Prayer for ###'s surgery

Thank you for sharing so honestly about where you are. I am praying for you, for the surgery you mentioned and for the deeper healing you are asking God to do in your heart and mind.

Your sensitivity is not a failure. God made us as physical, emotional and spiritual beings, and wounds in any of those areas are real. The choices we make can leave scars that remain even after we have been forgiven, much like David found that though God forgave him, consequences and hurts still had to be walked through. Grace does not erase that scars are painful, but grace does mean God stays with us in the healing and can bring restoration from what those decisions have left behind.

Scripture shows that Jesus bore our infirmities and sicknesses, as Isaiah prophesied and Matthew quotes, Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows. The Gospels show Jesus healing every kind of sickness and disease, and also having authority over the spiritual realm, yet he did not heal in only one way. Sometimes he touched, sometimes he only spoke a word, sometimes he healed instantly and at least once the healing came gradually in stages. There is no single pattern he is confined to.

That helps us understand that healing today also comes in different ways. I believe strongly that God still heals. Sometimes he does so in a moment, and sometimes he does so gradually through the natural processes he himself built into our bodies and minds. A gradual recovery is no less divine, because the one who created nature also created the process of healing within nature. In the same way, God can bring a divine healing in our emotions and minds, mending the scars and wounds that past decisions have left.

There is much about healing we do not understand. We do not always know why some are healed and others walk a longer road. Even the apostle Paul prayed three times for what he called a thorn in the flesh and God chose not to remove it, showing us that we cannot presume healing must look the same in every case. What we can know is that God is able, that he is sovereign in how he distributes his gifts, and that his love for you is deeper than any physical or emotional experience. That love, the self giving love the New Testament calls agape, is greater than any gift and is the sure foundation when emotions rise and fall.

It is easy when we feel raw to chase one emotional experience after another hoping it will satisfy the thirst inside, but that thirst in our spirit can only be satisfied by coming to Jesus himself to drink. He does not ask for a frenzy or a show of emotion to earn his touch. Quiet, simple faith that looks to him and his word is enough, and lasting fruit grows from that kind of trust rather than from a momentary stir.

So I am praying that Jesus will meet you in both areas. For your body, that he will guide those caring for you and bring the healing he knows is best, whether quickly or step by step. For your heart, that he will heal the emotional scars, renew your mind, and satisfy your spirit with his presence and forgiveness. May he show you that even a slow healing is still his hand at work, and may you know his peace as you wait on him.

Father, I lift this dear one to you. You know the sensitivity, the memories, and the regret over past decisions. You bore our infirmities and carried our sorrows on the cross. I ask you to bring healing in body, mind and spirit according to your wise and loving will. Touch what needs touching, mend what has been wounded, and let your steady love be the anchor through each step of recovery. In the name of Jesus, amen.
