Beloved of All
Your prayer for your family reflects a deep love and a desire to see God present and ruling in every part of your home, and that desire honors Him. It is right to bring your home, your minds, your bodies, your health, your relationships and your finances before the Lord and ask for His covering.
Scripture shows us that the answer to fear is remembering the Lord. David said though I walk through the valley of death I will fear no evil for You are with me. Fear grows when we forget who God is and that He is with us. When anxiety, confusion or dread rises, the cure is to turn our thoughts back to Him, to His greatness, His power and His nearness. That is why the psalmist asks his own soul why are you cast down and disquieted within me, and then directs his soul to hope in God.
The Bible also makes a clear distinction between two kinds of fear. One is the spirit of fear that the enemy uses to unsettle us. That kind of fear is an enemy of faith. Where fear is allowed to take over, faith is pushed out, and where faith and confidence in God are strong, fear cannot remain. They cannot live together. Nehemiah understood this when others tried to make him afraid so he would react out of panic. He refused to make a fear driven decision. So often when we move because we are afraid, we move in the wrong direction. God wants us to be wise and prudent in how we care for our families, but not motivated by panic about what the enemy might do. If God is our protector, He can keep us whether we are on the wall or in the house. Our confidence is not in a place or a formula but in Him.
The other kind of fear is the fear of the Lord, and this is entirely different. It is not a phobia or a shaking dread that God will harm you. It is reverent awe as we consider who He is, holy, loving, powerful and just. Proverbs says this reverence is the beginning of knowledge and wisdom. It is the starting place and the sum of true understanding. To fear the Lord is to love what He loves and to hate what He hates, to turn away from pride, arrogance and evil ways and to choose His path. When a family walks in that reverence, following what God says to do and turning from what He says not to do, relationships are built up and strengthened. What tears families apart is departing from His design. What builds them is honoring Him.
That reverence also brings rest to your other concerns. The Lord promises to be our confidence and to keep our feet from being caught when sudden fear or trouble comes. He is our helper, so we do not need to fear what people can do to us. If God is for us, who can be against us. He is a consuming fire in holiness, yet He is also merciful and near to those who trust in Jesus. Even the evil spirits fear and tremble before Jesus, for He has authority over all spiritual powers, over sickness and over the storms of life. He heals in different ways, sometimes instantly, sometimes gradually through the healing processes He Himself placed in our bodies, and sometimes by bringing healing to our minds and hearts, lifting guilt and restoring peace. All true healing is from Him.
So I join you in praying for God's order to be established in your home. May He guard your minds with His peace, your bodies with His strength, and your household with His presence. May He replace every spirit of fear, anxiety and confusion with faith, a sound mind and remembrance of His promises. May He bring health as you walk in reverence before Him and depart from evil, and may He give you wisdom to steward your relationships and finances in a way that honors Him, for we are taught to honor the Lord with what He has given us.
Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, we come to You through Jesus Christ alone, our only Savior. We ask You to cover this family with Your presence. Be their protector and their peace. Help them to remember You daily and to walk in reverent awe of You, hating what You hate and loving what You love. Uproot fear and anxiety and fill them with faith and confidence in You. Guard their health, their home and their relationships, and establish Your wise and loving order over every part of their lives. Give them discernment to act wisely and not from fear, trusting that You are with them wherever they are. Bring healing where there is sickness, clarity where there is confusion, and unity where there is strain. We ask this in the name of Jesus, who has all authority in heaven and on earth. Amen.
