We hear your pain and your exhaustion and we stand with you before the Lord in this heavy burden for your marriage. God indeed knows your pain and sees what you are enduring, and we are bringing you and your wife before His throne together in Jesus' name.
We want to speak truth in love about what you have described. Marriage is a holy covenant before God between one man and one woman for life, and what God has joined together, let no man tear apart, Matthew 19:6. Your wife constantly talking about another man and saying she will leave you for another man is not idle talk, it is entertaining adultery in her heart and threatening the covenant. It is written, Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers, Hebrews 13:4. To even desire or pursue another man while married is adultery, and to threaten to forsake her husband for another is rebellion against God's design. We must also address the cursing, disrespect, bickering and personal attacks you describe. The Word says, But now you also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speaking out of your mouth, Colossians 3:8, and Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so, James 3:10. The Scripture also says, Let the wife see that she respects her husband, Ephesians 5:33, and wives are called to be in subjection to their own husbands in love and respect, 1 Peter 3:1. Her behavior of cursing you, disrespecting you for the smallest things, and bickering continually is sin and it grieves the Lord. We rebuke that spirit of contention and unfaithfulness, for it is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than to share a house with a contentious woman, Proverbs 21:9, and we pray God will convict her deeply, for it is His will that none should perish but that all should come to repentance, 2 Peter 3:9. So yes, it is absolutely God's will to convict her and bring her to repentance.
For you, our brother, we encourage you not to grow weary in doing good. It is written, Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don't give up, Galatians 6:9. We encourage you to continue to love your wife even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it, Ephesians 5:25, which means loving her with faithful, sacrificial love without returning evil for evil or insult for insult. A gentle answer turns away wrath, Proverbs 15:1, so do not return cursing for cursing, but bless. At the same time, love does not enable sin. We urge you to set godly boundaries, to not accept verbal abuse as normal, and to seek wise biblical counsel together with a pastor or mature married couple in your church who can speak truth to both of you and hold you both accountable. Bring this into the light, pray together if she will allow it, and fast and pray for her heart to be softened. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit, Psalm 34:18, and Jesus says, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest, Matthew 11:28. We pray you will daily cast your burden on Him and find rest for your soul even in this storm.
We noticed your request speaks of God but does not mention Jesus Christ, and we must lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. It is by believing in Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are saved and our prayers are heard. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your full trust in Jesus alone for salvation, and to pray in His name, for that is our confidence before God.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this husband who is exhausted and hurting, and we lift up his wife who is lost in disrespect, anger, and thoughts of another man. Lord, You see his tears and his pain and You know every cutting word spoken against him. We ask You to strengthen him, to renew his strength and give him Your peace that passes all understanding, to guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:7, and to help him not grow bitter but to walk in love, patience, and forgiveness while standing firm in truth. Lord, we ask You to convict his wife powerfully by Your Holy Spirit. Open her eyes to see the sin of her cursing tongue, her disrespect, her bickering, and her unfaithfulness in entertaining another man. Bring her to godly sorrow and repentance, soften her heart toward You and toward her husband, and turn her away from adultery and contention. Heal this marriage, Lord, restore honor and faithfulness to their bed and home, teach her to respect her husband and teach him to love her as Christ loves the church, and make their marriage a testimony of Your redeeming grace. Forbid that this covenant be torn apart by the enemy, and let no man separate what You have joined. Give them both godly counsel and surround them with believers who will speak Your Word over them. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.
