Servant
My wife is constantly talking about another man and saying she will leave me for another man. She is cursing at me all the time, and very disrespectful toward me for the smallest things that I do. I am very exhausted. God knows my pain. I am asking for God to convict my wife if that is His will. She is constantly bickering and saying personal things to me.

We hear your pain and your exhaustion and we stand with you before the Lord in this heavy burden for your marriage. God indeed knows your pain and sees what you are enduring, and we are bringing you and your wife before His throne together in Jesus' name.

We want to speak truth in love about what you have described. Marriage is a holy covenant before God between one man and one woman for life, and what God has joined together, let no man tear apart, Matthew 19:6. Your wife constantly talking about another man and saying she will leave you for another man is not idle talk, it is entertaining adultery in her heart and threatening the covenant. It is written, Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers, Hebrews 13:4. To even desire or pursue another man while married is adultery, and to threaten to forsake her husband for another is rebellion against God's design. We must also address the cursing, disrespect, bickering and personal attacks you describe. The Word says, But now you also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speaking out of your mouth, Colossians 3:8, and Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so, James 3:10. The Scripture also says, Let the wife see that she respects her husband, Ephesians 5:33, and wives are called to be in subjection to their own husbands in love and respect, 1 Peter 3:1. Her behavior of cursing you, disrespecting you for the smallest things, and bickering continually is sin and it grieves the Lord. We rebuke that spirit of contention and unfaithfulness, for it is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than to share a house with a contentious woman, Proverbs 21:9, and we pray God will convict her deeply, for it is His will that none should perish but that all should come to repentance, 2 Peter 3:9. So yes, it is absolutely God's will to convict her and bring her to repentance.

For you, our brother, we encourage you not to grow weary in doing good. It is written, Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don't give up, Galatians 6:9. We encourage you to continue to love your wife even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it, Ephesians 5:25, which means loving her with faithful, sacrificial love without returning evil for evil or insult for insult. A gentle answer turns away wrath, Proverbs 15:1, so do not return cursing for cursing, but bless. At the same time, love does not enable sin. We urge you to set godly boundaries, to not accept verbal abuse as normal, and to seek wise biblical counsel together with a pastor or mature married couple in your church who can speak truth to both of you and hold you both accountable. Bring this into the light, pray together if she will allow it, and fast and pray for her heart to be softened. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit, Psalm 34:18, and Jesus says, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest, Matthew 11:28. We pray you will daily cast your burden on Him and find rest for your soul even in this storm.

We noticed your request speaks of God but does not mention Jesus Christ, and we must lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. It is by believing in Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are saved and our prayers are heard. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your full trust in Jesus alone for salvation, and to pray in His name, for that is our confidence before God.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this husband who is exhausted and hurting, and we lift up his wife who is lost in disrespect, anger, and thoughts of another man. Lord, You see his tears and his pain and You know every cutting word spoken against him. We ask You to strengthen him, to renew his strength and give him Your peace that passes all understanding, to guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:7, and to help him not grow bitter but to walk in love, patience, and forgiveness while standing firm in truth. Lord, we ask You to convict his wife powerfully by Your Holy Spirit. Open her eyes to see the sin of her cursing tongue, her disrespect, her bickering, and her unfaithfulness in entertaining another man. Bring her to godly sorrow and repentance, soften her heart toward You and toward her husband, and turn her away from adultery and contention. Heal this marriage, Lord, restore honor and faithfulness to their bed and home, teach her to respect her husband and teach him to love her as Christ loves the church, and make their marriage a testimony of Your redeeming grace. Forbid that this covenant be torn apart by the enemy, and let no man separate what You have joined. Give them both godly counsel and surround them with believers who will speak Your Word over them. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We hear how exhausting this season has been for you. Hearing your wife speak about another man and about leaving, plus the constant cursing and picking at small things, would wear anyone down. We are glad you brought this honestly before God, asking for Him to work in her heart according to His will, and we want to stand with you there.

One thing we have learned is that choosing to release revenge or harsh words in the moment is not the same as feeling settled or at peace right away. You can make a quiet decision not to return insult for insult while still carrying real hurt that takes time to ease. Give yourself grace for that process and do not measure your faith by how you feel on the hardest days.

A steady next step that often helps when conversations turn to bickering is to not try to resolve everything while you are both heated. It is okay to calmly pause, step away for a short time, and return later. It also helps not to carry this alone. Consider talking regularly with one trusted pastor or mature believer who can listen, pray with you, and help you think through wise boundaries and next decisions with clarity.

Father, we lift this husband to You. You know his exhaustion and the sting of these words. Grant him rest, wisdom and dignity in how he responds. Work in his wife's heart as You will, and draw both of them toward Your truth and grace. Give him steady counsel and peace as he trusts You day by day. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your sorrow has been heard and it is not hidden from the Lord who sees all the secret griefs of the heart. You speak as one who is weary and worn, and you say truly, God knows your pain. He does know it, and He marks every bitter word that wounds you and every threat that shakes the peace of your home.

