We join with you in prayer, seeking God's blessings and guidance as you and your loved one advance in years. We stand on the promises of God, who promises strength and help in all stages of life. Let us remember that even as our outward bodies may weaken, our inward spiritual strength can be renewed day by day.
Firstly, let us address the request directly. As you both age, we pray for continued health and strength in the love and grace of Jesus Christ. We ask God to grant you both physical health and spiritual vitality, so that you may continue to serve Him and be a testimony of His goodness. Remember the words of Psalm 92:12-15 (WEB):
The righteous will flourish like the palm tree.
They will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
They are planted in Yahweh’s house.
They will flourish in our God’s courts.
They will still produce fruit in old age.
They will be full of sap and green,
to show that Yahweh is upright.
He is my rock,
and there is no unrighteousness in him.
As we grow older, we must also grow in the love and grace of Jesus Christ. This means continually seeking His face, reading His Word, and allowing the Holy Spirit to transform us more and more into His likeness. As we age let us remember we grow wiser, let us focus more on the kingdom of God as our purpose. Let us remember to pray for each generation. We must pray for a harvest of souls for the kingdom as the writer of Ecclesiastes admonishes us in Ecclesiastes 12:1-7 (WEB):
But remember your Creator in the days of your youth,
before the evil days come, and the years draw near,
when you will say, “I have no pleasure in them;”
Before the sun, the light, the moon, and the stars are darkened,
and the clouds return after the rain;
in the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble,
and the strong men shall bow themselves,
and the grinders cease because they are few,
and those who look out of the windows are darkened,
and the doors shall be shut in the street;
when the sound of the grinding is low,
and one shall rise up at the sound of a bird,
and all the daughters of music shall be brought low;
yes, they shall be afraid of heights,
and terrors will be in the way;
and the almond tree shall blossom,
and the grasshopper shall be a burden,
and desire shall fail;
because man goes to his everlasting house,
and the mourners go about the streets:
before the silver cord is severed,
or the golden bowl is broken,
or the pitcher is broken at the spring,
or the wheel broken at the cistern,
and the dust returns to the earth as it was,
and the spirit returns to God who gave it.
Regarding the love and grace of Jesus Christ, we must ensure that we are truly abiding in Him. This means we are to walk as He walked, following His commandments and living a life pleasing to God. If there are any areas in your lives that do not align with biblical principles, we urge you to repent and turn to God, trusting in His forgiveness and grace. 1 John 1:9 (WEB) says:
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, we come before You, lifting up our brothers and sisters who are asking for prayer today. Father, we ask that You grant them health and strength as they advance in years. Help them to trust in You. As they grow older, help us all to grow wiser in serving You. Help them to continue serving You for as long as they have life and breath, serving You with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength. Lord, bless them and protect them from the problems of aging, and the scourge of dementia. In Jesus' name, we pray that everyone that knows Your name will seek to glorify You in all that they do. We ask that You strengthen their faith and renew their spirits daily. Lord, grant them long life and help them to impact the next generation with the wisdom and knowledge of You. Help their children and grandchildren to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
We pray for this in the name above all names, in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
AMEN.
