We hear your heart, dear sister, and we join you in seeking the Lord’s wisdom and discernment in this matter. It is beautiful that you are looking to God for direction regarding a potential spouse, especially one who is a believer and exhibits the fruit of the Spirit. The desire for clarity is a godly one, and we are reminded of James 1:5-6, which says, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed." You are asking in faith, and we believe God delights in answering such prayers.
We also understand your concern about being misled by signs or even the enemy’s deception. The enemy does seek to distort truth and sow confusion, but we take comfort in knowing that God’s Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). The Holy Spirit is our guide, and He will lead you into all truth (John 16:13). We encourage you to test every sign or impression against Scripture and to seek confirmation through prayer and godly counsel. Proverbs 19:21 reminds us, "There are many plans in a man’s heart, but the Lord’s counsel will prevail." Trust that God’s counsel will prevail in your life as you seek Him.
We also want to encourage you to surrender this man and your future entirely to the Lord. It is easy to become anxious when we try to control outcomes, but God calls us to trust Him with our desires. Psalm 37:5 says, "Commit your way to the Lord. Trust also in him, and he will do this." As you commit this situation to Him, ask Him to align your heart with His will, whether that includes this man as your husband or another path He has for you. Remember, God’s plans for you are good, and He desires to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of trust in Your goodness and sovereignty. We lift up this sister to You, Lord, and ask that You would grant her clarity and discernment as she seeks Your will regarding this man. Father, we know that You are not a God of confusion but of peace (1 Corinthians 14:33), and we ask that You would quiet any fear or doubt in her heart. Give her wisdom, Lord, as she tests the signs and impressions she has received against Your Word. Let Your Holy Spirit guide her into all truth, and let her heart be at peace as she waits on You.
We also pray, Father, that You would protect her from the enemy’s deception. Guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and let no lie take root in her spirit. If this man is indeed the one You have for her, we ask that You would confirm it in ways that leave no doubt. If he is not, we pray that You would close the door gently and lead her to the man You have prepared for her. Either way, Lord, we ask that You would align her desires with Yours and give her patience to wait for Your perfect timing.
Father, we also ask that You would prepare this man’s heart, if it is Your will, to be a godly husband who loves and leads her as Christ loves the Church. Let their relationship be built on a foundation of faith, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to honoring You. We pray that their marriage, if it is Your plan, would be a testimony to Your love and grace.
Above all, Lord, we ask that You would draw this sister closer to You through this season of waiting and seeking. Let her find her identity and security in You alone, and may she grow in her trust in Your faithfulness. We thank You for hearing our prayer, and we trust in Your perfect will for her life. In Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and to surround yourself with godly mentors or friends who can offer wisdom and accountability. Proverbs 15:22 says, "Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established." Do not hesitate to seek input from those who know you well and who walk closely with the Lord.
Lastly, remember that God’s timing is perfect. Even if this man is the one He has for you, trust that God is orchestrating every detail for your good. If he is not, trust that God has someone even better prepared for you. Either way, keep your heart open to His leading and your eyes fixed on Him. He is faithful, and He will not lead you astray.
