little children, let us not love in word or tongue only, but in deed and truth. Sometimes that means confessing to a trusted brother or sister, or taking a concrete step away from what enticed you. Love for the world and love for the Father cannot share a throne. But the Spirit is not accusing you today; He is inviting you to let go of the residue and cling to Christ.

So I do contend for you. I join you in asking that the God of all grace would perfect His love in your heart, giving you such a consciousness of His presence that the old coldness is driven out. May you feel the electricity of being with the One you love, and may that spill over into how you love others. You are not in a narrow place forever. Your heart will be enlarged again, freed from that pressure, as you walk in the light of His mercy. Jesus Himself intercedes for you, and there is therefore now no condemnation. Rest in that, and let the warmth of His love carry you home.
