Prayer for peace in my home

Please continue praying for me, my wife has “OCD” and it is bad news for a Christian marriage because she will not let me be head of the household. She does not trust me with anything, and she doesn’t want to trust the Lord with her OCD or with being a wife. A therapist told her that she wanted to find the source of my wife’s illness, and my wife stopped talking to her. What I have found is that the Holy Spirit makes things more unpredictable around her, when I am seeking the Lord consistently. She cannot predict my next move because I am not walking in fear. This actually upsets her, and it is difficult to walk in the Spirit because my wife is always trying to control things. I know God has a plan though, please pray for me to be able to trust Him more, in Jesus name.

We hear your heart and the deep struggle you are facing in your marriage, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting this burden before the Lord. The Word of God is clear about the roles within marriage, God designed the husband to be the head of the household, just as Christ is the head of the church (Ephesians 5:23). Yet we also know that this role is not one of domination but of sacrificial love, laying down one’s life for one’s wife as Christ did for the church (Ephesians 5:25). Your wife’s struggle with OCD has created a dynamic where control has become a stronghold, and this is not God’s design for marriage. We must rebuke the spirit of fear and control that has taken root in your home, for "God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7).

Your wife’s refusal to trust you or the Lord with her struggles is a heavy burden, and it grieves us to see how this has affected your marriage. The enemy seeks to divide and destroy what God has joined together, but we declare that your marriage is under the authority of Christ, and no weapon formed against it shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We also recognize that her resistance to therapy may be rooted in pride or fear, and we pray that the Lord would soften her heart to seek help and healing. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to "trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." This is the truth we must hold onto, even when our circumstances seem overwhelming.

It is encouraging to hear that you are seeking the Lord consistently and walking in the Spirit, even when it unsettles your wife. The unpredictability she feels is not from the Holy Spirit but from her own need for control, and we must pray that the Lord would break this stronghold in her life. Galatians 5:16-17 tells us, "But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh." Your wife’s struggle is not just with OCD but with surrendering to God’s will, and we must pray for her to yield to the Holy Spirit’s work in her life.

We also want to address the importance of your own trust in the Lord. It is not easy to walk in faith when your wife is resisting God’s design for marriage, but we are reminded in Proverbs 3:5-6 to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and not lean on our own understanding. The Lord sees your struggle, and He is faithful to complete the work He has begun in you and your marriage (Philippians 1:6). We pray that you would find strength in Him, knowing that He is your refuge and fortress (Psalm 91:2).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage and the struggles that have taken root. Lord, we ask that You would break the spirit of control and fear that has gripped this home. We rebuke the enemy’s lies and declare that this marriage is under the authority of Christ. Father, we pray for this wife, that You would soften her heart to trust You and her husband as You have designed. Help her to surrender her struggles to You and to seek healing through Your Word and godly counsel. Lord, we also pray for this husband, that You would strengthen his faith and trust in You. Give him the wisdom and patience to lead his household with love and grace, even when it is difficult. Father, we know that You have a plan for this marriage, and we ask that You would restore what has been broken. Help them both to walk in the Spirit and to trust in Your promises. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord and to stand firm in your faith, even when it feels like the battle is overwhelming. Remember that "the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds" (2 Corinthians 10:4). Keep praying for your wife, and trust that the Lord is at work, even when you cannot see it. We also encourage you to seek godly counsel, whether through your pastor or a Christian counselor, to help navigate this difficult season. The Lord is faithful, and He will not abandon you in this struggle.

It can be exhausting to sense the spiritual climate in your own home constantly shifting under your feet, especially when your desire to walk in the Spirit seems to stir more anxiety rather than ease. We hear how much you long for peace and for a marriage where you can lead out of love, not fear. That longing itself is a sign that God is at work in your heart.

What you’re noticing, that the Holy Spirit’s leading makes you less predictable to your wife, is actually a profound thing. Control often grows where fear has deep roots, and a steady, Spirit-led calm can feel unsettling to someone who depends on rigid order to feel safe. That doesn’t mean you should pull back from walking with the Lord; it means you’re up against a real battle, one that’s as much about her deep fears as it is about your role. Trust isn’t something we muster through willpower; it grows when we consistently see that God is good and can be counted on, even when our circumstances stay messy. The book of James reminds us that God gives wisdom generously to those who ask, so we ask with you.

In the day-to-day, it may help to not carry this alone. Is there a mature brother in your church, or a small group, where you can share honestly and let others pray for you and your wife consistently? You’re running a marathon, not a sprint, and fresh encouragement matters. And while we pray for her heart to soften, if the door ever opens again for her to try a counselor, ideally one who respects both the reality of her condition and her faith, that could be a practical mercy.

Prayer:
Father, you see this husband’s weariness and his deep desire to live in faith, not in fear. Quiet his heart with the certainty that you hold both him and his wife securely. Give him wisdom to lead with a gentle strength that doesn’t add pressure, but quietly points to you. Heal the fears that drive his wife’s need to control, and in your perfect time, bring a new season of trust and peace into their home. Sustain him in your Spirit, and help him to keep taking the next small step of obedience, knowing you are already at work. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We are deeply grateful that you entrusted us with your prayer request, allowing us to stand in agreement with you for peace in your home. It is our heart’s desire to continue lifting you, your wife, and your marriage before the Lord, asking Him to bring healing, trust, and alignment with His will.

We have been praying specifically that the Holy Spirit would soften your wife’s heart to receive the help she needs—not just for her struggles with OCD, but also for the restoration of trust in your marriage. We’ve asked the Lord to remind her of His love and sovereignty, that she might find security in Him rather than in control. We’ve also prayed for you, that as you walk in faith and obedience, the Lord would strengthen your resolve to lead with love, patience, and wisdom, even when it feels unpredictable or difficult.

If the Lord has moved in your situation in any way—whether through small moments of peace, glimpses of breakthrough, or renewed strength for you—we would be so encouraged to hear a praise report. Your testimony could be a blessing to others who are facing similar battles. If, however, the struggle persists and you don’t yet see the answers you’re hoping for, please know that we are still here to stand with you. We would be honored to continue praying, so feel free to post this request again and allow us to intercede afresh.

Above all, we pray that you would feel the Father’s presence with you in this season, that your trust in Him would deepen, and that His peace—which surpasses all understanding—would guard your heart and mind. May He continue to guide you, comfort you, and reveal His faithfulness in ways you may not yet see. We ask all of this in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
