Prayer for my son who is battling addictions

We lift up your son together before the throne of grace and we thank you for bringing his deep need before us so we can seek God's will together in Jesus' name. We hear the pain in your request, a son who is battling addictions and carrying the heavy wound of sexual abuse, and now his marriage is suffering as he cannot be intimate with his wife. Our hearts ache with you and we bring all of this to our Heavenly Father who sees, who knows, and who heals.

We want to gently remind you of the power of the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to God and it is only by His name that we are saved. You did not mention His name in your request, and we want to make sure this foundation is clear. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is by believing in Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are forgiven, made new, and given power to overcome sin and find healing. If your son does not yet know Jesus as Lord and Savior, we pray first and foremost that he would call upon Him.

We pray for your son's deliverance from addictions. The Word tells us Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18 and No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13. Addiction is a bondage but Christ came to set the captives free, and we pray that your son will experience that freedom. We pray he will walk in the truth that Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17. We rebuke the hold that addiction has on him and we pray for repentance, for accountability, for a turning away from every substance or behavior that dishonors God and harms his body which is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Or dont you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God. You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are Gods. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.

We also lift up the deep wound of sexual abuse. This is a terrible evil and trauma that leaves scars on the heart and mind, and we grieve that your son has endured it. Our God is a God of compassion who heals the brokenhearted. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3 and Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. We pray that God would bring deep inner healing to your son, that He would comfort him, renew his mind, and restore his understanding of intimacy as God designed it to be pure and good within marriage. We pray against shame, fear, anxiety and any lies the enemy has sown through that abuse.

And we pray for his marriage. Marriage is holy and ordained by God between a man and a woman, and intimacy within that covenant is a gift from God. Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled. Hebrews 13:4. We pray for your son and his wife together, that God would restore their union, that He would give them patience, grace and understanding for one another. We pray for the wife, that she would be strengthened and encouraged, that she would not grow weary in loving and supporting her husband while also guarding her own heart with wisdom. We encourage them to seek godly, biblical counsel together, perhaps with a trusted pastor or Christian counselor who can walk with them through trauma and addiction recovery, and to be surrounded by the body of Christ where they can confess and pray for one another. Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective. James 5:16. We pray they will pursue purity and faithfulness to one another, and that their intimacy will be restored in God's timing as healing comes.

We pray together now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You and lift up this precious son to You. Lord, You know his struggles with addiction, You know the pain of the abuse he suffered, and You know the strain on his marriage. We ask for Your mercy and Your delivering power. Break the chains of addiction in his life, Lord, and set him free. Wash him in the blood of Jesus and make him new. Heal the wounds in his heart and mind, comfort him as only You can, and renew him day by day. Restore, Father, what the enemy has tried to steal from his marriage. Give him and his wife unity, tenderness, forgiveness, and a renewed desire for one another that honors You. Teach them to love each other as Christ loves the church. Give this mother or father who is praying such peace and hope as they intercede, and help them to cast all their anxiety on You because You care for them. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. We ask all of this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus, our only hope. Amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray fervently, to encourage your son to remain in the Word daily, to seek fellowship and accountability in a Bible believing church, and to pursue professional Christian counseling for trauma and addiction if he is not already. God is faithful and He is able to restore. We stand with you believing for his complete healing and for a marriage that glorifies God.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We are praying with you for your son and for his wife, and for you as you carry this burden for them. It is painful to watch someone you love feel trapped by past wounds and by patterns he cannot seem to break, especially when it is affecting his marriage.

What you describe makes sense in a painful way. When someone has experienced sexual abuse, the hurt can reach far into adult life, into how safe and connected a person feels, and sometimes into struggles with addictive behaviors. Difficulty with intimacy in marriage often is not about lack of love, but about feeling unsafe in the deepest places. Healing in that area usually takes time, patience, and safe, steady support.

We are glad you brought this before the Lord, and we encourage you to keep inviting your son and his wife to get caring professional help alongside prayer. A licensed Christian counselor experienced with trauma and addictive patterns, and their pastor, can walk with them both individually and as a couple. If there are ongoing health concerns, a primary care doctor is also a good person to see. You do not have to carry this alone either, having one trusted person to pray with you can help.

Father, we lift this son to You, and his wife and his parent who loves them. Bring healing where there has been deep wounding, bring freedom where there has been bondage, and give wisdom to each step they take toward help. Surround this marriage with safety, grace and hope, and draw them closer to You and to each other. In Jesus' name, amen.

We lift your son before the throne of grace together with you, and we bear his burden with tender sympathy. To be wounded by the cruelty of abuse and then to be entangled by addiction is a sore affliction, and to see its shadow fall upon the holy covenant of marriage brings a double grief.

The Scripture teaches that marriage is not a mere contract but a union cemented by mutual love, wherein a man leaves father and mother and is joined unto his wife and they two become one flesh. This is a great mystery, says the apostle, for it speaks of Christ and the Church. Our Lord has betrothed His people to Himself as the Lamb who shed His blood to prove His love, and He will bring His own to the marriage supper of the Lamb. It is there we learn what true love and true oneness mean. Your son needs that same redeeming love to heal what has been broken and defiled.

We pray that he may know Christ as his Goel, his Kinsman Redeemer and Vindicator, who alone can cover the shame of past wrongs and break the power of sin. Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and in Him there is forgiveness and cleansing and new creation. We ask the Lord to deliver your son from the dominion of addiction, to heal the deep wounds left by abuse, and to wash his conscience in the blood of the Lamb so that he may no longer be held in bondage.

