Disciple of Prayer
I have just started seeing a christian counselor. I am seeing her so I can work through the childhood trauma I experienced as a little girl which includes sexual abuse. I want to draw close to God during this time of healing.

Midnight Exploration: Fourth Night
Behind the Counter
A Hard Life
We are deeply moved by your request and we thank you for sharing something so painful and personal with us. We praise God that you have taken this courageous step to work through the childhood trauma and sexual abuse you experienced as a little girl with a Christian counselor, and that your heart's desire is to draw close to God during this time of healing. What was done to you was evil and was not your fault, and our hearts grieve with you over the suffering you endured.

We want you to know that God sees you, He loves you deeply, and He is near to those who are hurting. The Lord does not overlook the wounds of the innocent and He desires to heal your broken heart. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. And Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Childhood sexual abuse is a grave sin against a child whom God created with dignity and worth, and though others may have harmed you, God will never harm you and He can bring restoration where there has been deep brokenness.

We are encouraged that you want to draw close to God in this season, for that is exactly where true healing is found. James 4:8 tells us Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. As you seek Him through prayer, through reading His Word, and through honest cries of your heart, He will meet you with His comfort and presence. Isaiah 41:10 reminds us Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. He is with you even in the difficult memories and emotions that counseling may bring to the surface.

We also notice that you shared your desire to draw close to God, and we want to gently encourage you to draw close through Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find true healing and salvation. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, for in Him you are made a new creation, deeply loved, forgiven, and held securely as a daughter of God.

We pray for you now.

Father in heaven, we lift up this precious daughter to You in the name of Jesus Christ. We thank You that You know her by name, that You saw every tear she shed as a little girl, and that You have collected her tears. Lord, we ask that You would surround her with Your perfect love that casts out fear. Heal her broken heart and bind up her wounds. Give wisdom and discernment to her Christian counselor, and make their time together fruitful for healing. Help her to draw near to You daily and to feel You drawing near to her. When memories feel overwhelming, be her refuge and strength, her ever-present help in trouble as Psalm 46:1 promises. Restore what the enemy meant for evil and use her healing for Your glory. Help her to see herself as You see her, cherished, clean, and whole in Christ, not defined by what was done to her but by who she is in Jesus. Give her peace that surpasses understanding, courage for each counseling session, and hope for the future, for You have plans to give her hope and a future. We ask all of this in the mighty and healing name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to continue faithfully with your Christian counselor and to stay rooted in Scripture, even when it is hard. Spend time in the Psalms, pour out your heart honestly to God in prayer, and lean on trusted mature believers who can support you. Healing from such deep trauma is often a journey, not an instant event, and God is patient and gentle with you in that process. Jeremiah 30:17 gives us this promise from the Lord, For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh. Hold fast to that promise. We are praying with you and for you as you walk this road toward wholeness in Christ.

We are grateful you shared this with us, and we honor the courage it takes to begin counseling after what you experienced as a little girl. Wanting to draw close to God right in the middle of this healing work is a tender and good desire, and we are praying for His nearness to you in this season.

Healing from early trauma is often a slow process more than a single event. It makes sense if trust feels fragile, if questions about your worth or about God as Father feel tender, or if your thoughts sometimes feel stuck in what you learned as a child to stay safe. That does not mean you are failing. Much of the growth happens gradually, even between sessions as you reflect and rest.

Since you have just started with your counselor, a steady next step is to let her guide the pace and to tell her how you hope your faith can be part of your care. If difficult memories or emotions surface between appointments, let her know right away so you have a plan together for those moments. It can also help to have one safe person, perhaps a pastor or mature friend, who knows you are in this process and can simply walk alongside you.

Father, we lift our sister to You in Jesus name. You see what she carried as a child and what she carries now. Draw near to her, give wisdom to her counselor, guard her heart and give her rest, and show her in quiet, steady ways that she is loved and kept by You. Lead her gently step by step. Amen.

Your desire to draw close to God as you seek healing from the deep wounds of childhood, including such grievous abuse, is precious in His sight and we thank you for sharing this burden so that we may pray with you.

We very speedily care for bodily diseases, but a broken heart is a greater ill, and the Lord has not left such hearts without a physician. Scripture says, He heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds. That healing is not a notion or a passing religious feeling, but a real saving work which God alone does. While He may graciously use instruments such as a faithful Christian counselor, the healing itself must come from His own hand, and we are encouraged that you are seeking help while looking above all to Him.

Be comforted that there is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation. The Word tells us the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. Not only His great fruit, but even His leaves, the gentlest touches of His grace, His Word, His presence, His promises, are full of healing virtue. These healing leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. When the Lord comes and dwells with His people, the Sun of Righteousness rises with healing in His wings, and healing and forgiveness are placed in happy conjunction. In Christ, pardon and healing are one, for He bore our sicknesses and our sins at Calvary, which is the place for the healing balm.

We pray that as Christ teaches you through His Word, the healing power so conspicuously present when He was teaching will be present with you. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God, and the Lord has begun a healing work which His grace will carry on till you are made whole. Healing must come before serving, and He who took Peter's wife's mother by the hand and lifted her up will take you by the hand in this season. He sees what was done to you as a little girl, He knows the trauma that has followed, and He draws near to the wounded with compassion, not with condemnation.

Our prayer for you is that the great Conduit Head from whom abundant streams of healing flow down to those below would pour His grace upon you day by day, that you would know pardon through Jesus Christ alone and the quiet, deep healing that flows from it, that the Lord would give wisdom to your counselor, guard your heart as painful memories are revisited, and draw you ever closer to Himself through prayer and the Scriptures, till you find rest in His pardoning and healing hand. May the Lord bless you and keep you, and cause you to rejoice in His unfailing love as He binds up what has been broken.
