Prayer for the thieves to be caught

My brother workplace have thieves stealing their plants and after uprooting the plant from the ground and pull out the roots until the plant roots is damaged and abandoned it down there waiting to die. Pray that it will be caught soon.

We join with you in bringing this matter before the Lord and we understand your concern for your brother and his workplace. It is grievous to see dishonest and destructive behavior, uprooting what others have tended and leaving it damaged and abandoned to die. Such wastefulness and theft grieves the heart of God who calls us to honesty and stewardship.

Scripture is clear that stealing is sin, as it is written You shall not steal Exodus 20:15, and again Let him who stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, producing with his hands something that is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need Ephesians 4:28. What these thieves are doing is not only taking what is not theirs but destroying what God has allowed to grow, and that will be accounted for before Him. We also take comfort that nothing is hidden from God, for there is nothing covered up, that will not be revealed, nor hidden, that will not be known Luke 12:2. Even if men do not see, the Lord sees.

We also encourage you not to give way to vengeance or bitterness in your heart, but to trust the Lord's justice and the authorities He has appointed. As it is written Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord Romans 12:19, and the governing authorities are described as a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil, for he doesn't bear the sword in vain Romans 13:4. It is right to pray for justice and for protection, and to ask that those who are stealing be stopped and brought to account, and it is also right to pray that they would come to repentance.

We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are saved and that our prayers are heard. We encourage you to place your trust fully in Him.

We pray together now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We lift up this workplace and the brother of the one who requested prayer. Lord, You see the theft and the destruction that has been done to these plants. We ask that You would protect what remains and that You would frustrate the plans of those who steal. We pray that these thieves would be caught soon, that their deeds would be exposed and that justice would be done according to Your will and through the proper authorities. We also pray for their souls, that You would convict them of sin and bring them to repentance, that they would steal no more but turn to honest labor and to You. Guard the heart of our brother and his coworkers from anger and discouragement, and help them to continue to do what is good and to trust in Your provision and protection. Let Your peace rest upon them and let Your justice prevail. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Thank you for bringing this to us, we can hear how discouraging this is for your brother and those he works with. To work hard to grow something and then find it pulled up, roots torn and just left to wither, feels so wasteful. It makes sense you would want this stopped and those responsible found quickly.

We are joining you in prayer for protection over his workplace and for wisdom for those in charge there. God does care about these kinds of wrongs, even when others might see them as small. He sees both the loss your brother is experiencing and the need for justice to be done in a right way.

A practical step that may help alongside prayer is to encourage your brother to keep a simple record if he is able, dates, photos of what was taken or damaged, and to make sure a manager or security person has that record. Having it documented helps if they need to involve local authorities, and it also means your brother does not have to carry the burden alone or approach anyone directly, which is safer to leave to those responsible for security.

Father, we bring this situation to You and ask for Your hand over your brother's workplace. We ask that You would restrain further theft and damage, give wisdom to those who can protect the grounds, and bring what has been done into the light so it can be dealt with justly. Comfort your brother in this frustration and provide for what has been lost. We pray for those who are stealing too, that their hearts would be turned toward what is right. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your request concerning the wrong done at your brother's workplace, and we join with you in sorrow that the labour of men's hands and the good things which God has caused to grow should be so wantonly uprooted and left to perish. It is a grievous thing when the work of the field is spoiled by lawless hands, and the heart is rightly stirred to seek that which is just and right.

We are reminded that the Lord is slow to anger, yet He will not at all acquit the wicked. Justice itself must stand, for God is infinitely just, and His justice demands that wrong should be met with righteousness. At the same time we know that mercy rejoices even in the presence of justice, for at the cross justice was satisfied and a way was opened for the guilty to find pardon through the blood of Christ. Therefore we do not pray for vengeance after the manner of men, but for that which is holy and good.

Let us pray together that the Lord in His wisdom would restrain the hand of the thief, that those who have done this evil may be discovered and brought to answer for it according to lawful justice, that further destruction may be prevented, and that a hedge of protection may be set about that place. He who keeps His people in all their ways has promised to give His angels charge over them, and we may ask Him to keep what has been committed to honest labour from the spoiler. We pray also for restoration, that what has been damaged may yet be recovered so far as it is possible, and that the loss may be turned to good.

Above all we pray that if it please the Lord, those who have stolen and destroyed may be brought not only to the light of discovery but to the light of conviction, to confess their guilt and to seek that great mercy, unmeasured and undeserved, which blots out transgression according to His loving kindness. For no sinner can make out a good case by appealing to justice, but he who cries, Have mercy upon me, O God, shall find that mercy flows through Him who bore our punishment.

May the Lord grant peace to your brother and to all who labour there, keep them from discouragement, and cause them to trust in His providential guidance and keeping day by day.

We have heard your request concerning your brother's workplace and the sorrow over the plants that have been stolen, uprooted and left damaged to die. It is right to grieve this loss, for it is both a theft and a waste of what God has made to grow, and it is right to bring it to the Lord in prayer.

Scripture reminds us that God does not overlook justice. Even in this life He has ordained courts and judgments among men, in homes and marketplaces and workplaces, as a sign that He Himself cares for what is right. His righteousness is like the great mountains and His right hand is full of righteousness, so no act of dishonesty is unseen by Him. At the same time we are taught that this present time is not yet the final judgment, but a time of patience in which God allows space for repentance and for a better course of life. That is why thieves and other wrongdoers are not always stopped at once, not because God approves what they do, but because He is slow to anger and desires that they turn from their sin.

We should also remember what has been said of those who steal. They have no true satisfaction even in what they possess, but live in fear and anxiety, unable to look upon others with confidence. The apostle warns that thieves, along with the covetous and other unrepentant sinners, shall not inherit the kingdom of God. This shows how serious this sin is, and how much those who practice it need mercy and repentance before the final accounting.

For this reason we must hold together both justice and mercy. Justice asks that wrong be addressed and that what is stolen be answered for, and mercy asks that the sinner be given opportunity to repent and be saved. If God dealt with any of us according to strict justice alone, none of us could stand, for we have all needed His forgiveness. As we ask for justice, we also ask for mercy to be mingled with it.

Let us pray together.

Father in heaven, You see what has been done in secret and You know the loss and frustration this has caused for my brother and those who work with him. We ask that You would protect that workplace and cause this stealing to come to an end. Guide and give wisdom to those in authority who are responsible to keep order, that they may do their work faithfully and that those responsible may be found and brought to lawful justice. Restrain further harm and provide for what has been damaged.

We also pray for those who have stolen. Bring them to conviction of their sin, take away their desire for what belongs to others, and lead them to repentance and to faith in Jesus Christ, through whom alone there is forgiveness and new life. Let them know that true peace cannot be found in what is taken dishonestly, but only in a clean conscience before You.

Give to my brother and his coworkers patience and freedom from bitterness. Keep them from being held captive by anger or by love of gain, remembering that to be caught by any one sin is still to be caught. Make them fruitful in good works, steadfast in honesty, and confident in Your care, knowing that You will in the end set all things right.
