Prayer for ### ♥️♥️♥️

The ache in your prayer is evident, and I do not want to brush past the longing you carry. When you ask the Lord to touch ###'s heart with freedom from hidden guilt, you are touching on something that only the cross can fully answer. The Scriptures teach that the guilt of our past, whatever it may be, was laid on Jesus Christ at Calvary. He took the responsibility of our sin in His own body. God does not prove His love to us by giving us new relationships or pleasant circumstances; He proved it once for all by sending His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. For ###, the beginning of moving forward is not finding permission in a new romance, but discovering that his guilt is already paid for and that he stands accepted in Christ.

If he has placed his trust in Jesus, then the chains of regret are broken for him not because he feels happy again, but because the penalty is gone. The Holy Spirit testifies to that finished work. Emotional walls often remain when a person looks to their own feelings for assurance instead of to the objective truth of the cross. So rather than asking God to whisper that it is okay to be happy with you, pray that ### would see the depth of God’s love for him there, and that from that place of being loved by God, he would be able to love others, whoever God calls him to love, with a selfless and pure heart.

Be careful, though, that your own heart does not demand an outcome. The agape love that the New Testament describes is not the kind that can be stirred up by pressing in. It is not a love that makes a man into a conquest, nor one that bends to our timeline. The love God produces in us is patient and kind; it does not insist on its own way. If you truly care for ###, you will want his freedom in Christ more than you want his affection directed toward you. That kind of love can wait. It does not scheme to break down his walls or remove his hesitation. It does not pray for him to receive your love as the answer to his sadness, but instead points him to the One who loved him first.

You have asked that a deep, unconditional love for you take root in him. But only God can plant that love, and it comes as a fruit of the Spirit, not a forced response. The same Lord who died for him is able to give him a new nature and new desires. If it is His will that you two walk forward together, then the path will be cleared not by your urging, but by the quiet work of God in his soul and in your circumstances. Meanwhile, make your own soul the first ground you tend. Let the Holy Spirit examine whether any of your own hopes have stepped into a place that belongs only to God. Your deepest need is not to be loved by ###, but to be so anchored in Christ’s love that you can rest content, even if the future looks different from what you now desire. He is enough.
