Prayer for healing

Disciple of Prayer
My husband has CKD that has just gotten worse every time we go into see the doctor, I would truly appreciate prayers for healing for his kidneys to stable or even to improve so that he won’t need dialysis or a transplant. I don’t have very many people who would pray for us so I thought we would try here. Thank you.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your husband and his battle with chronic kidney disease. The weight of watching a loved one suffer is profound, and we stand with you in faith, believing in God’s power to heal and restore. The Bible tells us in Jeremiah 30:17, "For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds," says Yahweh. We hold fast to this promise, trusting that the Great Physician hears our cries and is able to bring stability and even improvement to his condition.

Father God, we ask You to touch his kidneys with Your healing hand. Strengthen them, Lord, and reverse the damage that has been done. We declare that by the stripes of Jesus, he is healed (Isaiah 53:5), and we stand on Your Word that says, "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up" (James 5:14-15). We pray this prayer of faith now, believing that You are moving on his behalf.

We also ask for wisdom and discernment for his doctors, that they would be guided by Your Spirit in their treatment plans. Provide comfort and peace to both of you as you walk this difficult path, reminding you that You are near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). We rebuke the spirit of fear and discouragement that may try to take hold, and we declare that hope in You will not put us to shame (Romans 5:5).

Lord, we know that healing comes in many forms, whether through miraculous restoration, medical intervention, or the grace to endure. Whatever Your will may be, we ask for the strength to trust You fully. Surround this family with Your love and provision, and let them feel the support of the body of Christ lifting them up in prayer.

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We hear the weight of what you’re carrying, and we’re grateful you reached out so we can join you in prayer right now. Watching your husband’s numbers worsen at each appointment is a heavy, lonely place to be, especially when you feel like you don’t have many people standing with you. Please know you aren’t alone in this. We’re lifting both of you before the Lord with you.

We’re asking God to bring genuine improvement to your husband’s kidneys, for stability where things have been declining, and for a path that avoids dialysis or a transplant if that is His will. We’re also praying for a steady peace to settle over you as you walk through this one day at a time, and for wisdom and clarity for his medical team.

Lord Jesus, we bring this husband to You right now. You know his body completely, every detail, every need. We ask in Your mercy for healing and restoration for his kidneys. Calm the fear that comes with each new test result, and surround this couple with Your presence and hope. Give them strength for today and glimpses of Your goodness even in the waiting. We trust them to Your loving hands. Amen.

Something simple you might consider: if there’s even one person in your life you trust, a neighbor, a friend from church or work, letting them know you could use a prayer partner sometimes helps that burden feel a little less solitary. But whatever you do, we’ll keep praying alongside you.

There grows no healing herb but the one plant of renown, Jesus Christ the Righteous. His leaves are for the healing of the nations, and the least fragment of His grace is charged with restoring virtue. Take your husband’s case directly to Him, for He is the one great Physician who lays His hand upon the sick and they are restored. There is abundance of healing power in Him, not only the full ripe fruit, but even the leaves, the little tokens of His presence, are medicine to every disease.

The Lord has been a Husband to you both. Does He not provide, commune faithfully, and set His special love upon His own? As a husband cares for his bride with all his worldly goods, so does the Lord care for you. In this trial, lean upon that covenant bond. A wife tenderly loves her husband and knows the ache when his body suffers; yet your Maker is your Husband, the Lord of Hosts is His name. Cry to Him as one who is wedded to Him by faith. He hears the sighing of His own bride. He will not neglect your cry. Look to the Cross where pardon and healing flow as one stream. Sin is the root of every bitter fruit, but at Calvary the axe is laid to that root. When sin is forgiven, the soul’s disease receives its deathblow, and the life of Christ works health throughout the whole being. First forgiveness, then healing. We are on our way to eternal health, and the seed of that perfect wholeness is already in every believer.

Do not hold the healing virtue at a distance through unbelief. The poor leper said, “Lord, if You will, You can make me clean,” and he felt the difficulty lay in the will of Christ, not in His power. So plead with Him: His power is boundless, His will is goodness itself. When Jesus was teaching, healing power was conspicuously present. Sit under the teaching of His Word, and may the Spirit apply it. Seek before all else the healing of the soul, for that is the first consideration, and then bodily mercies follow in their season. He is able to touch the hand of nature’s failing frame and lift it up; a contact is established through the Incarnation, there is healing in that blessed doctrine! Christ took our flesh to heal our flesh.

Yet remember, we often dread a relapse more than the primary disease. When the virus of our natural corruption or bodily weakness gathers renewed energy, the true battle must be fought. But the abiding power of Christ’s healing leaves keeps the soul in perpetual health, and His salvation will also perfectly heal our bodies, either by restoration here or by resurrection hereafter. If the disease has come, the Great Physician has come also. Do not be alarmed at the Cross when Christ comes with it. The Sun of Righteousness rises with healing in His wings; we shall not need to say, “I am sick,” because the Lord dwells with us and has begun to heal us. A man who is quite sure of perfect health tomorrow says little of the sickness of an hour, so fix your eyes on the golden age of eternal vigor that dawns for all the redeemed.

Cast yourselves both upon His faithful care. This is not a matter for careless hearing; take heed what you do with these promises. Do not merely thank the messenger and neglect the Remedy. Apply directly to Jesus. Come with your husband in prayer, lay hold of the hem of His garment, and plead the blood that pardons and the love that heals. He who forgives all your iniquities is He who heals all your diseases. Let your request be, “Lord, if You will, You can make him clean; speak the word, and Your servant shall be healed.” May the Lord answer you with strength and peace.
