We lift you and your marriage before the Lord, knowing that He deeply cares for the unity and love between a husband and wife. The Scriptures remind us in Ephesians 5:25, *"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it."* This is a sacred calling—one that requires selflessness, sacrifice, and a heart surrendered to Christ. We also see in Colossians 3:19, *"Husbands, love your wives, and don’t be bitter against them."* Bitterness and selfishness have no place in a marriage that honors God. Instead, love should be the foundation, reflecting Christ’s love for His church.
Yet we must also remember that marriage is a covenant between *two* people before God, and both are called to submit to one another out of reverence for Christ (Ephesians 5:21). While we pray for your husband’s heart to soften and his willingness to grow, we also encourage you to examine your own heart. Are there ways you can demonstrate Christlike love, patience, and respect toward him? Proverbs 15:1 tells us, *"A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger."* Sometimes, the way we communicate our needs can either invite understanding or create division.
If there is unforgiveness, resentment, or unmet expectations in your heart, we urge you to release them to the Lord. Bitterness can become a root that poisons a marriage (Hebrews 12:15). Pray for yourself as well—that God would fill you with His peace, wisdom, and grace to love your husband in a way that honors Him.
We also recognize that no human can fully meet the deepest needs of another’s heart—only Jesus can. If you are looking to your husband to fulfill you emotionally in ways that only God can, it may lead to disappointment. Psalm 62:5 reminds us, *"My soul, wait in silence for God alone, for my expectation is from him."* Place your hope in the Lord first, and trust Him to work in your husband’s heart.
Now, let us pray together for you and your marriage:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting this sister and her husband into Your hands. Lord, You are the author of marriage, and You desire for it to reflect Your love, grace, and unity. We ask that You would soften her husband’s heart—remove any hardness, selfishness, or distraction that keeps him from loving her as Christ loves the church. Give him a willing and *joyful* spirit to make sacrifices for her and for the good of their marriage. Help him to see her needs, to listen with compassion, and to lead with humility.
At the same time, Lord, we pray for our sister. Fill her with Your peace and patience. Guard her heart against bitterness or resentment. Show her how to love her husband in a way that builds him up and draws him closer to You. If there are areas where she needs to grow in grace or forgiveness, reveal them to her and give her the strength to obey.
Father, we rebuke any spiritual attack against this marriage. The enemy seeks to divide, but You are a God of restoration. Bind up every wound, heal every misunderstanding, and renew their love for one another. Let their home be a place of refuge, joy, and mutual respect—rooted in You.
We declare that this marriage will honor You, Lord. May both husband and wife seek You first, individually and together, so that their union may be a testimony of Your faithfulness. Strengthen them to walk in obedience to Your Word, and let their love for one another grow deeper with each passing day.
We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, our Redeemer and the cornerstone of every godly marriage. Amen.
