Prayer for health

We join you in faith and agree with you that our Lord Jesus Christ bore our sicknesses and carried our diseases, and we rejoice that you are standing on His finished work for your health.

We love your confession of faith, for Scripture declares this truth so clearly. Isaiah 53:5 says, But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was on him; and with his stripes we are healed. And again 1 Peter 2:24 says, who his own self bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness; by whose stripes you were healed. We also cling to Psalm 103:3 which reminds us that He is the One who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases, and Exodus 15:26 where the Lord reveals Himself as Yahweh who heals you.

While Scripture does not give us the exact number of stripes laid upon Jesus, we know He was scourged and wounded for us, and that every wound He bore was for our complete redemption, spirit, soul, and body. We affirm with you that healing is provided through His suffering, and we continue to trust Him for its manifestation in your body according to His perfect will and timing.

We want to gently encourage you to keep placing your faith specifically in Jesus Christ, for it is only through His name that we have access to the Father and it is by His name that we are saved and healed. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 tells us, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is because you come in the name of Jesus that we can boldly bring your need for health before the throne of grace.

So together we pray for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Healer and our Redeemer. We thank You for the stripes that Jesus bore and for the blood He shed for our complete wholeness. We lift up our dear one to You and ask that You touch their body with Your healing power. We rebuke every sickness and disease and command it to leave in Jesus name, and we ask You to restore health, strength, and vitality according to Your mercy. Let Your healing virtue flow through every cell, tissue, and organ, and let Your peace guard their heart and mind as they trust in You. Help them to rest in Your promises and not waver in faith, knowing that You are faithful to Your word. We also pray that You grant wisdom to any physicians involved and guide every decision regarding their care. We thank You that You hear us and that Your will is for our good, and we trust You for complete healing in Your perfect time. We pray this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to continue to stand firm on the Word, to speak His promises over your body daily, to give thanks even as you wait for the full manifestation of your healing, and to remain in fellowship with other believers who can pray with you and for you as James 5:14-15 instructs. We also hold to 3 John 1:2, that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers, and we trust the Lord will strengthen you and uphold you as you walk by faith.

We hear your trust in the Lord and your desire for healing, and we are grateful you shared this with us. We want to stand with you in prayer and ask God to care for you in both body and spirit.

We know that walking through health concerns can be tiring, with hopeful moments and discouraging ones. It is good to keep bringing everything honestly to the Lord, resting in His love and nearness even as we wait on Him. He sees you, He hears your prayers, and His care for you does not waver.

Alongside prayer, we encourage you to stay in close touch with your doctor or care team about what you are experiencing, so you have trusted support for your physical needs as well. It can also help to let a pastor, family member or close friend walk with you in this season, praying with you and helping with practical needs when you need it.

We are lifting you up today.

Father, thank You for Your deep love for this one You have made and redeemed. We ask for Your comfort and strength day by day, for wisdom for those providing care, and for Your peace to rest on this heart. We place their health in Your good hands and ask for Your gracious will to be done. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Your confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ as the healer is well placed, for there is an abundance of healing power in Him and His salvation. It is written that He was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities, and with His stripes we are healed, and Matthew tells us that He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.

Yet let us remember what the Word most plainly teaches, that the worst sickness is the sickness caused by sin. There is no sickness so hard to bear as this spiritual malady, for it gives no rest to the soul. And it is this disease which Christ came chiefly to cure. Healing and pardon are placed in happy conjunction. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you. Pardon and healing were one. All spiritual disease receives its deathblow when sin is forgiven, for sin is crucified by the same Cross which brings atonement. The Word of God, applied by the Holy Spirit, is the means of healing sin sick souls, and that Word is Christ Himself whom God has sent for the healing of poor sinners.

You do well to look to His stripes, and I would tenderly commend even little faith, for little faith is still true faith. It is not the strength of your faith that saves and heals, but its object. Faith which begins and ends with Jesus is true faith, though it be but as a grain of mustard seed. The essence of faith lies not merely in knowing that Christ is strong to save, but in dropping down into His arms and trusting Him wholly. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God, so continue to hear the Gospel and believe that it comes from God, and to take what God gives in Christ.

The leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, which teaches us that the least thing about Christ is healing. On earth our Lord cured all sorts of sickness, there was not one disease which He did not heal, and He said to the disease, Go, and away it went. He does so still by His Word. We may therefore bring every bodily affliction to the Good Physician, believing that He is able, and asking according to His perfect will.

Let us pray together for you.

O Lord, Sun of Righteousness who has risen with healing in His wings, we thank You for the stripes which Your Son bore and for the complete forgiveness which is found in Him. We ask You to look upon this Your servant who is afflicted in body and to grant healing as it shall please Your wisdom and love. If it be Your will, speak the Word and restore health, that You may be praised. In the meantime, give peace to the soul, strengthen little faith, and let it be as a shield against the fiery darts of the enemy. Cause Your Word to be healing and comfort day by day, and keep this soul in everlasting health through Jesus Christ, in whom alone is salvation. Amen.
