Believers must reject prolonged despair and embrace God’s comfort to honor Him and find true joy.
We have heard your request and we are lifting you up together before the throne of grace, asking our Heavenly Father to pour out His peace and comfort upon you in this difficult season. We thank you for sharing so honestly about the depression and anxiety and the heavy thoughts you have been carrying, and for telling us that you have been reading God's word and praying. That is a beautiful and faithful place to remain, even when the feelings do not quickly change, and the Lord sees your seeking heart.

The Lord is near to those who are hurting. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. And Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. You are not forgotten or unseen, and your struggle does not mean you have failed or that God is far from you. He invites you to cast your cares on Him. 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

We also hear that you have had really bad thoughts about your life and about what people think of you. We want to gently remind you that our worth and identity are not found in the opinions of others, but in what God says about us as His beloved children. Proverbs 29:25 says The fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe. When anxious and dark thoughts come, God calls us to renew our minds in His truth. 2 Corinthians 10:5 says bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and Philippians 4:8 encourages us to think on whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good report. Psalm 42:11 says Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God. For I shall still praise him for the saving help of his presence. Isaiah 41:10 says Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

We noticed your request speaks of God and prayer but does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and find true peace and salvation. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is in His name that we pray and find hope even in the darkest thoughts.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we lift this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You know the depth of the depression and anxiety and the painful thoughts that have been weighing so heavily. We ask that You would wrap Your loving arms around them and let them feel Your nearness. Quiet the storm of anxious thoughts and speak Your peace that surpasses all understanding over their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Help them to take every thought captive to Your truth and to remember that they are fearfully and wonderfully made and deeply loved by You. Renew their mind daily through Your word, remind them that their life has great value and purpose in You, and free them from the fear of what others think. Fill them with hope, strengthen them day by day, and guide them to godly community and support. Lead them to a trusted pastor, mature believers, and if needed a godly counselor or medical help, so they do not walk through this alone, for Galatians 6:2 calls us to Bear one another’s burdens. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our hope and our healer, amen.

We encourage you to continue steadfastly in reading Scripture and in prayer, even when it feels difficult, and to not walk in isolation. Reach out to a pastor or a mature Christian believer you trust and share what you are carrying, and stay connected in fellowship. If the bad thoughts ever become thoughts of harming yourself, please reach out immediately to someone you trust or to a pastor or counselor and let them walk with you closely. God has good plans for you and He desires to give you hope and a future as you keep seeking Him. We are continuing to pray for your mental health, for renewed peace, and for joy to be restored as you rest in Christ.

We appreciate you sharing so honestly how heavy things have felt lately. Feeling depressed and anxious, and carrying bad thoughts about your life and what others think of you, can be exhausting and lonely. Thank you for letting us know, and for continuing to seek the Lord in His Word and in prayer even when you are not sure what else to do.

What you are describing is something many people walk through, and it does not mean you have failed in your faith. Often stress, anxiety and low mood overlap and feed into each other, which is part of why it can feel so tangled and hard to sort out on your own. You do not have to carry this by yourself.

One steady next step alongside prayer and staying in the Word could be to talk with someone you trust soon, a pastor, a counselor, or your doctor, and let them know what you shared here. They can listen, help you sort through what you are experiencing, and walk with you in deciding what support would be most helpful. If those thoughts ever feel unsafe, please reach out right away to someone nearby.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus' name. You see the weight they are carrying and the thoughts that trouble them. Bring Your comfort and peace, give wisdom to each step they take, and surround them with caring people who will listen and help. Lead them day by day and remind them they are not alone. In Jesus' name, amen.

Uplifting you in prayer - may our Lord provide peace and comfort to you. May He ease your mind, taking away any anxiety, depression and bad thoughts.
Praying for you in the name of Jesus Christ.

Your honest request has been received with care and with much sympathy before the Lord, and you have done well to bring this burden into the light and to ask for prayer.

It is no small thing to feel as you describe, depressed and anxious, with bad thoughts pressing upon you and a fearfulness about what others think of you. The Scripture says, the heart knows its own bitterness, and each man dwells as it were in his own sphere where no other can fully enter. Others may not see the weight you carry, even when they sit close beside you, but the Lord sees and knows. He is not distant from your sorrow. He that was called the Man of sorrows was made up of sorrows as if they were constituent elements of His being, and He knows the variety of our woes, the sorrows of the soul that struggles and the sorrows of the soul that sits still and endures. You do not suffer unseen.

You write that you have been reading God's word a lot and praying, and for this we thank God. Continue in it. Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life. The chief concern of a man should be to see that his soul is right in the sight of God, and to walk in fellowship with Him. There was a man who never died because he walked with God, and if any would be delivered from dread and doubtful thoughts, he must pursue Enoch's path and pray for grace never to get out of fellowship with Christ. You cannot walk closely with Him and remain in bondage to fear.

The Lord says to His people, Fear not. Fear never helped you yet and it never will. Fear is weakening, it makes a man run at his own shadow, and the fear of man brings a snare. Many feet have been tripped by it. To be proud or to be crushed by what others think of us is both a folly and a sin for a child of God. What ought to please us is the real piety that is in the man, the grace of God that is in his soul. Let your faith overcome your fear, and remember that to fear man dishonors God, while to fear God with a holy and childlike awe is blessed.

You are therefore exhorted, Neither be you of a doubtful mind. When you are brought to a pass and know not what to do, the word to Israel at the Red Sea is the word to you now, Fear not, stand still and see the salvation of God. Jesus Himself says, Fear not. It is one of Satan's devices to make us afraid of Christ, but this Man receives sinners. He is great and good and He has chosen to become the Saviour of sinners, and you need not fear to approach Him. No case is hopeless while Jesus lives. Continue to pray and fear not.

In your reading and praying, add these helps which God often uses. Use the telescope very frequently, look often to the world to come and to the finished work of Christ, for the prepared man need have no fear. Bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and when bad thoughts arise, answer them with the word of promise rather than arguing with them in your own strength. Seek fellowship with one or two faithful believers, a pastor or mature Christian, and open your heart to them, for joint stock godliness will not serve, each must come into individual relation with Christ, yet God has given us the communion of saints to bear one another's burdens. Keep also the ordinary means of grace, regular sleep, labor, and honest duties, for the Lord cares for body and soul together. If heaviness remains, do not bear it alone, but seek wise and godly counsel soon, and do not hesitate to seek help from a pastor and, if needed, a trusted medical advisor, while you continue to look to the Lord as your chief physician.

We will pray for you.

O Lord our God, look upon this anxious and downcast soul. Thou knowest the bitterness of this heart as no other can know it. Thou art the Man of sorrows who was acquainted with grief, and Thou art now exalted to deliver. Grant peace to this troubled mind, and let perfect love cast out slavish fear. Help this dear soul to walk with Thee day by day, to keep fellowship with Christ, to stand still and see Thy salvation, and to play the man by faith overcoming fear. Keep the heart with all diligence, guard the thoughts, and let Thy word dwell richly within. Lift up the light of Thy countenance and give quietness, hope, and renewed strength. In Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Continue to seek Him, and let us know how you are kept, that we may continue to bear you up before the throne of grace.
