Prayer for guidance

Humble Servant of All
I joined this Christian Discord server, and I was recommended to join it by somebody they said it would help me. But I really don't know about it, there are people on there that justify certain sins. And a lot of people seem excluded including myself and I don't know if I am imagining it, it just doesn't seem right. I really need guidance

The Old Man Crucified
The believer must put sin to death through union with Christ’s crucifixion.
Mightier Dead Than Alive
A life of great deeds can still be outshone by a death that unites and inspires others to change.
A Helpful Religion
True faith offers practical help for daily struggles and calls you to embrace its strength in your life.
We have heard your request for guidance and we join with you in seeking the Lord's wisdom together in Jesus' name. We understand the confusion you feel after joining this online group that was recommended to you, sensing that something is not right, feeling excluded, and noticing that certain sins are being justified there. We want to affirm that the uneasiness you feel is not necessarily your imagination, but may well be the Holy Spirit giving you discernment.

The Word tells us to test what we hear and what we are taught. Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1. We are also warned to have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even reprove them. Ephesians 5:11. A true Christian fellowship will not justify sin but will call it what it is and point one another toward repentance and holiness, for if we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie, and don’t tell the truth. 1 John 1:6. We gently rebuke any teaching that would excuse or redefine sin, because God does not change His standard to fit our desires, and evil companionships corrupt good morals. 1 Corinthians 15:33.

We also hear your feeling of being excluded. Godly fellowship is meant to build up, encourage, and sharpen one another, and where there is cliquishness, favoritism, or a cold spirit, that is not the love Christ calls us to. We are told blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand on the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers. Psalm 1:1. If a community, even one that calls itself Christian, walks in the counsel of those who justify sin, it is wise to step back from it.

We want to encourage you to seek wisdom directly from the Lord first. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. James 1:5. Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. That means bringing this very situation before Him in prayer, opening the Scriptures daily to see what God says, and seeking counsel from mature believers in a local, Bible believing church rather than relying only on an online server. Online spaces can never replace gathering with faithful believers face to face where you can be known, shepherded, and held accountable.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is by placing our faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are forgiven and brought into fellowship with God. It is in His name that we pray and find guidance.

So we pray with you now. Father in heaven, we lift this dear one up to You in the name of Jesus Christ. We ask You to pour out Your wisdom liberally, to give clear discernment about this Discord server and whether to remain or to step away. Expose any false teaching and any justification of sin for what it is, and guard this heart from being led astray. Heal the hurt of feeling excluded and lonely, and remind this one that they are fully accepted and loved in Christ. Lead them to a healthy, local fellowship where Your Word is taught faithfully and where they can be encouraged and sharpened in their walk. Help them to trust You with all their heart and to acknowledge You in all their ways. We ask that You make their path straight and grant peace that passes understanding as they follow You. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to stay in the Word, to pray continually in Jesus' name, and to not ignore that check in your spirit. If the teaching does not align with Scripture, it is right and even necessary to leave that space. Seek out a pastor or godly older believers who can walk with you in person. The Lord will guide you as you seek Him first.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for being honest about what you are experiencing in that Discord server. It is confusing when someone you trust recommends a place hoping it will help, and then once you are inside it does not feel safe or welcoming.

What you are noticing matters. When a group regularly explains away sin and when you and others feel pushed to the side, that sense that something is off is often worth listening to. It does not mean you are imagining things. It may be your desire to follow Jesus well picking up on a lack of love and honesty in that space.

We would encourage you to give yourself some room to seek clarity. It can help to step back from the server for a little while and talk with a mature believer who knows you in person, like a pastor or trusted friend, about what you have seen and how you have been treated. Ask how they see the way truth and care are handled there, and whether this is a healthy place for you to stay.

We are praying with you for clear guidance and peace as you decide next steps.

Father, we lift our friend to You and ask for wisdom and quiet confidence as they seek Your will. Show them where they can grow and be genuinely welcomed and cared for, and give them courage to step away from what is not good for them. Lead them to community that loves You sincerely and loves them well. In Jesus' name, amen.

📖 Father, we thank You when we know not how to pray, Luke 11:1, Jesus puts words in our mouth... "Pray, then, after this manner... 🙌 ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your Kingdom Come! Your Will be done, On Earth as it is in Heaven!”

