Prayer for family

Bringing your family before the Lord for protection is a beautiful expression of love and faith, and God hears that kind of prayer.

Scripture teaches that the beginning of true knowledge and wisdom is reverence for the Lord. That word for beginning means not only the starting point but the sum total. All real understanding is wrapped up in learning to honor God with awe and respect. And to revere the Lord is to hate evil and to turn away from it. You cannot walk in reverence for God while holding on to what He calls evil. Wisdom hates pride, arrogance, and perverse speech, and chooses to depart from evil.

That reverence is also the place of safety for a family. The principles God has given for the home are not burdens, they are the very things that build up and strengthen family relationships, while the things He warns us not to do are the things that tear families apart. When we walk in that reverence, we walk with strong confidence, and that confidence extends to our children, who find a place of safety under His care. His promise is that the angel of the Lord encamps around those who revere Him and delivers them, and that revering Him and departing from evil brings wholeness and health.

Your prayer mentions fear, anxiety, confusion and sickness, and the desire for a wall of protection around your home, minds and bodies. Remembering the Lord is the cure for fear. When we forget Him, fear grows. When we remember Him, faith rises. Fear and faith cannot rule the heart at the same time. Where fear is allowed to take over, faith departs, and where faith and confidence in God are strong, fear must leave. David said that even though he walked through the valley of death, he would fear no evil because the Lord was with him. In the same way, because God is our refuge and strength and a very present help in trouble, we do not need to fear though everything around us is shaken.

Fear often pushes us to make wrong decisions, to react hastily or to hide. Trust does the opposite. The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever puts trust in the Lord will be safe. We do what is wise and prudent, not because we are driven by fear of the enemy, but because we are confident that God Himself is our guard. He can protect you on the wall and in the home, in body and mind, without you having to live in panic.

So I join you in prayer that God will set His protection around your home and over each mind and body in your family. May He in His authority break every assignment of the enemy and clear away what would bring harm, whether physical or spiritual. May He send His angels to watch over you as He has promised to those who revere Him. May He uproot fear, anxiety, confusion and sickness, and replace them with faith, peace, clarity and strength as you keep your hearts fixed on Him. May He establish His good order over your health as you reverence Him and turn from evil, over your relationships as you walk in His ways for the family, and over your finances as you honor Him with what He has given you. And may your household know day by day that the Lord is with you, so that fear is quieted and faith is strengthened in Jesus name, amen.