The marriage bond is of God, and it is not a light thing. In a true marriage the husband and wife become one, not two persons maintaining a separate life as if the covenant were a mere contract. The very crown of marriage is mutual delight and complacency, and where that is broken by contempt and cursing and the talk of another man, there is great sin and great sorrow. To speak of leaving a lawful husband for another is to turn away from the holy ordinance of God, and it cannot be blessed, nor can we ask God to bless it. What we do ask, and what you have rightly asked, is that God would convict where there is hardness and bring to repentance where there is wandering.

Take heart from the case of Peter. He was down, but he was soon up again. His restoration was brought about by two outward means, the crowing of the cock and a look from the Lord. That look severed Peter from the crowd and broke his heart, and it was effectual because the Lord Jesus had in private made prevalent intercession for him, saying, I have prayed for you. See then how our Lord can do with a look what we cannot do with a sermon. You have labored with words, and they have seemed to avail nothing. You are exhausted by bickering and by personal things cast against you. Yet Christ still prays for His own, and He can give that one look of convicting love which no argument of ours can supply.

We will pray with you to that end, and we pray that if it be His will, and we know it is His will that marriage should be honored and that sin should be forsaken, He would grant your wife such a look from Christ that she may see her own way and turn again. We do not pray that she may find peace in going after another, for there is no peace to be found there. As Peter could afterward say to his brethren, do not wander, there is no profit in it, come back to Him, there is such peace and rest with Him. So we pray she may be turned again to her first love and to the covenant she has made.

In the meantime you must look to the Lord for your own strengthening. You will not be restored in quite the same sense as at first, but you will be turned again to your old life and hope, and then you shall be able to strengthen others. Do not return cursing for cursing. Seek grace to bear this trial with patience, to speak the truth in love, and to remain faithful in your place. Let your life show the quiet power of a faithful husband who loves as Christ loves His Church.

Let us pray for you now.

O Lord Jesus, who ever lives to make intercession for Your people, look upon this burdened husband. You know his exhaustion and his grief. You have heard every disrespectful word and seen every threat to break the holy covenant of marriage. We pray that You would sustain him, that he may not faint under the trial, but may find rest in You. And we pray for his wife, that You would grant her a true sight of herself and of Your holiness. Give her that convicting look which Peter received, that she may go out and weep and then be restored. Turn her heart from the thought of another man and from contempt for her husband, and bring her to repentance and to love again the covenant she has made. Let this home, now so full of strife, be made one again in You, for Your glory. We ask not for our will but for Yours, and we know Your will is for purity and faithfulness and for the marriage to be held in honor among all. Hear us for Christ's sake. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your pain has been heard, and we join you in bringing it before the Lord who sees and knows all that you are carrying. To be spoken to with cursing and disrespect in your own home, and to hear your wife speak of leaving you for another man, is a heavy and exhausting burden. It is right that you have turned to God with it and asked for His will to be done.

Scripture teaches that marriage is a bond ordained by God, and that we are to follow peace with all people and holiness. Holiness in marriage means chaste and faithful living, each one remaining true to the other, for marriage is honorable and is meant to preserve faithfulness and keep us from defilement. When a person leaves his own spouse and turns toward another, Scripture calls that a form of defrauding his brother, a breaking of what God has joined. For this reason we cannot ask God to bless a relationship outside the marriage covenant, but we do ask Him to bring conviction, repentance, and healing where there has been unfaithfulness in heart or word.

We pray that God would convict your wife where she has sinned in speech and intention, and that He would soften her heart to see the seriousness of these words and threats. We pray that He would lead her to repentance and to a renewed desire for purity, respect, and faithfulness within your marriage. At the same time we pray for you, that God would give you strength in your exhaustion, grace to not return insult for insult, and wisdom to pursue peace and holiness even while you are being provoked. As it is written, if you are bound to a wife, seek not to be loosed, but to honor the covenant before God with endurance and prayer.

Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ who alone is our salvation, we lift up this husband and his marriage to You. You know his weariness and his sorrow. Grant him rest, patience, and steadiness, and guard his lips and heart so he may walk in love and self control. Work in his wife's heart by Your Holy Spirit. Convict her of any unfaithfulness, harsh speech, and disrespect, and turn her toward You in repentance and toward her husband in kindness and faithfulness. Heal what is broken, remove the thought of another man, and restore honor and peace to this home according to Your will. Help them both to live chastely and faithfully, and to seek You first. Give this brother wise counsel and support from faithful believers around him, and let Your grace sustain him day by day. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
