Silas
Beloved of All
Your prayer for your family is heard and it reflects a heart that wants God at the center of your home. It is right to ask for His protection over your minds, bodies, relationships, health and finances, and to ask Him to guard you from both physical and spiritual harm.
Scripture shows that the cure for fear is remembering the Lord. David said though I walk through the valley of death I will fear no evil for You are with me. Fear grows when we forget who God is and what He has promised. That is why the psalmist asks his own soul why are you cast down and disquieted within me, and then directs his soul to hope in God. When fear is allowed to take over, faith departs, and when faith and confidence in God are strong, fear loses its hold. The two cannot rule the heart at the same time. The enemy often tries to use fear because fear pushes us to make wrong decisions and to react in ways we would not otherwise choose.
That does not mean we ignore wisdom. We are to do what is wise and prudent in caring for our families, but not out of panic or dread of what the enemy might do. If God is our protector, He can keep us wherever we are. Our confidence is not in a place to hide but in His presence with us.
The Bible also says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge. This is not a phobia that makes us cower in a corner. It is a reverent awe as we consider who God is in His greatness and power. To fear the Lord is to love what He loves and to hate what He hates, to turn away from evil, from pride and arrogance and perverse speech. That holy reverence is the starting place and the sum of true knowledge. When a family walks in that reverence, following what God says to do and turning from what He says not to do, relationships are built up and strengthened. What tears families apart is disregarding His ways.
God promises real protection to those who walk with Him. His truth is a shield and covering against the attacks of the enemy. Jesus Himself used the truth of God's word to answer every temptation. The psalm declares the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him and delivers them, and invites us to taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the one who trusts in Him, and those who fear Him lack no good thing. To live in fellowship with Him, in the secret place of the Most High, is to know His presence in trouble, His deliverance, His answers to prayer, and His salvation.
The fear of man brings a snare and can make even a wise person act foolishly, but whoever puts his trust in the Lord shall be safe. You do not need to be afraid of sudden fear or of the destruction that comes upon the wicked, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.
He also cares about your health. Scripture connects fearing the Lord and departing from evil with health to the body, and promises that to those who fear His name the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings. God does heal, sometimes instantly, sometimes gradually through the natural processes He Himself created in our bodies, and sometimes in our minds and hearts as He restores peace where there was anxiety and confusion. All true healing is from Him.
So I join you in prayer that God will strengthen your faith as you keep remembering Him, that He will replace fear, anxiety and confusion with trust in His presence, that His truth will be your shield each day, that His angels will encamp around your home, and that your family will grow in the reverent fear of the Lord which hates evil and loves His ways. May He establish His order and peace over your health, your relationships and your provision, and keep you in His care. In the name of Jesus, amen.
