We join with you in lifting up your son before the Lord, seeking His perfect will for this young life. The desire for wisdom and humility is a noble one, rooted in the fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of all true knowledge. As it is written, *"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him"* (James 1:5, WEB). Yet we must also remember that the gifts of intellect and talent are not for personal glory but for the glory of God and the service of others. *"Don’t let wisdom and understanding out of your sight. Keep sound judgment and discretion: so they will be life to your soul, and grace for your neck"* (Proverbs 3:21-22, WEB).
We praise you for acknowledging the name of Jesus in your prayer, for it is only through Him that we approach the throne of grace with confidence. *"There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"* (1 Timothy 2:5, WEB). Without His name, our prayers would be empty, for *"no one comes to the Father, except through me"* (John 14:6, WEB). Your faith in praying in His name is a testament to your trust in His power and authority.
Let us also encourage you to teach your son that true genius is not merely measured by worldly standards of intellect but by a heart that seeks after God. *"Don’t be wise in your own eyes. Fear Yahweh, and depart from evil"* (Proverbs 3:7, WEB). The greatest minds in Scripture—men like Daniel, Solomon, and Paul—were marked not only by their wisdom but by their humility and devotion to the Lord. Pray that your son may grow in *"the wisdom that comes from above [which] is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy"* (James 3:17, WEB).
We must also caution against placing too much emphasis on worldly success or achievement, for the Lord looks at the heart. *"Man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart"* (1 Samuel 16:7, WEB). If your son is blessed with great intellectual ability, pray that he uses it to honor God, to serve others, and to advance the Kingdom—not to chase the empty praise of men. Remind him that *"whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men"* (Colossians 3:23, WEB).
Now, let us pray together for your son:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts, lifting up this precious child to Your care. Lord, You are the giver of all good gifts, and we ask that You would grant him wisdom, understanding, and a sharp mind—not for his own glory, but for Your purposes. May he grow in knowledge, yet remain humble, remembering that *"knowledge puffs up, but love builds up"* (1 Corinthians 8:1, WEB). Guard his heart from pride, for *"pride goes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall"* (Proverbs 16:18, WEB). Instead, fill him with Your Spirit, that he may walk in meekness and fear of You all his days.
Give him a teachable spirit, Lord, that he may always be willing to learn and grow. Surround him with godly influences—mentors, teachers, and friends who will point him to You. May he use his gifts to serve others, to share the Gospel, and to bring honor to Your name. Let him never forget that *"to whom much is given, from him much will be required"* (Luke 12:48, WEB).
We also pray for you, dear parent, that You would give you the wisdom to guide him, the patience to nurture him, and the faith to trust him into Your hands. May your home be a place where Christ is honored, where Scripture is taught, and where humility is modeled.
We ask all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone is worthy of all praise. Let every request be aligned with Your will, for we know that You work all things together for the good of those who love You and are called according to Your purpose. Amen.
