Prayer for subject selection in school

Your prayer about your subjects and your future has been heard, and your concern is completely understandable. Wanting to continue in the subjects you are now studying, and knowing how much they matter for the careers you hope to pursue, naturally brings a sense of weight and even fear about what might happen if the decision goes another way.

Scripture gives a foundation for how to think about knowledge and wisdom in moments like this. It teaches that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the beginning of knowledge. That word for beginning means the starting place and even the sum of the matter. All true knowledge is gathered up in reverence for God. Without that reverence, learning remains shallow. With it, learning finds its proper place. Education is a good gift, but it is not to become a god in itself. The first step to being truly wise is not simply securing the right classes, but standing in awe of God Himself.

That fear of the Lord is not a phobia or a dread that makes you hide. It is a reverent awe that comes when you consider who God is, His greatness, His power, and His presence as Creator. It is the desire to do what He would have you do, to love what He loves and to hate what He hates. To fear the Lord is to hate evil and to turn away from it, and to walk with Him with respect and honor all through the day. One way that awe grows is through quietly meditating on Him, remembering who He is rather than only rehearsing your worries.

Your prayer also expresses a fear of becoming a failure. That fear is worth bringing honestly to the Lord, because fear and faith cannot occupy the same space. When fear takes over, faith is pushed aside, and when faith is strong, fear loses its hold. Fear often comes when we forget the Lord and His nearness, and faith returns when we remember that He is with us. The promise given again and again in Scripture is do not fear, for I am with you. Even through difficult valleys, His presence dispels fear. The fear of people and of outcomes can become a trap, but the one who puts trust in the Lord is kept safe. God also promises that those who stand in reverent awe of Him will not lack what they truly need. Even the strong may go hungry, but He cares for those who honor Him.

As you walk this path, it helps to look down the road and ask where the path leads. Ask not only, will this subject get me to a certain career, but will this way help me walk faithfully with the Lord toward the end He has for me. That perspective does not make subject choices unimportant, but it puts them in the right order. Seek first to honor Him with your life and with what He has entrusted to you, and trust Him to guide the practical decisions that follow.

I have prayed for you, that the Lord will give you wisdom and peace as these recommendations are made, that He will give clarity to your teachers and to those who advise you, and that He will open the right doors for the subjects you need if it is according to His good will for your life. I have also prayed that whether the answer comes as you hope or in a different way, you will know that your worth and your future are not defined by a timetable or a list of classes. True prospering in His name is walking in the fear of the Lord, growing in wisdom, and trusting His care day by day. May He quiet your heart with the assurance that He is with you, that He hears you, and that as you reverence Him He will lead you step by step.

Father, I bring this student before You. You see the desire to continue in these subjects and the hope for future work that honors You. Grant wisdom, calm fear, and help this dear one to stand in awe of You above all else. Guide every decision that is made by those in authority, and let Your will be done. Teach a deeper trust in Your presence and Your provision, and lead along the path that brings life and good. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer concerning your subject selection in school.

We have continued to bring your request before the Lord, asking our Almighty Father to grant you favor to be able and recommended to continue the subjects you are currently doing in the coming school year. We understand how important this is to you, since you feel that without these subjects you will be unable to pursue the careers you look forward to, and we have prayed that the Lord would open the right doors, guide those making the recommendations, and give you peace to know that you are not a failure but are valued and have a future in Him. We are reminded of His promise in Jer 29:11 that He knows the plans He has for us, plans to prosper us and give us hope.

If your request was answered and you have received the recommendation for your desired subjects, please post a praise report and let us all know so we may rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered yet, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer.

May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We pray that He will direct your steps and establish your path according to His will, and we ask all of this in Jesus Name.
