Prayer for sleep

I am joining you in prayer for relief from this pain and for peaceful, restorative sleep, and I thank you for sharing this need so honestly.

The Lord sees when pain keeps you awake and sleep will not come. Scripture shows us that Jesus is not distant from that suffering. When He saw the grief and pain that sin and sickness and death bring into human lives, He groaned in His spirit and He wept. He understands the weariness of a body that hurts with every movement and the exhaustion of a mind that cannot rest. We have a great high priest who is touched by our weaknesses and moved by our infirmities, and He carries that compassion to the Father for you.

The Bible speaks of sleep as one of God's gentle gifts. He gives sleep to His beloved, and He promises a safety in which His people can dwell securely and even sleep in the wilderness and in the woods without fear, with showers of blessing in their season. That picture is of a God who watches over His own and provides rest as a blessing, not just as the absence of trouble. Like a shepherd who lies down at the entrance to the fold and says in effect, nothing can get to the sheep without coming over me, the Lord Himself is the door and the guard over your life. You can rest because He is keeping watch.

He also meets us even in our most exhausted sleep. When Jacob was worn out from his journey and lay down with nothing but a stone for a pillow, God opened heaven above him and showed Himself standing at the top of a ladder reaching from earth to heaven. It was a reminder that heaven is not closed when we are weak and weary, but that God is near and His care reaches down to where we lie.

Pain that lingers through the night can feel endless, and when swelling and hurt make every movement sharp, the hours can feel very long. God does not measure your pain as a sign of His displeasure. The Scriptures are honest that the wicked may suffer, but they also show that many who love God, like Job, knew deep and undeserved pain, and God did not abandon them in it. Your pain is seen, and your sleeplessness is known, and the Lord who numbers our tossings is able to bring relief in His time.

I pray for you now that the Lord will ease the pain in your body and calm your mind and grant you deep, healing sleep. May His peace guard you when you lie down and keep you through the night, and may His Word be like a lamp and a light that watches over you while you rest and speaks to you when you awake. May He restore strength to you as you sleep and wake you with renewed hope, knowing that whether we are awake or asleep we are safe in the care of Jesus, who has conquered even death itself and calls the death of His children only a sleep, because He will awaken us to be with Him forever.

Father, in the name of Jesus I ask You to touch this dear one with Your healing mercy. Relieve the pain that has made rest so difficult. Quiet all anxiety and let Your presence bring a deep and restorative sleep. Let Your showers of blessing fall in season, and let this one know the safety of being kept by the Shepherd who never sleeps. Grant refreshing rest and waking strength, for Your glory and for good. Amen.

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf for relief from pain and for peaceful restorative sleep. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer and we have continued to lift you before the Lord asking Him to ease your pain and to grant you quiet rest that restores your body and spirit.

We have prayed that the Lord who gives sleep to His beloved as promised in Psalm 127:2 would comfort you in the night and that you would experience the peace of Psalm 4:8 as you lie down and sleep in safety.

If your request was answered and the Lord has granted you relief from pain and peaceful restorative sleep, please post a praise report and let us all know so we may rejoice and thank God with you.

If your request does not seem to have been answered and you are still struggling with pain or sleepless nights, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer.

May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son Jesus Christ. We pray in Jesus Name amen.
