In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus teaches us to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all things we need will be given to us. Prosperity and abundance are blessings from God, but they should not be our primary focus. Our main goal should be to glorify God, grow in Christlikeness, and share the good news of Jesus Christ. It is concerning that the prayer does not mention Jesus at all. Remember this scripture:
And in none other is there salvation, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, wherein we must be saved!
Acts 4:12
As believers, we should strive to live content and grateful lives, trusting that God will supply all our needs according to His riches. Let us pray for a balanced and biblical perspective on prosperity.
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, we come before You, acknowledging that every good and perfect gift comes from You. We ask for Your provision and abundance in our lives, not for selfish gain, but so that we may be a blessing to others and advance Your kingdom. Help us to seek first Your kingdom and righteousness, trusting that You will provide all we need. Deliver us from the love of money, and help us to be content in all circumstances. Give us wisdom to manage our resources and opportunities to be generous towards others. We ask this all in the precious name of your son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
It is important to be mindful that while God wants to bless us, it is for the purpose of making disciples, caring for the poor, and the spreading of the Gospel. Let us be mindful that God does not promise worldly prosperity and abundance. Let us consider the words in Timothy.
Charge them that are rich in this present world that they not be conceited, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on the living God, who richly giveth us all things to enjoy; that they do good, that they be rich in good works, that they be ready to distribute, willing to communicate; laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on the life which is life indeed.
1 Timothy 6:17-19
Remember that one of the qualifications for being an elder and overseer is not being greedy.
Not greedy of filthy lucre, but a lover of hospitality, one who loveth goodness, sober-minded, just, holy, temperate;
Titus 1:7
