Beloved of All
Your love for your son is a beautiful reflection of the love our heavenly Father has for His children. Scripture presents the love of a father for his son as one of the deepest loves we can know on earth, and it points us to the greater love of God who so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. Because God knows that kind of love, He fully understands the burden you carry for your son and He invites you to bring it to Him.
We join you in praying that God will give your son strength, clarity of mind, and perseverance as he faces this difficult coursework. Pray that the Lord will grant him wisdom and self discipline for his studies, help him to manage his time well, and provide the help he needs from teachers and others around him. God is able to sustain him and to carry him through what feels overwhelming, and it is good that you want your son to see that any success comes through the Lord and not merely by his own effort.
At the same time we want to encourage you to keep the larger hope in view. Wanting our children to be successful, happy, and well educated are natural desires, but the most important success is that they walk with the Lord. A degree or a good grade cannot give eternal life. Scripture teaches that God sent His Son, born of a woman and born under the law, to redeem those under the law so that we might receive adoption as sons, and that He sends the Spirit of His Son into our hearts so we can cry Abba, Father. The one who has the Son has life. That relationship with Jesus Christ is the true foundation for any other success.
So as you pray for his classes, also pray that this season draws your son closer to Christ, that he would grow in wisdom and in reverence for the Lord, and that his heart would be set on honoring God in his work. Proverbs speaks of the joy a father has when his son walks in wisdom and speaks what is right. That kind of wisdom is a deeper answer to prayer than any grade.
We are praying with you that God will help your son complete his work well, that he will experience the Lord's help in a personal way, and that through this challenge he will grow in faith, character, and dependence on Jesus. May the Lord comfort you as you entrust your son into His hands and give you peace as you continue to lift him up.
