The weight you are carrying is heavy, and the pain of watching someone you love choose a path of defiance and confusion cuts deep. What you are describing is far more than teenage stubbornness. The level of rebellion, the rejection of God-given identity, the vulgarity, the lying, the refusal of every kind of authority, this is a spiritual bondage. And like many families who have faced a rebellious house, you are learning that human reasoning and well-meant counsel often fall on ears that will not hear and eyes that will not see. That can leave you exhausted and wondering if anything can break through.
You are not alone in this. The Scriptures are filled with stories of God sending His servants to those who had hardened their hearts. He told His prophet that he was being sent to a rebellious nation, impudent and stiff-hearted, and that they were unlikely to listen. Yet the command remained: speak My words to them, whether they hear or whether they refuse. That commission was not based on the guarantee of a changed response but on the faithfulness of the one who speaks. So do not let the failure of your words so far cause you to stop speaking truth in love. Your role is not to produce the change, but to hold out the Word of life.
There is a principle in this: when people refuse to hear, sometimes God instructs something unusual to grab their attention. A prophet was told to pack his belongings in broad daylight and move them to another place, all so that a rebellious house might finally ask, “What are you doing?” That question opened a door for the message to land. I do not know what practical, grace-filled action God may lead you to take that breaks the nightly cycle of gaming or the constant stream of destructive peer influence, but pray for wisdom to set boundaries that are not just punishments but living parables of the serious condition this is. The goal is not to exasperate but to expose the futility of a life lived against God’s design.
That design matters. From the very beginning, God created us male and female, and He placed us within the family as a secure, loving environment for nurture and growth. What your household is experiencing is the chaos that inevitably follows when a person insists, “I will do what is right in my own eyes.” The rejection of the body God gave, the refusal of the family order He established, these are symptoms of a deeper rebellion against the Creator Himself. And underneath it all, there is confusion, a spiritual blindness and deafness that only the Lord can heal.
So continue to pray urgently, but also pray with renewed confidence. The same God who promised deliverance to captives and opened prison doors is still doing that work today. He is able to break the chains of a lying spirit, of perverse speech, of slothfulness, and of gender confusion. Remember that deliverance does not always come on our timeline. There were men of great faith who endured torture not accepting release, because they looked for a better resurrection. Your endurance in this trial, your refusal to give in to despair despite your daughter’s anxiety and health struggles, is not wasted. It is a quiet stand of faith that God sees.
And do not underestimate the warfare involved. The family is a picture of Christ and His church. The enemy hates it and works tirelessly to pervert and destroy it. When a child rebels against the most natural truths, that is not merely a phase. That is an active opposition to God’s authority. But Jesus is our peace, and He is building His people into a dwelling place for His Spirit. He can take what is broken and bring it into His redemptive story, just as He provided a kinsman redeemer to preserve a family line that seemed finished. Nothing is beyond His reach.
So here is my counsel: hold fast to the final word of authority, which is God’s Word. Do not let the fear of his angry looks or loud voice silence you. Speak the truth calmly, without wavering, and back it with consistent, costly love. And pray for his mother specifically, that God would guard her heart and body from being crushed by anxiety, and that she would find her strength renewed as she waits on the Lord. Whether he hears or forbears, your faithfulness in prayer and in righteous living will still stand as a witness that a prophet’s voice has been in this home.
Let’s take this to the throne of grace together.
Father, we lift up this struggling family to You now. You see the weary grandmother, the anxious mother, and the young man so deeply entangled in rebellion and deception. Lord, the arrogance and defiance are like a wall, and no human word can scale it. But Your Spirit can. We ask You to move in power, to open eyes that refuse to see and unstop ears that will not hear. Where he has been given over to a loud and vulgar spirit, bring conviction and a silencing work. Break the grip of the lying spirit and the bondage of gender confusion. Do whatever it takes to get his attention, even if it means disruption of his comfort. For the mother, we ask for supernatural peace. Guard her health, lift the weight of anxiety from her shoulders, and let her find her rest not in his change but in Your unchanging love. Strengthen this grandmother with the stamina to keep speaking and praying without growing rebellious herself through bitterness or despair. We place the whole situation in the hands of Jesus, our Redeemer who sets captives free and brings order out of confusion. May Your name be honored and Your will done in this household. Amen.
