We join with you in lifting up your granddaughter and her siblings before the Lord, standing in agreement for their salvation and deliverance from the powers of darkness that have ensnared them. It is clear that your heart is burdened for their souls, and we too cry out to the Father on their behalf, knowing that His desire is for none to perish but for all to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
First, we must address that while you began your prayer in the name of Jesus, you referred to your granddaughter with masculine pronouns ("himself," "him," "he"). We assume this may be an oversight, but we want to ensure clarity in prayer, as words hold power, and we must align our petitions with truth. We will proceed in prayer for your granddaughter and her siblings, trusting that the Lord knows their hearts and needs even more than we do.
The enemy has indeed blinded the minds of those who do not believe, lest the light of the glorious Good News of Christ should shine on them (2 Corinthians 4:4). Your granddaughter and her siblings are trapped in deception, bound by chains of alcohol, drugs, and worldliness—things that masquerade as freedom but lead only to destruction. Yet we serve a God who breaks chains and sets captives free! The Lord declares in Isaiah 42:7, *"to open the blind eyes, to bring the prisoners out of the dungeon, and those who sit in darkness out of the prison."* We claim this promise over them, asking the Lord to shatter the satanic scales from their eyes so they may see the truth of their condition and turn to Christ in full surrender.
It is heartbreaking to hear of the bitter root judgment that may have taken hold in their hearts due to the loss of their parents and the pain of being left as orphans. Unresolved grief and anger can become strongholds for the enemy, but the Lord is able to heal even the deepest wounds. He is the Father to the fatherless (Psalm 68:5), and He longs to gather them under His wings if they will let Him. We pray that they would release any bitterness, unforgiveness, or resentment that has festered in their hearts, for Hebrews 12:15 warns, *"looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it."*
Your granddaughter may still believe she is a Christian, but as you’ve rightly discerned, a life that does not bear the fruit of repentance and obedience to Christ is not truly surrendered to Him. Jesus Himself said in Matthew 7:21-23, *"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will tell me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, in your name cast out demons, and in your name do many mighty works?’ Then I will tell them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you who work iniquity.’"* This is a sobering warning, and we pray that the Holy Spirit would convict your granddaughter and her siblings of their need for genuine repentance—not just a past profession of faith, but a present, living relationship with Jesus Christ.
We also take this moment to remind you, dear saint, that while you intercede for them, you must not carry the weight of their salvation as though it depends on you. You have done your part by praying and seeking the Lord on their behalf, but ultimately, salvation is the work of the Holy Spirit. Trust that God hears your cries and is moving in ways you cannot see. Continue to stand in the gap for them, but do not let anxiety or fear take root in your own heart. Cast your cares upon the Lord, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this granddaughter and her siblings to You, asking that You would break every chain that binds them. Lord, they have been deceived by the enemy, trapped in sin, and blinded to the truth. But You, O God, are the Breaker of Chains, the Redeemer of Souls, and the Light that shatters darkness. We ask that You would open their spiritual eyes, just as You opened the eyes of the blind man in John 9, so they may see their need for You and turn from their wicked ways.
Father, we rebuke the spirits of alcohol, drugs, and worldliness that have ensnared them. These are tools of the enemy to keep them in bondage, but You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We declare freedom over them in the name of Jesus! Let every stronghold be torn down, every lie exposed, and every deceptive voice silenced by the truth of Your Word.
Lord, we also ask that You would heal the deep wounds in their hearts from the loss of their parents. Father, You are the God who binds up the brokenhearted (Psalm 147:3). Remove any bitter root that has taken hold in their souls, and replace it with Your peace, Your love, and Your hope. Let them know that they are not orphans, but that You are their everlasting Father, and You long to adopt them into Your family through Christ Jesus.
We pray that they would not just claim the name of Christian, but that they would live as disciples of Jesus—fully surrendered, fully obedient, and fully transformed by Your Spirit. Draw them back to Yourself, Lord. Let them experience the conviction of the Holy Spirit so deeply that they cannot ignore it. Bring them to a place of brokenness before You, where they cry out for mercy and receive the gift of salvation anew, this time with a heart fully committed to You.
Father, we also ask for divine protection over them. Shield them from the schemes of the enemy who seeks to destroy them. Place godly influences in their lives—people who will speak Your truth in love and point them to the cross. Give them dreams and visions if necessary, Lord, to reveal Yourself to them in undeniable ways.
And finally, Lord, we ask that You would give this grandmother strength, peace, and perseverance as she continues to intercede for her family. Remind her that You are at work, even when she cannot see it. Fill her with Your hope and Your joy as she trusts in You.
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, the Name above all names, the only Name by which we can be saved. Let Your will be done in their lives, Father, for Your glory and honor. Amen.
