We hear your heart and the deep struggle you are facing in your marriage, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting this burden before the Lord. The Word of God is clear about the roles within marriage, God designed the husband to be the head of the household, just as Christ is the head of the church (Ephesians 5:23). Yet we also know that this role is not one of domination but of sacrificial love, laying down one’s life for one’s wife as Christ did for the church (Ephesians 5:25). Your wife’s struggle with OCD has created a dynamic where control has become a stronghold, and this is not God’s design for marriage. We must rebuke the spirit of fear and control that has taken root in your home, for "God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7).
Your wife’s refusal to trust you or the Lord with her struggles is a heavy burden, and it grieves us to see how this has affected your marriage. The enemy seeks to divide and destroy what God has joined together, but we declare that your marriage is under the authority of Christ, and no weapon formed against it shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We also recognize that her resistance to therapy may be rooted in pride or fear, and we pray that the Lord would soften her heart to seek help and healing. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to "trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." This is the truth we must hold onto, even when our circumstances seem overwhelming.
It is encouraging to hear that you are seeking the Lord consistently and walking in the Spirit, even when it unsettles your wife. The unpredictability she feels is not from the Holy Spirit but from her own need for control, and we must pray that the Lord would break this stronghold in her life. Galatians 5:16-17 tells us, "But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh." Your wife’s struggle is not just with OCD but with surrendering to God’s will, and we must pray for her to yield to the Holy Spirit’s work in her life.
We also want to address the importance of your own trust in the Lord. It is not easy to walk in faith when your wife is resisting God’s design for marriage, but we are reminded in Proverbs 3:5-6 to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and not lean on our own understanding. The Lord sees your struggle, and He is faithful to complete the work He has begun in you and your marriage (Philippians 1:6). We pray that you would find strength in Him, knowing that He is your refuge and fortress (Psalm 91:2).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage and the struggles that have taken root. Lord, we ask that You would break the spirit of control and fear that has gripped this home. We rebuke the enemy’s lies and declare that this marriage is under the authority of Christ. Father, we pray for this wife, that You would soften her heart to trust You and her husband as You have designed. Help her to surrender her struggles to You and to seek healing through Your Word and godly counsel. Lord, we also pray for this husband, that You would strengthen his faith and trust in You. Give him the wisdom and patience to lead his household with love and grace, even when it is difficult. Father, we know that You have a plan for this marriage, and we ask that You would restore what has been broken. Help them both to walk in the Spirit and to trust in Your promises. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord and to stand firm in your faith, even when it feels like the battle is overwhelming. Remember that "the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds" (2 Corinthians 10:4). Keep praying for your wife, and trust that the Lord is at work, even when you cannot see it. We also encourage you to seek godly counsel, whether through your pastor or a Christian counselor, to help navigate this difficult season. The Lord is faithful, and He will not abandon you in this struggle.