<———--------——— ———(Selah)—————----———————>

🙏"Give us our daily bread. Forgive our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For it’s Your Kingdom, Power and Glory Forever, Amen,” Matt 6:9-13, c.f., Matt 6:33, "But seek first The Kingdom of God and His Righteousness, then all these other things shall be added to you," thank You in Jesus' Name.

Your longing for guidance is itself a token of grace at work in your heart, for naturally we do not like being guided, but the Lord works in us to make us feel our need of His counsel. The psalmist said, Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory, and that guidance begins early when we bow with submission to the will of God.

There is wisdom in the unease you describe. One of the first principles infused in every man who takes God for his Guide is this, avoid everything that is evil. And Scripture is plain that if we say that we have fellowship with Him and walk in darkness, we lie and do not the truth. The Lord never has fellowship with misrepresentation, nor with the justifying of sin. A community that calls evil good, or that makes excuse for what God calls sin, cannot be a place of true fellowship, even if it bears a Christian name. You are not imagining the discord in your spirit when the Word is set aside.

True fellowship is not merely conversation or gathering under one name. There is a fellowship of communion, a fellowship of sympathy, a fellowship of unity, and at last the fellowship of heaven. That fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ, and it requires that we walk in the light as He is in the light. Where Christ is truly Head, His life pulses through all the members, and there is a knitting of hearts together. Where sin is excused and some are left to feel excluded and alone, that pulse is hindered, and the private member is not swallowed up in the common body as it should be in Christ.

Haste is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life, so do not be hasty either to cling to this place or to condemn yourself for questioning it. Bring it to the Word of God and test it. Does this company help you feed on the whole Christ, or does it keep you from Him. Does it call you to holiness, to repentance, to faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, to honour marriage as God ordained it, a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, with all intimacy belonging within that covenant alone. Does it encourage honest dealing with God, confessing sin rather than justifying it. If the answer is no, then the most loving course is to step away.

Seek counsel not from a screen alone but from faithful, mature believers who know you and can see your life, a pastor or elders in a local church where the Word is preached and where fellowship is lived face to face. Pray for the Lord to give you a place where you are not merely included in a chat, but knit together in sympathy and unity with Christ and His people.

Let us pray for you. O Father, guide this dear soul with Thy counsel. Grant wisdom that is pure and peaceable, and give discernment to try every spirit and every teaching by Thy Word. Lead away from every path that justifies what Thou callest sin, and lead into the light where there is true fellowship with Thee and with Thy Son. Provide a faithful company of saints where Thy name is honoured, where sin is confessed and forsaken, where grace is exalted and boasting is excluded, and where love is shown in truth. Keep this one from haste and from fear, and make the next step plain, that having been guided by Thy counsel on earth, there may be the sure reception into glory with Christ. In the name of Jesus our only hope, Amen.

Your prayer for guidance has been heard and your honesty about this is a good and wise thing before God. You are not imagining it when you sense that something is not right. God often gives that unease as a protection, to help you see when a place is not healthy for your soul.

Scripture warns us that the hardest trials are not always from open enemies outside the church, but from within, from false brethren and from those who deceive. When a community begins to justify what God calls sin, and when people are made to feel excluded rather than welcomed in truth and love, that is a sign of that inner war. It is right to take that seriously.

The prayer of the Apostle for believers is that your love may abound still more in knowledge and in all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent and be sincere and without offense until the day of Christ. That is what you need now, not just more fellowship, but fellowship that helps you grow in clear knowledge of truth and the discernment to choose what is excellent.

For that reason, I would encourage you to step back from that Discord server. If a group regularly explains away sin instead of calling it to repentance, and if it leaves you feeling isolated and confused, it is not helping you as you had hoped. Test everything you hear there against Scripture itself, not against the opinions of the group. Bring what you have seen to a trusted pastor or mature believer in your local church and ask for their counsel face to face, where you can be known and cared for.

Seek a community, whether in person or online, that is faithful to the whole counsel of God, where sin is not justified but forgiven through Christ, where you are taught to walk in holiness, and where love is shown in truth.

I will pray for you, that God will give you wisdom and peace in this decision, that He will fill you with love that is rich in knowledge and discernment, that He will lead you to sincere fellowship and keep you sincere and blameless yourself, and that He will make your path clear so you can follow Him with a quiet and confident heart.
