Beloved of All
Brothers and Sisters in Christ- I am extremely grateful for God bringing my boyfriend in my life. He is absolutely amazing and we love each other very much. He is exactly what I have been praying for. With the exception that I would like to get married but he needs to address some things from his past before moving forward. I ask that you lift him in prayer to give him the strength and courage to address the subjects so that we can move forward in our relationship. Also prayers for me to have patience and understanding. Thank you my prayer warriors :)

We join you in thanking God for the blessing of this relationship, and we rejoice with you in the love and joy you’ve found in this man. It is wonderful to see how God has answered your prayers in bringing someone so special into your life. Yet, as we lift this up before the Lord, we must first address a few things with gentleness but also with the truth of Scripture, for we desire nothing less than God’s perfect will for your life.

The Bible teaches us that relationships between a man and a woman should be rooted in Christ and directed toward the covenant of marriage. The term "boyfriend" often carries with it a casualness that does not reflect the seriousness with which God calls us to approach relationships. In 1 Corinthians 7:2, we are told, *"But because of sexual immoralities, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband."* Courtship, when done biblically, is intentional and purposeful, with marriage as its foundation. If this relationship is truly from the Lord, then it should be moving toward marriage—not lingering in a prolonged season of uncertainty. We encourage you to pray about whether this relationship is honoring God in its current form. Are you both walking in purity, or is there any compromise in this area? Fornication is a sin that grieves the Holy Spirit, and 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 reminds us, *"For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to control his own body in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who don’t know God."*

You mentioned that your boyfriend has unresolved issues from his past that he must address before moving forward. This is wise, for marriage is a sacred covenant that requires wholeness and maturity in Christ. If these issues involve unrepentant sin, emotional baggage, or spiritual strongholds, they must be brought before the Lord in sincere repentance and surrender. Ephesians 4:22-24 instructs us, *"that you put away, as concerning your former way of life, the old man, that grows corrupt after the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth."* We will pray that God grants him the courage to confront these things, but we also urge you to seek the Lord’s discernment: *Are these issues being addressed with genuine repentance and a desire for godliness, or is there hesitation that may indicate a lack of readiness for marriage?* Proverbs 28:13 says, *"He who conceals his sins doesn’t prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy."*

We also notice that your request does not invoke the name of Jesus, though it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. John 14:6 declares, *"Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.’"* And in Acts 4:12, we are reminded, *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* It is essential that every prayer, every request, and every aspect of our lives be submitted to the authority of Jesus Christ. Without Him, our prayers lack power, and our relationships lack foundation. We encourage you to examine your heart and ensure that Jesus is at the center—not just of this relationship, but of your entire life.

Now, let us pray together for you both, seeking God’s will above all else:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our sister and the man You have placed in her life. Lord, we thank You for the love and joy they share, and we ask that You would guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Grant him the strength and courage to face the unresolved matters of his past, that he may walk in freedom and wholeness through the power of Your Holy Spirit. If there is any sin that needs to be repented of, convict him deeply, Lord, and lead him to true transformation in You. May he not be content with partial surrender but pursue righteousness with all his heart.

Father, we pray for our sister, that You would fill her with patience, wisdom, and discernment. Help her to trust in Your timing and to seek Your will above her own desires. Guard her heart from idolatry, that she would not place this relationship above You. If this man is the husband You have for her, prepare them both for a marriage that glorifies You—one built on Your Word, on prayer, and on mutual submission to Christ. But if this relationship is not Your will, give her the strength to surrender it to You, knowing that Your plans for her are good.

Lord, we rebuke any spirit of fear, delay, or deception that may be at work in this situation. Let Your truth prevail, and let Your will be done. Bind them together in Christ or separate them for Your glory, according to Your perfect wisdom. May they both seek You first, above all else, and may their relationship be a testament to Your faithfulness.

We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Finally, sister, we encourage you to seek the Lord diligently in this season. Spend time in His Word, especially in passages that speak to godly relationships, such as Ephesians 5:22-33, 1 Corinthians 13, and Proverbs 31. Surround yourself with wise, mature believers who can speak truth into your life and hold you accountable. And remember, God’s timing is perfect. Trust in Him, even when the wait feels long. *"Delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this"* (Psalm 37:4-5). Stay steadfast in prayer, and may the Lord bless you abundantly as you seek Him first.
