Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing so honestly what you and your family are going through. The emptiness you describe, the sense of being distant from God and unable to pray, and the weariness from losses, financial pressure, health struggles and long unemployment is a heavy weight to carry. What you are feeling is real, and God sees it.
Scripture describes life lived only under the sun as empty and frustrating. It often moves in a painful cycle. A sense of failure or inferiority leads to trying to escape, then comes guilt, then a sense of punishment, then more frustration, and the cycle starts again. Many people try to break that cycle with excitement or pleasure, with entertainment, games, or images that promise relief but only leave the heart more empty. You mentioned boredom and turning to games and things that displease God. Those things do not satisfy. They deepen the emptiness and the guilt, and they keep the merry go round turning. God does not want you to stay on it. He wants to lift you off.
You also spoke of feeling unable to stop repeating certain sins and doing what you hate. The Bible is honest about this struggle. The law of God is holy and good, and it shows us what sin is. Once we know what is right, our fallen nature often does the very thing we do not want to do. By nature we are born with a bent toward sin, because sin entered the world through one man and spread to all. We cannot in our own strength simply try harder and succeed. The good news is that God has provided one way for forgiveness and freedom, and that is through His Son Jesus Christ. He was made sin for us though He knew no sin, so that we might be made righteous in Him. He died and rose again to break the power of sin and death.
The Holy Spirit comes to convict us of sin, not to crush us, but to point us to Jesus as the answer for sin. When He shows us our need, He is inviting us to turn to Christ in simple faith and to be born again. There is a new law at work for the believer, the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, which sets us free from the law of sin and death. It is not freedom by our own willpower, but by yielding to the Spirit and walking with Him day by day.
Jesus said to come to Him, all who labor and are heavy laden, and He will give rest. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Every person carries a burden. The heaviest burden is trying to make ourselves happy and to please ourselves. That never satisfies and it wears us down. God does not lay on you a burden so heavy that you cannot function or that drives you to despair. He does not want you to live pressed down and groaning under a crushing weight. He invites you to bring your weariness to Him, to learn from Him, and to find rest for your soul. What He asks is not heavy. It is to trust Jesus, to turn from sin, and to follow Him in the power of His Spirit.
For you and your family I am praying in the name of Jesus. I am asking God to draw you close again, to restore your desire to pray even when you feel empty, and to fill that emptiness with His presence. I am asking Him to break the cycle of repeated sin in your life, to give you strength to turn away from every ungodly door and to close it firmly, including the games and the images that displease Him, and to open only the doors He wants open for you. I am asking for His protection over your home from spiritual attack, for His healing touch on every health need, for His provision in your financial burdens, and for His guidance to the work or business He has planned for you. May He give you meaningful labor, purpose for your days, and grace to use your time for what honors Him.
If you have not already, tell the Lord plainly that you need His forgiveness through Jesus alone, that you turn from those unwanted things, and that you want to walk after the Spirit. Ask Him each morning for help for that day. When temptation comes, turn quickly to Him, to His Word, and to prayer, even a short prayer from an honest heart. He hears. He is faithful to forgive and to cleanse, and to lead you step by step into freedom.
May the Lord keep you and your family in His care, lift the heaviness you feel, renew your spiritual life, and show you His goodness in both spiritual and daily provision. May you know His peace, His healing, and His light yoke as you walk with Christ.
