Prayer for wife suffering from postpartum cognitive decline

Please pray for my wife, her father is dying from glioblastoma, she has lost a significant amount of hair and is having trouble with her memory. Please pray for God to heal her and stand firm with her.

We join with you in lifting up your wife and your family before the Lord in this very heavy season, and we thank you for honoring your marriage and standing firm with your wife as God calls husbands to do. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it. Ephesians 5:25 Your faithfulness to stand beside her in postpartum weakness, in grief over her father, and in physical distress is a reflection of Christ's love, and we pray God strengthens you to continue bearing her burden with tenderness and patience. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2

We are moved by all she is carrying at once, the postpartum changes to her body and mind, the loss of hair, the trouble with memory, and the sorrow of watching her father face glioblastoma. The Lord sees each of these afflictions and He is near. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18 He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3 We also take comfort that God does not grow weary in caring for His children. He gives power to the faint. To him who has no might he increases strength. Isaiah 40:29 Fear not, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10

We want to gently encourage you that we come to the Father only through Jesus Christ. You asked for God to heal and to stand with her, and we want to remind you of the precious truth that it is by the name of Jesus that we have access to God and confidence that He hears us. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 If you have not already, we encourage you both to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and confessing Him as Lord. If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 It is through Him we bring every need for healing, comfort and restoration.

We pray together now for your wife and her father.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this dear wife and her husband and her father to Your throne of grace. Lord, You formed her and You know her body and mind intimately. We ask for Your healing hand upon her. Touch her postpartum body, restore what has been depleted, halt the loss of hair and renew her strength. Lay Your hand upon her mind and memory, clear the fog and confusion, and bring back clarity and peace. We pray for complete restoration according to Your will, for You are the One who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases. Psalm 103:3 We pray You would restore health to her and heal her of her wounds. Jeremiah 30:17 We also ask for Your comfort as she grieves her father. Lord, be near to him in his suffering with glioblastoma, ease his pain, and let Your peace rest upon him. If he does not yet know You, we pray he would come to know Jesus as Savior even now. Give this family Your rest, for You have said Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 Grant this husband supernatural strength, patience, wisdom and steadfast love to stand firm, to speak life over his wife, to guard her heart and to lead his home in prayer and gentleness. Let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard their hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 We ask all this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and healer. Amen.

We encourage you to continue standing firm in prayer and in practical love, and to also seek wise and timely medical care for your wife. Postpartum cognitive changes, significant hair loss and memory trouble can have physical, hormonal and emotional causes that a godly physician can help evaluate alongside prayer. Continue to cover her in Scripture, speak gently over her, help her rest as you are able, and invite trusted believers to come alongside you both for support. Do not neglect to bring her father and your family before the church for prayer as well, for the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. James 5:15 Keep casting your cares on Him, because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 We are trusting with you for God's healing, sustaining grace and nearness in the days ahead.

Thank you for bringing your wife before the Lord with us. Seeing her struggle with memory and hair loss in the postpartum season while her father is dying from glioblastoma is a lot for one heart to hold, and we can hear your love and concern for her.

These early months after birth can leave a mother physically and emotionally depleted, and anticipatory grief adds another heavy weight. It makes sense that you are worried.

A steady next step alongside prayer is to help her connect quickly with her medical care team, her OB provider or primary care doctor, so they can evaluate what she is experiencing and guide any care she needs. If you have not already, it can also help to let a few trusted people in, family, friends or someone at church, to share practical help and simply be present with you both so you are not carrying this alone. You do not need to have answers for her father's illness either, just continuing to walk beside her matters.

We are praying for you both now.

Father, we bring this wife and her husband to You. Please be near to her in this tender postpartum time, comfort her heart as she grieves her father, and give wisdom to her doctors and to those caring for her family. Give her husband strength and gentleness as he supports her. Draw them both close to You and carry them day by day. In Jesus name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your heavy burden has been laid before the Lord and we have heard it with much tenderness of heart. To see a wife in the tender season after childbearing afflicted in body and mind, losing her hair and troubled in her memory, and at the same time to watch her father brought low unto death by so cruel a disease, is a double grief which well may bow the spirit. We will stand with you in prayer and entreat the great Physician on her behalf.

We are reminded that the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and that the least thing about Christ is healing. Not only His fruit is sweet and nourishing, but His leaves are full of healing virtue. These healing leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. So we look to Him who is the Sun of Righteousness risen with healing in His wings. He heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds, and with Him healing and pardon are placed in happy conjunction. When He healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you, and pardon and healing were one. May He deal with your dear wife according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus, and grant to her body and mind a gracious restoration as it shall seem good in His sight.

We pray also for her father who now lies under the shadow of death. What is dying but departing to be with Christ, which is far better, for him who is in Christ there is a place at the right hand of God in eternal security and ineffable delight. We pray that if he knows the Saviour he may have brightness in view of the celestial city, and if he knows Him not yet, that mercy may still be sought while breath remains. And we pray that the Lord, who is the Father of the fatherless and the Patron of the helpless, will be very near to your wife in this valley, and to all your household. He who has seen Christ has seen the Father, and the Father Himself loves you. May He cause your wife to know that she is a beloved child, and to cry Abba, Father, with quiet confidence.

Let us pray together. O blessed God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, look in compassion upon this daughter of Thine in her weakness. Thou knowest her frame and her sorrow, her loss and her forgetfulness, and the heaviness laid upon her by her father's dying. Lay Thy healing hand upon her, restore her strength, settle and clear her mind, and renew her body. Comfort her heart that is broken, and let her see Thy image in her weeping eyes. Sustain her husband that he may stand firm with her in love and patience as Christ stands with His people. Prepare her father for his great change, and grant unto him pardon and peace through the blood of Christ, and give to this family to view death through the light of resurrection. Hear our prayer for Jesus sake, and let Thy will be done in healing and in comfort, to Thy glory. Amen.

May the Lord heal this wife, restore her hair and memory, strengthen her as she faces her father's illness, and help her stand firm in Him — in Jesus' name, Amen.
