Prayer for my obnoxious and horrible friend.

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Today, In the name of Jesus, I lift up my friend, who has been behaving in a regimented, judgmental and racist manner, that God will put a works that will destroy this will in him to judge people he doesn't even know based on their race and stereotype, in the name of Jesus. I also pray that God will turn his judgements rather onto his own behaviors, which are often unhealthy, and that God will break the sentiment of denial in him of his addictive nature and of the denial of the fact that his beliefs and way of living, which stems around his addiction, is both juvenile and stupid. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

We join you in lifting up your friend before the Lord, recognizing that his behavior is deeply rooted in sin—pride, judgmentalism, racism, and addiction—and we know that only God can transform a heart hardened by such things. You have rightly come before the Father in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Christ that we have access to the throne of grace and the power to see true change. As Scripture declares, *"There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"* (1 Timothy 2:5, WEB). Without Him, our prayers are empty, but in Him, we have boldness to intercede for even the most difficult souls.

The racism and stereotyping you describe are grievous sins before God, who created all people in His image. *"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus"* (Galatians 3:28, WEB). Your friend’s judgmental heart is in direct rebellion against the command to *"not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment"* (John 7:24, WEB). His racism is not just a personal flaw—it is an affront to the God who loves all people and desires all to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). We pray that the Lord would convict him deeply of this sin, that he would see the wickedness of his prejudice, and that he would repent before a holy God.

His addiction and denial are equally destructive, enslaving him to behaviors that dishonor God and harm his own soul. *"Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s Kingdom? Don’t be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortionists, will inherit God’s Kingdom"* (1 Corinthians 6:9-10, WEB). While we do not know the nature of his addiction, we know that any sinful stronghold is a form of idolatry—placing something above God—and it must be broken by the power of Christ. *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it"* (1 Corinthians 10:13, WEB). We pray that the Lord would shatter his denial, expose the futility of his sin, and lead him to true repentance.

Yet even as we pray for conviction, we also ask the Lord to grant him a spirit of humility. Your friend’s "regimented" and self-righteous attitude suggests a heart that trusts in his own wisdom rather than submitting to God’s. *"God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Be humble therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time"* (1 Peter 5:5-6, WEB). May the Lord humble him, not to destroy him, but to save him—so that he might see his need for Christ and turn from his wicked ways.

As you intercede for him, we encourage you to also examine your own heart. While your prayers for his conviction are righteous, we must ensure that our own attitudes are not rooted in bitterness or contempt. *"If a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to yourself so that you also aren’t tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ"* (Galatians 6:1-2, WEB). Even as we rebuke sin, we must do so with love, remembering that we too were once enemies of God before His grace reached us.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this friend who is bound by racism, judgment, addiction, and pride. Lord, You see his heart—hardened by sin, blinded by prejudice, and enslaved to destructive habits. We ask that You would break him, not to crush him, but to save him. Convict him deeply of his racism, for it is an abomination in Your sight. Expose the wickedness of his judgmental heart and lead him to repentance. Shatter his denial and reveal to him the emptiness of his addiction. Let him see the futility of his ways and turn to You in brokenness.

Father, we ask that You would turn his judgments inward, that he might see his own sin clearly and cry out for mercy. Soften his heart, Lord, and grant him a spirit of humility. Remove the scales from his eyes and let him see the truth of Your Word. Draw him to Yourself, that he might find freedom in Christ and walk in newness of life.

We also pray for our brother/sister who intercedes for him. Guard their heart from bitterness and fill them with Your love, that they might continue to pray with both boldness and compassion. Use them as an instrument of Your grace, speaking truth in love and pointing this friend to the cross.

We rebuke the spirits of racism, pride, addiction, and deception that have taken hold of this man’s life. By the authority of Jesus Christ, we command these strongholds to be broken. Let the light of Your truth flood his soul, and let the power of Your Spirit set him free.

May this friend come to know You, Lord Jesus, as his Savior and King. May he turn from his sins and walk in obedience to Your Word. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, who alone can save and transform. Amen.

We will continue to stand with you in prayer, trusting that the Lord is able to do what seems impossible. *"The things that are impossible with men are possible with God"* (Luke 18:27, WEB). Keep seeking the Lord on his behalf, and may you also be filled with the peace and hope that comes from knowing that our God is mighty to save. If there is an opportunity to speak truth into his life, do so with gentleness and reverence (1 Peter 3:15), always pointing him to the gospel. The greatest need he has is not just behavioral change, but a transformed heart through faith in Christ.

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

We want to thank you for allowing us the sacred opportunity to join you in lifting up your friend before the Lord. It is a privilege to stand alongside you in prayer, especially in such a difficult and heartfelt situation where the need for divine intervention is so clear. We have been interceding with you, asking God to soften this heart of stone and replace it with one of flesh—one that seeks humility, repentance, and the transformative love of Christ.

If you have seen even the smallest shift in his attitude, a moment of conviction, or an opening for you to speak truth into his life, we would love for you to share a praise report with us. Sometimes God works in ways that are subtle at first, and we want to celebrate every step of progress with you. Even if the change is not yet visible, we know that the Lord is at work in ways we cannot always see, breaking through strongholds and preparing the soil of his heart for redemption.

If this burden still weighs heavily on you and there has been no evident breakthrough, we encourage you to post an update so we can continue to lift this situation before the throne of grace. The battle for souls is ongoing, and we are committed to persisting in prayer with you, trusting that God’s timing and methods are perfect—even when they don’t align with our expectations.

Let us also remind you that while you are praying for your friend, we are praying for *you*—that God would guard your heart against bitterness, fill you with His peace, and give you wisdom in how to navigate this relationship. It is not easy to love someone who behaves in hurtful or destructive ways, but you are demonstrating Christlike love by bringing this before the Lord instead of writing him off.

May you be encouraged knowing that you are not alone in this. We are standing with you, believing that no heart is too hard for God to change and no life too broken for Him to restore. Keep seeking Him, keep trusting Him, and keep pointing your friend toward the truth—even if it’s through the quiet, persistent power of prayer.

In Jesus Name.

Please pray that God will soften my mother's heart towards me so she will let me stay in her home and not evict me, and speak to her about her refusal to forgive my father and let it go and about her unloving and sinful treatment of me.
