A Prayer for ### Heavenly Father, I come before You today with love and concern for ###. You know him fully, You formed him, and You love him more than I ever could. Lord, I lift him up to You now. Father, open his eyes to see the light of Your presence. Where the screen has become a distraction, a comfort, and a habit, I pray You would gently call him back to what is real and life-giving. Help him to see how much he is loved, needed, and missed in the present moment. Lord, I pray for freedom from this cell phone addiction. Loosen its grip on his mind, his time, and his heart. Give him the strength and self-control that comes from Your Holy Spirit to put the phone down, to set healthy boundaries, and to choose presence over distraction. Help him to find rest in You, not in endless scrolling. I pray You would draw him back into deeper connection - with You first, and then with the people who love him. Restore his joy in spending time with friends and family. Let him experience the peace of real conversation, laughter, and love without distraction. Heal any loneliness, anxiety, boredom, stress, or restlessness that may be driving him toward his phone. Father, heal all the surrounding struggles that contribute to this habit. Heal his mind, his habits, his heart, and his body. Where there is avoidance, bring courage. Where there is emptiness, fill him with Your purpose. Where there is restlessness, bring Your perfect peace. Make him whole, Lord. Lead him into a life of balance, clarity, and freedom in Christ. I trust You with him, because I know You are already working in him. In the mighty and loving name of Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen.

Multitudinous Thoughts and Sacred Comforts

The Strong One Driven Out by a Stronger One
We join you in lifting up this young man before the Lord with love and concern, and we thank you for bringing him before the throne of grace so faithfully. Your heart to see him free, present, and whole is a beautiful reflection of godly love, and we stand with you in asking God to bring healing and balance into his life.

We hear your burden for his cell phone addiction, and Scripture speaks clearly about stewarding our time and our minds for the glory of God. We are told to look carefully how we walk, not as unwise, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil Ephesians 5:15-16. We are also reminded that all things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of anything 1 Corinthians 6:12. When a habit, a screen, or any distraction begins to master us, it can become an idol that steals the time and affection that belongs to God and to the people He has placed in our lives. God calls us to set our minds on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth Colossians 3:2 and to think on whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report Philippians 4:8. Endless scrolling dulls the mind and steals peace, but God offers self-control as a fruit of His Spirit Galatians 5:22-23 and He has given us a spirit not of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7.

We also want to lovingly speak to the nature of your relationship as you called him your boyfriend. We believe courtship is for the purpose of discerning marriage to a fellow believer in Christ, and that marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman that honors God. We encourage you to view this time of courtship as a season to seek God's will for marriage, to pursue purity, and to build a Christ-centered foundation. Scripture calls us to flee sexual immorality 1 Corinthians 6:18 and to honor God with our bodies, for whatever we do, we are to do all to the glory of God 1 Corinthians 10:31. If there is any sexual intimacy outside of marriage in this courtship, we gently but firmly urge you both to repent and to turn from fornication, choosing to honor the Lord by keeping the marriage bed pure Hebrews 13:4. If this man is not a committed follower of Jesus Christ, we urge you to prayerfully consider whether this courtship is equally yoked as we are told not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers 2 Corinthians 6:14. A godly marriage that honors Christ must be your goal, not simply a dating relationship, and we pray you both are seeking the Lord together toward that end.

We are encouraged that you prayed in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we have access to the Father and it is only through Him we are saved and heard. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6.

We now pray together for him and for you.

Heavenly Father, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this young man to You. Lord, You know him intimately, You formed him and You love him perfectly. We ask You to open his eyes to Your presence and to draw his heart back to what is real and life-giving. Father, loosen the grip of this cell phone addiction on his mind, his time, and his heart. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit and grant him power, love, and self-control to set healthy boundaries, to put the phone down, and to choose presence over distraction. Teach him to find his rest in You, for You invite all who are weary to come to You and find rest Matthew 11:28. Heal any loneliness, anxiety, boredom, stress, or restlessness that drives him to the screen. Fill every empty place with Your purpose and let Your perfect peace guard his heart and mind Philippians 4:7. Restore his joy in fellowship with You first, and then with family and friends who love him. Bring courage where there is avoidance and wholeness where there is restlessness. Lead him into balance, clarity, and freedom in Christ. And Lord, we pray for this courtship, that it would be pure, wise, and centered on You. If it is Your will, lead them toward a godly marriage that glorifies You, and help them to honor You in body, mind, and spirit as they wait on Your perfect timing. We trust You are already working in him and we thank You for the freedom You promise. In the loving and mighty name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray, to speak the truth in love to him, and to encourage practical steps such as setting phone-free times, especially during fellowship and prayer, fasting from social media for a season, replacing scrolling with Scripture, prayer, and meaningful conversation, and seeking accountability from godly mentors or brothers in Christ. Trust the Lord to work in His timing, keep your own heart rooted in Christ, and continue to model the peace and presence you long to see in him.

