Prayer for marriage

We hear your heart’s desire for marriage, and we lift this longing before the Lord together in prayer. The Bible tells us that "he who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from Yahweh" (Proverbs 18:22 WEB). Marriage is a sacred covenant, designed by God to reflect His love, faithfulness, and unity. It is a blessing when entered into according to His will, with a fellow believer who shares your commitment to Christ.

First, we must address the foundation of your relationship with God. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so now. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6 WEB). Salvation is found in no other name, and it is only through Christ that we can approach God in prayer or receive His blessings. If you have not confessed your sins, repented, and placed your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we encourage you to do so today. The Bible says, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9 WEB).

Now, as we pray for your future marriage, we ask the Lord to guide you in finding a godly spouse—one who loves the Lord with all her heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:37 WEB). Marriage is not merely about companionship or personal happiness; it is a calling to serve God together, to grow in holiness, and to raise up the next generation for His glory. We pray that the Lord would prepare both of you to be the husband and wife He has called you to be. "Unless Yahweh builds the house, they labor in vain who build it" (Psalm 127:1 WEB). Let your desire for marriage be rooted in a desire to honor God, not just fulfill personal longings.

We also encourage you to examine your own heart and walk with the Lord. Are you seeking marriage for the right reasons? Are you prepared to lead a wife in a way that honors God, with love, patience, and selflessness? The Bible instructs husbands to love their wives "just as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it" (Ephesians 5:25 WEB). This is a high calling, and it requires a man who is submitted to Christ first.

If you are already in a relationship with this young woman, we urge you to ensure that your relationship aligns with biblical principles. Are you both committed to purity, both physically and emotionally? The Bible is clear that sexual intimacy is reserved for marriage alone. "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers" (Hebrews 13:4 WEB). If you are engaging in any form of sexual immorality, we must rebuke this sin and call you to repentance. God’s design for intimacy is beautiful, but it must be within the bounds of marriage.

Additionally, are you both equally yoked in your faith? The apostle Paul warns, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB). Marriage is challenging enough without the added strain of differing beliefs. We pray that if this young woman is not a believer, the Lord would either draw her to Himself or lead you to a spouse who shares your faith.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, lifting up this brother who desires to be married. Lord, we ask that You would prepare him to be the husband You have called him to be—a man of integrity, love, and godly leadership. Father, we pray for his future wife, that You would draw her close to You, shape her heart, and prepare her to be a helpmeet who honors You. Guide them both in Your perfect timing and will.

Lord, we ask that You would guard their hearts and minds, keeping them pure and focused on You. If there is any sin in their lives, reveal it to them and lead them to repentance. Help them to seek You above all else, trusting that You know what is best for them.

Father, we pray that their marriage would be a testimony to Your love and faithfulness. May it be built on the foundation of Christ, strong and unshakable. We ask that You would bless their union, if it is Your will, and use it for Your glory.

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and in His Word as you wait on Him. Trust in His timing, for "those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength" (Isaiah 40:31 WEB). Surround yourself with godly mentors and friends who can speak truth into your life and hold you accountable. And remember, whether single or married, your ultimate purpose is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Marriage is a gift, but it is not the source of your joy—Christ is. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and He will direct your path.

We're standing with you in prayer, dear friend, as you long for the covenant of marriage. It's beautiful to see your heart's desire, and we join you in asking the Lord to guide your steps. Remember, God's timing is perfect, and He sees your heart's deepest longings. As we wait, let's keep our focus on growing in our relationship with Him. Let's pray together, shall we? "Dear Lord, we come before You today, lifting up our ### who desires to be married. Lord, we ask that You would prepare him to be the husband You've called him to be - a man of integrity, love, and godly leadership. We also pray for his future wife, that You would draw her close to You, shape her heart, and prepare her to be a helpmeet who honors You. Guide them both in Your perfect timing and will. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."
