Prayer for my husband

Shinebright

Disciple of Prayer
Good afternoon in Jesus name I’m grateful to God for a new day. I am thankful for God‘s love, Grace and mercy and how he continues to keep my family and I. My prayers for my husband that his heart turns away from the things in this world, and he turns to Christ, his only true God in this life and able to guide him through this life. My prayer that my husband, no longer desires or crave alcohol and that he’s convicted by the Holy Spirit of how he has allow alcohol and the things of his families past background and confusion and bad habits to get in the way of his new life in Christ. My husband says he believes in the Lord, but I have been encouraging him that he cannot serve two masters through the word of God. So I pray that my husband no longer be slave to sin and alcoholism, and that he’ll be a slave to Christ Jesus. In Jesus name, Amen

We join you in giving thanks to God for a new day and for His love and grace and mercy that keeps you and your family, and we stand with you in prayer for your husband and your marriage which God has ordained as a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman.

We are encouraged by your discernment and your faithfulness to speak the truth in love to your husband, for you are right that no one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. Matthew 6:24. The Word also teaches us not to be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation, but to be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:18. When we continue in sin we become slaves to sin, yet we thank God that though we were slaves of sin, we became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which we were delivered and having been freed from sin we became slaves of righteousness. Romans 6:17-18. This is the new life in Christ you are longing for him to walk in, for if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17. We agree with you that the confusion and bad habits and patterns from his family background must no longer have dominion over him, for God has promised to give a new heart and to put a new spirit within us. Ezekiel 36:26.

We encourage you to continue to lift him up with steadfast prayer and with hope, knowing that the effective prayer of a righteous person can accomplish much. James 5:16. Continue to walk in love and respect as a godly wife, for in this way even husbands who do not fully obey the Word may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives. 1 Peter 3:1. Keep speaking the Word gently and keep placing him before the Lord rather than striving in your own strength, and encourage him to be in fellowship with other believing men, to be accountable, to be under sound biblical teaching and pastoral counsel, and to remove alcohol completely from his life and home so that temptation is cut off and the Holy Spirit has room to convict and to cleanse and to lead him into freedom, for if therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36.

We pray together with you now.

Father in heaven, we thank You for Your mercy that is new every morning and for the gift of marriage. We thank You for this wife who loves You and loves her husband and desires to see him walk fully with You. Lord we lift her husband before Your throne in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved and have access to You. We ask that You draw his heart away from the things of this world and from the craving for alcohol and cause him to turn wholly to Christ as his Lord and true God. Convict him by Your Holy Spirit, open his eyes to see how alcohol and the old patterns of his past have hindered his new life, and set him free from slavery to sin. Break every chain of alcoholism and confusion and bad habits, wash him and renew his mind by Your Word, fill him with Your Spirit, and make him a slave to righteousness and to Christ Jesus. Give him a new heart that desires holiness and give his wife strength and patience and wisdom to walk beside him in love and truth. Restore and strengthen this marriage for Your glory and let his life be a testimony of Your delivering power. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We are thankful you shared your heart for your husband. We hear both your gratitude for God's mercy to your family and the weight you carry as you watch someone you love feel torn between faith and alcohol.

It is a heavy place to stand, wanting him to know the freedom of belonging fully to Christ while seeing how tangled habits, family history and the pull of alcohol can be. We have learned that this struggle rarely comes from one thing alone, it touches body, mind, habits and heart, which is why lasting change often needs more than good intentions. It needs honest support, community and steady steps over time. That does not mean change is impossible, many have found a way forward with God's help and the right support around them.

You are already doing faithful work in praying and speaking truth with love. You do not have to carry this alone either. We encourage you to invite a trusted pastor or Christian counselor into what you are walking through, both for your husband and for your own strength and wisdom. If your husband is open, a Christ centered recovery group or a professional counselor who understands alcohol use can be a helpful next place to explore alongside prayer. If alcohol use is affecting health or safety, please encourage him to seek medical care promptly.

Father, we thank You for this wife's love and faithfulness. We ask You to draw her husband close to Yourself, soften his heart toward You and give him a growing desire for You above all else. Give him conviction and courage to turn from what harms him, and give her wisdom, peace and supportive people around her as she loves him well. Guide their family day by day. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Your prayer has been heard and we join our hearts with yours before the throne of grace, giving thanks with you for the new day and for the love and mercy which has kept you and your family. It is a good and right thing to bring your husband before the Lord, and to plead that he may be delivered not only from the guilt of sin but from the power and dominion of it.

Salvation is of the Lord. We cannot deliver ourselves, for long habit and strong drink and the confusion of former things grind the spirit and hold the soul as in a pit. But God has found a ransom. His own Son has borne the penalty, and where the Lamb was slain there is deliverance indeed. He brings forth His people with a mighty hand, and He makes that deliverance effectual by His grace.

We pray with you that your husband, who says he believes, may be brought to look unto Christ alone and be saved. The Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed. To believe on Him is to trust Him wholly, to leave the whole matter of present and eternal salvation in His hands with unquestioning confidence. A man cannot serve two masters. Our prayer is that the Holy Spirit will convict him deeply, that the craving for alcohol and the entanglements of past habits will lose their hold, and that he will turn from the things of this world to Christ his only true Lord, to be no longer a slave to sin but a willing servant of Jesus.

What a comprehensive word is salvation. It is deliverance from the guilt of sin, from the dominion of it, from the curse of it, and at last from the very being of it. The Lord Jesus is the inexhaustible well of salvation, and every form of fellowship with Him wrought in us by the Spirit is a well of living water. May your husband drink there and find his thirst quenched by something better than the cup which now ensnares him.

Continue to set the word of God before him with love and steadiness, and continue in prayer. The Lord hears the cry of those who seek Him. We ask that He will grant your husband repentance and faith, a new heart that desires Christ above all, and strength to walk in newness of life, to the glory of God and for the good of your home which He has joined together as one man and one woman in covenant.

We commend you both to Him whose honor is engaged to save the meanest of His sheep, and whose mercy still cries, Look unto me and be ye saved. May He grant you to see this deliverance wrought in His time, and may your household more and more be found rejoicing in the greater salvation which is by divine grace through faith in Christ Jesus.

Father, in the name of Jesus, grant this brother deliverance from the pit, break the chains of alcohol and sin, and make him whole in Christ, that he may live to thy praise. Amen.
