It is well that you have brought your burden before the throne of grace, for the Word commands, “Cast your burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee.” The many cares you pour out concerning your son are not hidden from our heavenly Father, and He invites you to leave them all in His pierced hands.
You seek acceptance for your son into the school of his choice. Remember that, in the Gospel, we have a blessed year of acceptance, the Jubilee of our Lord, wherein men are set free without money and without price. If your child is to enter that earthly institution, it will be by the unmerited favour of God, for “no man ever paid a penny of redemption money on the Jubilee morning, every man was free simply because Jubilee was proclaimed.” Far more, you have the assurance that, having trusted Jesus Christ, your son is accepted in the Beloved, and the chief of earthly blessings cannot compare with that eternal enrollment. Do not let Evil Questioning, who is the offspring of Mr. Worldly Wiseman, whisper that the Lord will not supply this need; he invariably draws his conclusions from his wishes, but faith draws hers from the promises.
As for the daily ferry travel and the safe journeys, here is a precious word: “Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling… to the only wise God our Saviour.” Our safety lies in our Saviour. Not a step is taken in any vessel without His eye watching over that young soul. The God who holds the sea in the hollow of His hand will be a shield round about him, and you may sleep without anxiety, even as Job, who feared for his children yet did not rest till he had lifted them up to the sacrifice. Be anxious for your son’s sanctification, as that holy man was, but when you have prayed, let the burden roll onto the Lord.
Your fear of evil altars and malicious curses springs from a natural love, yet we are taught, “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” The saints of God are not to indulge in dread of hidden plots, for that were to meet evil with evil of our own making. The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin, and where sin is washed away, no enchantment or imprecation can fasten upon the redeemed. The day of vengeance belongs to our God; He will deal with the wicked, while we rest in the year of acceptance. As for the pictures and videos, we do not fight darkness with shadows, but with the light of Christ. Overcome evil with good by entrusting your son’s protection to the One who sees all and will bring every idle word into judgment.
The bursary and financial aid are small things to Him who feeds the ravens. Yet in all this praying, examine your heart, lest your service be formal. God says, “My son, give Me your heart.” If your cry for these temporal blessings springs from a spirit that is truly His, the incense will rise. But know that even now, while you ask for these things, your greater need is to grasp that the Lord has cast all your sins behind His back for Christ’s sake. He sees His Son bearing your sin, and such an impression did it make upon His great soul that He forgets the sins for which His Son gave His life.
Therefore, rise from your knees with confidence. The evil that lurks in every heart is cleansed by that precious blood, and the safety you long for your son is wrapped up in the Saviour who is able to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy. Cast your burden upon the Lord; He will sustain both mother and son, and give you a new song of praise.
