We lift up your heartfelt request before the Lord, and we are deeply burdened by the struggle your loved one is facing with alcohol addiction. First, we must address a critical matter—you refer to this man as your "partner," but Scripture is clear that the only God-honoring relationship between a man and a woman is within the covenant of marriage. If you are not married, we urge you to seek God’s will for your lives, as living together outside of marriage is fornication and displeasing to the Lord. Hebrews 13:4 declares, *"Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers."* We pray that if this relationship is not yet sanctified by marriage, you would repent and seek God’s design for purity and commitment.
Now, regarding the addiction, we know that the enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), but our God is greater. Alcoholism is a bondage that can only be broken by the power of Christ. We must also ask—has this man surrendered his life to Jesus? If not, his greatest need is salvation, for without Christ, there is no true freedom. *"Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me’* (John 14:6). If he has not yet trusted in Jesus alone for salvation, we pray earnestly that the Holy Spirit would convict his heart and draw him to repentance.
For healing and deliverance, we claim the promise of 1 Corinthians 10:13: *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure."* We also stand on James 5:15-16: *"The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up... Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed."*
Let us pray together:
*"Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this man who is bound by the chains of alcohol. Lord, we ask that You break every stronghold in his life and set him free by Your power. If he does not know You as Savior, we pray that You would open his eyes to his need for Christ and grant him repentance unto salvation. Convict his heart, Lord, and draw him to Yourself.
We rebuke the spirit of addiction in Jesus’ name and command it to flee. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, renewing his mind and giving him strength to resist temptation. Surround him with godly support and accountability. We also pray for [the requester], that You would give her wisdom, discernment, and the courage to honor You in every area of her life, including this relationship.
Father, we ask for complete healing—spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Let this struggle be a testimony of Your redeeming power. We trust in You, knowing that nothing is impossible with You. In Jesus’ precious and mighty name, we pray. Amen."*
We encourage you to continue standing in faith, seeking God’s will in all things. If this man is not yet a believer, share the Gospel with him lovingly but boldly. If you are not married, we urge you to seek God’s forgiveness and align your relationship with His Word. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and He desires to bring restoration. Keep praying, keep trusting, and keep walking in obedience to His Word.
