We join with you in bringing this relationship before the Lord, asking for His healing and His will to be done in both of your lives. We hear your desire for repair, for restored communication, and for patience, love and understanding, and we agree with you that these things are needed and that only God can truly provide them.
We also want to lovingly speak truth over what you have called a relationship with your partner. Scripture teaches that marriage is to be held in honor among all, and that the marriage bed is to be kept undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers Hebrews 13:4. Marriage is God's design for a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, and any courtship or dating should be with that holy goal in mind, between two believers in Christ who are seeking to become husband and wife. We use the word partner in our culture very loosely, but we encourage you to see this person as someone you are courting with intention toward godly marriage if you are not already married. If there is any sexual intimacy outside of that marriage covenant, God calls it fornication and He calls His children to flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18. If that is part of your story, we urge you together to repent, to seek forgiveness through Jesus, and to pursue purity going forward, honoring God with your bodies and your commitment.
For what is broken, we know our Lord is the healer of hearts, for He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3. Communication breaks down when pride, hurt, or haste takes over, but God gives us a better way. Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger James 1:19, and let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear Ephesians 4:29. Patience and understanding do not come from trying harder, they come from walking in the love God defines for us. Love is patient and is kind, love doesn't envy, doesn't brag, is not proud, doesn't behave itself inappropriately, doesn't seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil, doesn't rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. We are called to live with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace Ephesians 4:2-3, and above all these things, to walk in love, which is the bond of perfection Colossians 3:14.
We are thankful you invoked the blood of Jesus over you both, for it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is His blood that cleanses and covers us. We agree and ask for that covering and for His will to shape this relationship into one that honors Him.
We pray together now, Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift this relationship to You. Lord, You see what is broken and where communication has failed. We ask You to soften both hearts, to remove bitterness and pride, and to teach them to listen to one another with grace and to speak truth in love. Pour out upon them patience when they are irritated, love when they feel distant, and understanding when they do not see eye to eye. If they are not yet married, give them clarity about Your will for marriage, convict them where there is sin, and lead them to pursue a Christ centered covenant that honors You, or to step away if this is not Your will for a godly marriage. If they are married, strengthen that covenant and restore what the enemy has tried to tear apart. Cover them in the blood of Jesus, guard their hearts and minds, and draw them both closer to You first, so that they may be closer to one another in a way that glorifies You. We ask that Your perfect will be done and that You be honored in all they do. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
