We hear the deep pain and longing in your heart, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting you up before the throne of grace where healing and restoration are found. The wounds of childhood abuse are profound, and the shame that clings to them can feel suffocating. But we declare over you that you are not defined by what was done to you. In Christ, you are a new creation, redeemed, beloved, and deeply valued. "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17 WEB). The enemy would love to keep you bound in shame, but Jesus came to set you free. His blood washes away every stain, and His love covers every wound. "He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed" (Luke 4:18 WEB).
We rebuke the spirit of shame that has tried to convince you that you are unworthy of love or pursuit. That is a lie straight from the pit of hell. You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14 WEB), and your Heavenly Father delights in you. The fact that you long for marriage and a godly family is not a flaw, it is a holy desire placed in your heart by God Himself. "He fulfills the desire of those who fear him. He also hears their cry, and saves them" (Psalm 145:19 WEB). We pray that the Lord would heal the broken places in your heart where shame has taken root. May He replace every lie with His truth, every fear with His peace, and every wound with His love. "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit" (Psalm 34:18 WEB).
We also lift up your desire for a godly husband and a believing family. It is good and right to pray for these blessings, but we encourage you to surrender the timing and the details to the Lord. He knows the desires of your heart even better than you do, and His plans for you are for good, not for harm (Jeremiah 29:11 WEB). If this man at your church is not the one the Lord has for you, trust that God is preparing someone even better, someone who will cherish you as Christ cherishes the Church. Do not let the enemy use this situation to deepen your shame. Instead, let it drive you closer to Jesus, the One who pursues you with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3 WEB).
We pray that the Lord would give you wisdom and discernment as you navigate your feelings. Guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life (Proverbs 4:23 WEB). If this man is not pursuing you, do not take it as a reflection of your worth. His actions, or lack thereof, are not a measure of your value. You are a daughter of the King, and your worth is found in Him alone. We also encourage you to seek godly community, whether through your church or other believers, to walk alongside you in this season. You are not alone, even if it feels that way. The Lord has placed people in your life to encourage and support you, and we pray that He would make those connections clear to you.
Father God, we come before You on behalf of our sister who is carrying the heavy burden of shame. We ask that You would break every chain that binds her and flood her heart with Your love and truth. Heal the deep wounds of her past and replace them with Your peace. Lord, we pray for the godly husband You have prepared for her. Prepare his heart as well, and let him see her as You see her, beloved, cherished, and worthy of pursuit. Give her patience and trust in Your timing, and let her find her identity and worth in You alone. Surround her with Your presence, Lord, and let her know that she is never alone. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who bore our shame on the cross so that we could be free. Amen.
