Prayer for God to take me in my sleep

Thank you for sharing your heart so honestly and for trusting us with this deep pain. What you are feeling is heavy and real, and God sees the suffering that comes with being disabled and disfigured, and He sees the love you have for your family in wanting them to go on well.

I want you to hear something foundational about God. He wants to bless you, not because you have earned it or because you feel worthy, but because He is good. He delights to bless His people. When you look at yourself and wonder how God could bless someone in such pain, the answer is not found in you but in Him. His nature is to be with His people, to strengthen them, to help them and to bless them, and He has shown that desire again and again. You need His blessing, His presence and His help right now, and He is willing to give it.

Scripture says it is appointed for people once to die. Our lives are in His hands and the timing of our death belongs to Him. There is a story of a king who was told to set his house in order because he was going to die. He prayed and wept and asked the Lord to extend his life, and the Lord permitted fifteen more years. Yet in those added years many painful and wrong things happened that would not have happened otherwise. It leaves us wondering what would have been if he had simply trusted God's original timing. God sometimes permits what we insist on, but His best is to trust His timing and His will, even when we do not understand it.

Your desire to be free from pain and to not be a burden is understandable, but asking God to take you in your sleep is not the way He wants you to seek relief. A good desire still needs to be brought to God in God's way. Like David who wanted to do a right thing in bringing the ark back but tried to do it by copying a worldly method instead of God's way, we can want relief for the right reasons and still need to seek it as God directs. God does not want you to pursue death as a solution. He wants you to pour your heart out to Him, to give Him your pain, your weariness, your feelings about your body and your family, and to let Him carry it.

Your life has value that is not diminished by disability or disfigurement. You are made in His image and you are loved by Him. Your family also needs you in ways you may not see when pain is loud. God has placed you in their lives for a purpose that continues.

Please do not carry this alone. Pour it out to the Lord honestly in prayer, and also reach out right away to someone you trust, a family member, a pastor, a counselor or a medical caregiver, and let them know how deeply you are hurting and that you have been praying to die in your sleep. If thoughts of wanting to die become strong, please contact a trusted person or a crisis help line in your area immediately and stay with someone.

I am praying for you now, not that God would take you, but that He would draw near to you, lift the weight of pain, give you comfort and strength for each day, show you His goodness, and help you sense His presence with you. I pray He will give you hope through Jesus Christ, ease for your body and mind as He wills, and a renewed sense that you are deeply loved and not alone. I pray He will also strengthen your family and help you all to walk through this together with His grace.

You are cared for. Please keep reaching out and let others walk with you.
