Your prayer to keep your eyes on Jesus is a most needful and blessed prayer, and we do join with you in it before the throne of grace.
The Apostle urges us to run with diligence the heavenly race, looking unto Jesus, and therein is your safety and your strength. To look to Him is to live, and to continue looking to Him is to persevere. Our eyes are to be fixed not upon our own infirmities, nor upon the waves that toss about us, but upon Christ Himself, who is both the Author and the Finisher of our faith.
We pray for you that the Lord who has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. That good work is not yours to sustain alone. You are not only in His heart, but in His hands, and none shall pluck you out of His hand. The power as well as the affection of Christ shall preserve the people of God. When your eyes wander, His hand remains fast. When your feet are weary, His grace makes them like hinds feet to stand upon the high places.
We ask the Lord to keep you in that blessed perseverance in holiness of which the covenant of grace speaks, where He writes His law upon the heart and says, They shall not depart from Me. If grace has truly changed you, you are radically and lastingly changed, and He will not let you finally fall away. Even as Peter fell, yet he had not fallen away, for Jesus looked upon him, and soon he was running to the tomb to meet his risen Lord. So the Lord Jesus looks upon you still, and pleads for you, as He prayed that wonderful prayer in John seventeen, that you may be kept.
May the Lord grant you to abide in Christ, for the one way by which a soul is saved is by that soul abiding in Christ. May you feed daily upon Him, for His flesh is meat indeed and His blood is drink indeed, and let your soul delight itself in fatness as you listen diligently to Him. And may you know that though sin and Satan and the world would hinder you, the righteous shall hold on his way, not in his own strength, but by grace, because he has an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous.
Our prayer for you is this, that you may look to Jesus and live, look to Him and be kept, look to Him and be made to persevere to the end, till He shall say, Here am I and the children Thou hast given Me. May He keep your eyes fixed upon His cross where your sins were laid upon Him, and upon His exalted head from whom pardon and grace flow, and upon His coming glory which shall yet be revealed.
May the Lord answer you kindly and soon, for nothing pleases Christ like believing on His name, and he that by faith lays hold on Christ has laid hold on eternal life. Keep on believing that He can and will give you what you need, and you shall not be disappointed.