Thank you for sharing this prayer with us. We can hear both your love for him and your longing for more real presence together, and we are joining you in bringing him before the Lord.

What you described is so common. Often the pull to the screen is not just about the phone itself but about what it seems to offer in the moment, a way to unwind, to quiet worry or boredom, to escape feeling restless. That is why trying to simply will it away rarely works for long. Real freedom usually grows as those underlying needs are gently addressed and healthier patterns are practiced over time.

One small step that often helps is to keep the focus on invitation rather than pressure. When you are both calm, not in the middle of scrolling, you might share how much you value undistracted time together and agree on one simple boundary you both keep, like phones put away during meals or during a walk. It protects connection without turning you into the monitor of his habits, which can quickly wear you down. Pay attention too to guarding your own time and peace as you love him well.

We are praying with you for clarity and steadiness as you walk this out.

Father, we lift him to You with thankfulness for his life. Draw him toward what restores him, quiet what drives him to escape, and give him growing strength to choose presence and balance. Give our friend wisdom, patience and peace as she loves him, and lead each of you closer to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer for this man has been heard and there is much in it that is right and good, a desire that he should be loosed from a habit which steals his time and dulls his heart, and that he should find his rest and joy in the living presence of Christ rather than in endless distraction.

We join you in praying for him, that the Lord who formed him and who alone can search the heart and try the reins would work in him a true deliverance. Apart from Christ we can do nothing, not even the least act of self control, for every grain of self strength is weakness until grace makes us strong. We pray that he would be brought to that self examination which every watchful Christian must practice, to cry with the Psalmist, Search me and know my heart, and to see how this screen has become a refuge for restlessness, loneliness, boredom or anxiety. Where there is avoidance may the Lord give courage, where there is emptiness may He fill with purpose, where there is restlessness may He grant His perfect peace. We ask that the Holy Spirit would grant him self distrust and faith in Christ together, that he would put away this habit, set healthy bounds, wash and mend his nets, and learn to choose presence over distraction, finding his comfort not in scrolling but in communion with the Saviour.

We pray also for you, that you may live near to God and know His presence which alone can purify and sanctify the heart. It is the presence of Jesus that blesses men, and when we have that presence our joy is restored in real fellowship, in honest conversation and in love without distraction. Seek first to be kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation, and to walk humbly before Him. Let self searching be your own practice also, for we are all prone to neglect our own vineyard while we keep the vineyards of others.

And because we love you and must speak the truth in love, we would gently remind you of what Scripture teaches concerning holy relationships. Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and He calls all who follow Him to walk in holiness. His design for intimacy is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman in marriage, and it is within that covenant alone that living together and the gift of physical intimacy belong. A boyfriend and girlfriend, however sincere their affection, are not yet husband and wife before God. We cannot ask God to bless as marriage what is not marriage, nor to affirm what lies outside His good order. Instead we pray that both of you would be drawn first to Christ Himself, that you would pursue purity, self denial and clarity, and that if it be His will you would be led in His time and in His way toward that holy covenant, or otherwise be led to walk separately in His will with a clean conscience.

So we commend you both to the Lord Jesus, who came to save sinners and who alone can make whole the mind, the habits, the heart and the body. May He loosen every chain, teach true self control by His Spirit, restore joy in fellowship with God and with those who love you, and lead you both into balance, freedom and holiness for His glory.

Heavenly Father, look upon this man and upon the one who prays for him. Convict of sin, reveal Thy Son as the only Saviour, grant repentance and faith, break the power of this distraction, and make each heart whole by Thy grace. Teach them to find rest in Christ, to set guards upon their time and affections, and to walk in the path of purity and truth according to Thy Word. Do this for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord, in whose name we pray, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