We pray also for his marriage, that God who ordained marriage between one man and one woman for life would restore what has been injured. Within that covenant alone has God placed the gift of intimacy, that husband and wife should be one in love and honour. We ask the Lord to renew affection and tenderness between your son and his wife, to give patience and understanding to them both, and to make their union a reflection of the love of Christ for His Church.

We ask that the Holy Spirit, who is promised to dwell with us and to be in us, may be known by your son in sacred intimacy. He dwells with us as a Friend in the house, and He will be in us as a continual and increasing power, never to leave the believer to himself. May the Spirit grant him continuance and increase, strength to turn from every snare, comfort in sorrow, and power to walk in purity.

We encourage your son to walk in the light, to confess his need to Christ daily, to seek the help of faithful pastors and wise counselors, and to cleave to the Word of God. And we encourage you and his wife to continue in steadfast prayer, looking to Him who is married unto His people and will not forsake those who trust Him.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Thy Son, the Lamb slain for sinners, have mercy upon this son. Deliver him, heal him, cleanse him, and dwell in him by Thy Spirit. Restore to him joy in Thee and wholeness in his marriage, that his home may know peace and Thy name may have glory. Amen.

We have heard your burden for your son and we join you in prayer for him and for his wife.

We pray that God in His mercy will bring deep healing from the wounds of sexual abuse and freedom from every addiction that has taken hold. We ask the Lord to purify his heart and renew his mind, to break the chains of past hurt and present bondage, and to restore him to wholeness through faith in Jesus Christ. As Scripture shows, those who turn to Christ in repentance and faith are not left as they were but are washed and made new, and we pray that your son will know that cleansing and transforming grace.

We also pray for his marriage, that God will restore intimacy as He designed it to be within the lifelong covenant of husband and wife, in love and purity and mutual care. We ask for patience and understanding between them, for open and honest communication, and for strength to seek wise and faithful counsel and accountability as they walk through this difficult season together.

May the Lord comfort you as you intercede for them, give you perseverance in prayer, and fill your son and his wife with hope, strength to resist temptation, and a growing desire for what is holy and good. We ask all this trusting in the grace and power of Jesus Christ alone to save, heal and restore. Amen.

Thank you for sharing this heavy burden for your son. Your love for him and for his marriage is evident, and it is right to bring this before the Lord. God sees the pain that sexual brokenness brings into a life and into a marriage, and He is not distant from it.

Scripture teaches that God Himself created sexual desire and made it strong and pleasurable for a purpose. He intended it to create a beautiful unity and deep intimacy between a husband and wife who have given their lives to each other in the lifelong covenant of marriage, a oneness where love can bear fruit. When that gift is perverted or misdirected, whether through abuse suffered, through exposure to pornography, or through giving in to sensual desires outside of God's design, it does not stay neutral. It tends to enslave a person. What was meant to unite and bless begins to bind and destroy what is most precious, including family and marriage. Many find themselves fettered by desires they cannot control, and the very intimacy God designed for marriage becomes difficult or even impossible.

There is hope, and that hope is centered in Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The Bible says that in the fullness of time God sent His Son, born of a woman and born under the law, to redeem those under the law so that we might receive adoption as sons. Jesus is the only begotten Son of the Father, full of grace and truth. We are not sons in that same unique way, but through faith in Him we are adopted into God's family, and God puts the Spirit of His Son into our hearts so we can cry out to Him as Father. That relationship between the Father and the Son shows us the depth of God's love. Just as Abraham was asked to offer his only son Isaac, whom he loved, God actually gave His only beloved Son for us. No one truly knows the Father except through the Son, and to honor the Son is to honor the Father. God's own testimony is clear, that He has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Whoever has the Son has life.

For your son, this means freedom is not found in trying harder under the law of the flesh, but in receiving the promise through Christ and walking by the Spirit. The Scripture contrasts the son of the flesh and the son of promise, the way of mere human effort and the way of God's grace. Your son needs that gracious work of adoption, forgiveness, and new life that only Jesus can give. God also corrects and trains those He receives as sons, as a father trains the son he delights in. That correction is not rejection, it is love that seeks to restore.

We will pray for your son that God would draw him to Jesus Christ for salvation and for deliverance, that the chains of addiction and the wounds of past sexual abuse would be broken by the power of the Holy Spirit, and that he would learn to walk in purity and in dependence on Christ. We pray for his wife as well, that God would give her grace, patience, and wisdom, and that God would heal and restore intimacy in their marriage according to His good design, in a way that is gentle, holy, and rooted in committed love. We also encourage him to seek consistent, biblically grounded help and accountability, to turn completely from any pornography or other fuel for lust, and to pursue fellowship with mature believers who can walk with him toward wholeness.

Let us pray. Father, we come to You in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ. You know this young man, his history, his struggles, and his present inability to be intimate with his wife. Have mercy on him. Forgive his sin, heal the wounds that have been done to him and that he has done, and break the bondage that holds him. Give him Your Spirit, make him Your adopted child through faith in Jesus, and teach him to live as a son. Restore what has been broken in his marriage, and make their union a place of healing, faithfulness, and true oneness as You intended. Give his mother and his wife strength to love, to pray, and to trust You while You work. We ask this because eternal life and true freedom are only in Your Son. Amen.
