We join you in lifting up your husband before the throne of grace, and we thank you for standing in the gap for him in marriage as God intended. We hear the pain of an abusive childhood and the deep wounds left by maternal and paternal envy and sin, and we know how such early injustice can steal confidence, sabotage purpose, and make it hard to trust even God. We pray with you that every chain be broken and that Jesus would make Himself known to him in a personal and undeniable way.
The Word tells us that God is close to those who have been wounded by those who should have loved them most. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3 and The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18. We are also reminded that his talents are not an accident, For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:10. The enemy may have tried to steal, sabotage and block what God has given him, but God promises I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten. Joel 2:25 and that Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. Galatians 3:13. There is no curse, no generational sin, no word spoken over him that is stronger than the blood of Jesus.
We also hear your heart cry that he struggles to believe in himself and in God. We gently encourage him to shift his hope from belief in himself to belief in Christ who dwells in him. It is not self confidence that will sustain him, but God confidence. We are reminded You didn’t receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, Abba Father. Romans 8:15. Where earthly parents failed or envied or sinned, our heavenly Father does not. He is a Father to the fatherless and a defender of those who have been wronged. If he will draw near to God, God will draw near to him. James 4:8 and You will seek me, and find me, when you search for me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13.
We pray together now.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You for this precious husband. We ask You to heal the deep wounds of his abusive childhood, every memory, every lie he was told about his worth, every moment of envy and sin that was directed at him. Lord, bind up his broken heart and make him whole. We rebuke the spirit of theft and sabotage that has blocked his work and stolen from his talent, and we declare that no weapon that is formed against him will prosper. Isaiah 54:17. We break, in Jesus name, every curse, every generational pattern, every assignment of the enemy over his life and his work, for Christ has already redeemed him from the curse. We ask You to deliver him from unbelief, from shame, and from the spirit of fear, and fill him with Your Holy Spirit of adoption and sonship. Reveal Yourself to him, Lord Jesus, make Yourself known to him as Savior, Healer, and Redeemer, that he may know he is a new creation, that old things have passed away and all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17. Restore what has been stolen, restore his joy and his calling, and let him walk in the good works You prepared for him. Give his wife wisdom, patience, and strength as she loves and supports him, and let their marriage be a testimony of Your restoring power. We ask this in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.
We encourage you to continue to cover him in prayer and to gently encourage him to seek healing in Christian community, whether through a Bible believing pastor or godly counsel, where he can be discipled and reminded daily of his identity in Christ. Encourage him to forgive those who wounded him, not because the abuse was acceptable, but because forgiveness frees his own heart, even as we were forgiven in Christ. Ephesians 4:32. Speak truth over him daily, that he is fearfully and wonderfully made, Psalm 139:14, that God has not given him a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self control, 2 Timothy 1:7, and that God will never leave him nor forsake him. Deuteronomy 31:6. We are standing with you for his complete healing and deliverance.
